This is such a shame, it feels like Dead Space Remake did everything right and the franchsie still got shafted. If the remake ends up being a send off to the IP, at least it's a damn good one.

Just so you're aware, the idiot who spread this rumor has no idea what the hell he was even talking about
EA came out and said they never had a dead space 2 remake in development four days ago....
A live service game fails and loses millions of dollars they say let’s try again. A single player remake falls a little short of expectations. Well, let’s just shut down that entire franchise for good. EA is truly poison. Nothing is worse than giant corporations swallowing up talented developers, and ruining them. Some of the best remakes I played was FF 7, RE4 and dead space. EA is so shameful they should just sell the IP. Instead, they’re going to sit on it and let no one else have it.
Just like they're doing with Alice which pisses me off. American McGee offered to buy back the IP from them and they said no. I despise EA.
@@Kryptic1046 Omg Alice! Lol. I forgot all about that game. That was so memorable. Imagine a faithful remake of that game. God, I hate companies like EA.
...Or, they could have put these resources into just making the new DS game in the first place!
All this "we need to test it out first" marketing strategy is bs. Dead Space is a known IP, and they knew fans wanted a 4th. They were just being greedy, because they wanted to copy Capcom.
Now all they did was waste money.
No sympathy for EA, and no one to blame but themselves
@@The_Primary_Axiom - Yep. It's just like you said. "We're not gonna do jack sh!t with (insert franchise name), but we're not gonna let anyone else do anything with it either." I'm so glad they lost the exclusive Star Wars license, at least.
@@robchuk4136I strongly believe that with a little more marketing, the remake could have done much better. Sure it’s not a Triple A franchise , but it’s also not some obscure IP. There are games, spinoffs, books, merchandise, and animated films all about Dead Space
WHAT ? Man EA don't deserve Dead Space, the Remake was so great
So so much that company doesn't deserve 👍
Im not sure people caught the real bad news.....EA is making a Iron Man game.......what ever God you pray to, pray for mercy.
too bad no many people buy it
I still can't believe it, to me Dead Space was back and I was expecting an announcement for Dead Space 2 Remake this year, with a new take on the multiplayer maybe.
But no one bought it, so apparently..not so great.
The game literally *outsold* the original Deadspace!
Ea is just a greedy ass company as always!
It would have to outsell the original game, given how much more it costs to make a game than it used too.
@@wordenroger6188 the cost for a remake is a fraction of what it costs to make a new game. You have no clue what you're talking about, just rehashing what you've heard.
Lmao you don't know what your talking about if you think a game that came out in 2008 costs as much as a game made in 2023. There are hundreds of not thousands of more assets in the new game and all the original things had to be completely remade. This isn't just a small graphical update
Of course it would outsell the original game, Dead Space is less niche than it was when it first released.
@@NetherPrimeWow the projection. It is dangerous being so sure about something you don't fully understand. Do you understand inflation? Software fees? Do you think EA does not want exponential profit? Check your attitude we all love Dead Space here, but capitalism wants ever increasing money.
I still remember when EA thought Dead Space 3 would sell 5 million copies. Even without the problems it had, it was never going to hit that. EA thought other games at the time should also hit that. They've been making up arbitrary 'expectations' for over a decade.
Completely changing the direction of the franchise into exactly what it shouldn’t be and then expecting it to sell more than the first two games combined. Genius level IQ move by EA
They tried to turn DS into CoD and expected the same sale figures because that is how it works

Considering a live service game could absolutely hemorrhage money in the millions and they'd look at it and say "Hey it'll work next time" it's beyond infuriating a game that objectively sells well is seen as a failure for not hitting some arbitrary number.
EA certainly didn't do it for Anthem. In fact they made 3 single player games last year and all 3 failed financially.
@@gamerinatrance3618 Who cares, so many good SP & Coop games are coming out. Buy them at 80-90% discount in 4 years time.
By what metrics are you getting this? Granted yes, at least one or two out of those three suffered initial serious teething issues at launch (looking at Jedi: Survivor). But besides that, ever consider the fact EA either deliberately underreports sales to media outlets or artificially creates poor sales through other means (like their unreasonable, unrealistic and/or even downright fantastical sales goals) to continue to justify their "Live service games are the future!" bullshit?
Like... I do not believe for a second, that the Dead Space remake was a failure. Jedi: Fallen Order proved to EA that a well made single player game without live service mechanics like pay to win and gambling would be more financially successful than a half-baked live service game. So was Star Wars Squadrons. It just feels to me that they are looking for any and every excuse to make those games a fluke.
... What fuckin' expectations did they have?!
Probably it making 10 trillion dollars XD
Is it profits if is not in the billions??
That every single person have a copy
10 trillion billion jillion dollars! 🤪@Jacksontruman92
Funny how this was exactly how the franchise died the first time. Dead Space 3 fell short on EA's expectations.
EA considers every game that doesn't make a billion dollars in sales a failure, you can never win with these guys, they can never be satisfied.
Edit: Perhaps "Billion dollars" was an exaggeration on my part, but I think that it's still true that EA places too many unrealistic expectations on their single player games and then bury their franchises/studios when they don't get exactly what they want.
I agree, though this is false info by Yong being reported here. EA confirmed this is not true.
You can blame Activision for that perception.
@@CZJames20What is true, is that Dead Space 2 remake wasn't in development in the first place
Why are you exagerating. EA did not expect to make a billion $. The original also didn't sell that well, but this game sold particularly poorly considering the budget thrown at it. And while you think that isn't a problem, developers need to eat and the budget for this game was very large compared to its meager sales.
@@CZJames20Did you actually listen to the whole video. Also who can believe what you hear Corps report.
I went to buy Dead Space remake a few months ago and the store told me they had sold out!
A game from year ago was still selling out and they’re saying that sales didn’t do well?!
I imagine the amount of distributed physical copies is a lot less now than it was in the past.
@@gamerinatrance3618 No...they probably kept the physical numbers low to try to force digital sales. All AAA publishers are doing this.
WTF? EA must've had unrealistic expectations. The Deadspace series was never AAA level in popularity, but more AA. I guess if a game doesn't sell 10 million copies, it's a failure to EA.
Dude the reason DSR didn't meet "expectations" was because EA couldn't monetize it like DS3 or Battlefield, or Star Wars.
They do. It’s called the price of the game. If it doesn’t do as well as they hope they didn’t put it at the price they should have. Aka executives being dumbasses as usual.

The remake was pretty good the problem is that EA as a brand is tarnished
I’d say at least for me that’s why I didn’t buy it. I’m a big fan of Dead Space but I’m an even bigger fan of not giving EA my money.
Precisely. People don't want to further line EA's pockets
I figure it's because Dead Space is a genuinely horrifying game and does a very excellent job at creating a sense of dread and anxiety that is unparalleled to even the REmakes and that just is not mainstream enough in it's appeal. Horror games are kinda niche, like fighting games. You're really only appealing to a particular audience with them.
Just because a game is good doesn't mean it will sell. Look at Titanfall.
Yep, I have a hard "Don't give EA money" policy. It stopped me buying this game even though I loved DS1 and 2 originals. If I were to buy it, it'd be from a 2nd hand shop.
I’m not a fan of horror games myself but I can appreciate the work and talent that went into the remake. It looked gorgeous, was remade with love and attention to details, and managed to keep the same vibe and feel as the original while also making it somewhat new. Really hope they can get a chance to do the same to 2 and especially 3 (hopefully without the microtransactions).
As an enthusiast of Dead Space, there are definitely a lot of nuances that make up Dead Space's feel and atmosphere that the remake was lacking. It wasn't just plain better.

seeing news like this make me really grateful that Resident Evil is still an ongoing series sells millions and is not afraid to experiment for better or worse 😆
Resident Evil is the most popular survival horror franchise that's why it sells relatively better
So many people are quick to claim E.A. is being disingenuous, while ignoring the fact that they're doing the same thing by assuming the game sold well, with no actual proof.
Just because E.A. is a terrible company, doesn't mean everything they say is a lie. Even if the truth is upsetting.
GamersTM introspecting is like waiting for hell to freeze over
People asking for remakes but very few buy them.
Why would you remake the 2nd if the first one barely covered the cost of development.
EA is propably right for the first(and last) time.
The reason the sales fell short is because:
1) Their regular braindead customers didn't buy it.
2) There are people who hate having Origin in their PC enough to not buy the game just because of it.
3) There are people who just won't give money to the company anymore.
4) They know all of the above and try to make a pathetic point that single player games don't make them money.
5) There are people like me who didn't like all the bad and/or unnecessary changes they made and didn't buy it or returned their copy.
6) Some people just bought the original Deadspace or decided to play the original. I won't buy the remake til it's 10 dollars are less....it's a remake of an already good game.
Or the non-conspiracy reason....few people bought the game, because few people are into this genre. And just because a game got good "review scores", doesn't mean it will sell (see Alan Wake 2, a similar genre to Dead Space, with good reviews, but poor sales).
The pc version is broken. It has fps drops every 10 seconds. Cause be it denuvo or a blatantly bad port. Don't expect sales on a broken game on pc.
@@sophieedel6324 That's a problem with companies setting expectations too high and Capcom fell into the same hole once a long time ago, canceling Devil May Cry because they somehow expected DMC4 to sell like Call of Duty. Horror games tend to sell less in general for them most obvious of reasons: most people aren't into horror games. But by no means does that mean "stop making horror games", just don't dump all your eggs into one basket when making one. I'm sure there's a better saying I could use there, but whatever.
EA did a similar thing when American McGee pitched a new Alice Madness game called Alice Asylum. It has a design bible/layout very indepth and you can find it free on his patreon BUT EA not only refused the game but they are holding onto the IP cuz they don't see it as being profitable.
To thst i say, if it ain't profitable then let McGee pitch to another dang studio you mofos!!!
Funny you mentioned it cuz there was a Smiling Friends scene where a video game character is trying to get a new game, but the corpo CEO didn’t want to do anything like making a new game due to the retro era being “outdated”. One of the duo mentions if the CEO can at least give away the IP to another company, but the CEO brushed it off and mentions that the video game character can work as a cameo skin to “help boost profits”. Then when the duo took the video game character to have his game made elsewhere, the CEO made threats to hunt down the duo and claims that the video game character is his IP and he can do what he want with him, even leaving his game franchise in the corner collecting dust. That’s pretty much what EA will do with Dead Space next than just Alice Madness.
EA:“It’s my IP to sit on and do nothing with!”
I blame the consumers in this case. The game is amazing, got 10/10 reviews. Amazing sound design, it did not sell well like RE4. Marketing was also very good. For the people that like horror games and didn't buy it day one, this is a shame.
Classic EA move. This was gift wrapped for them with how miraculously good the remake was and how terrible Callisto was and yet they still failed to capitalize and chalked it up to "single player bad"
At this point you're better off playing the OG Dead Space on PS3 completely off the internet. Same for older titles.

I think people are blowing it out of proportion atm, we've kinda had false hope for DS2 for a while but we should've known it would be a bit before we get the game.
Also, DS2 was never in dev. Just so we're caught up.
@@mrjtfang2 I updated my comment.
@@troin3925 the vibe is real
It didn't "sell like hotcakes" at all. It sold somewhere between 1 and 2 million copies, EA is not disclosing how many. That might not sound horrible, but considering it had a large development and advertising budget, that is pretty poor.
@@sophieedel6324 Oh... ok.
I work at EA Motive, the dead space dev team hoped to work on a sequal, but the game undersold, (the target number were not even unreasonable) . And because the ratings were so high, it was determined that a deadspace game was simply not what most people are interested in.
True, most people are pussies afterall.
Jokes aside, DS2 probably would have been more action heavy with grander spectacle. Would have easily appealed to more of ‘these people’ and sold higher numbers than the scary original.
My two cents ofc
Aw man, well I hope they give you guys the chance to continue on it if they grow a few braincells for you pretty much helped bring back a awesome franchise
Wtf the game is literally their most selled game in the past five years what are they on about?
EA has this ridiculous mentality where they want to invest a couple thousand dollars and get back millions of dollars in returns.
Kinda like those yearly sports games. The make infinite amounts of money in exchange for some pocket change.
It’s warped EA mindset.
thats why the hardcore cod supporters and battlefield are equally to blame for buying huge amounts copies making EA believe its still as big as ever...
@@jackstraw4222 Hardcore COD and Battlefield Fan here. Didn't buy any of the Modern Warfare remakes, returned Black Ops 4 without ever playing it (even though it was a christmas gift from my mother) in exchange for two games that were leagues better, last ever COD game bought and played was Black Ops Cold War.
As for Battlefield, played Battlefield 3, both of the Bad Company titles, and Battlefield 1. Never purchased a new Battlefield title since, considering how bad they messed up Battlefield V (though their Pacific campaign and their The Last Tiger stories were the best in the entire game).
At least some of us are capable of critical thinking.
I had heard about this before, but also heard that this was merely a rumor and that they didn't necessarily shelve Dead Space again
EA just hates its player base.. even if it was over its expectations they would say its STILL don't meet its expectations
I've seen this happen with EA games so many times before that it's barely surprising at this point. Still hurts like hell, though.
I never believe it for a second. EA gonna be EA.
Everytime I think EA can’t disappoint me further they keep surprising me again and again
Well there ya go. People really did vote with their wallets.
Great to see, for sure.
Yup, all people care is to play Fortnite and watch streamers play games like dead space
@@AngelGel01 streamers are ruining games too. Especially horror games.
@@thegreatpoo2electricboogal318 bro so many people I know have the “nah I just watch a streamer play the game” mentality and then they cry cuz businessmen kill they fav franchises
I was out when they made a character look uglier and added an all genders bathroom
I feel the other half of the issue was that the gamers decided to go with TCP, and we know how that turned out
1-2 million not even that good if half the purchases waited for a price drop like so many people have were saying they would do at launch 🤷🏾
Random EA employee: “Looks like we have a hit! People loved the game!”
EA executives: “Kill the franchise, it isn’t generic enough”
I think you meant to write "Kill the franchise, it *isn't* generic enough". This is EA we're talking about here.
@@trutyatces8699 honest mistake, yeah. My bad
unfortunately due to how modern games are funded with taking massive bank loans, if a company makes 1 game that flops it puts a massive pressure on their other products (who they themselves are funded on massive bank loans) to try and make up the difference to pay off their debts, with immortals of Aveum a game that cost 125 million dollars to make, which flopped hard never even having a concurrent player count of over 800 players on steam, EA got caught in a tailspin, and while Dead Space might have made a profit, the time and resources for a sequel vs how much of a profit was made on the previous game it might not have been enough to justify a sequel with the banks banging on their door wanting their money back, that time and resources was relegated to more profitable venues
unfortunately thats the state of AAA right now due to all these mergers, one flop might not only kill one franchise but multiple others who profit margins aren't enough to subsidies the costs of the failure
More people need to talk about this stuff, this also effected Esports after the crypto crash. Then suddenly, Esports became an even larger loss leader than it was before.
If EA gave a bigger budget on the Marketing of Dead Space then they would've sold more becuase i didnt there was a remake until like 2-3 months after launch
The original Dead Space is just not old enough to warrant me purchasing the remake. And from what I've seen in videos and streams, it doesn't actually do everything right. Isaac talks, and I think that hampers the feeling of isolation the original had. There are more examples than that, too.
Also, even though Callisto protocol is a worse game than Dead Space, it was something new at least, and that was enough to warrant my purchase. And this is all with Dead Space 1 being one of my favorite games ever.
Weren't there articles and EA even disproving that they aren't canning Motive's Dead Space 2 remake?
Yes, Yong is reporting on this without sufficient info about it, thus spreading false info.
@@CZJames20Huh?
I really hope this is true 😭
As Yong mentioned, It wasn't that they cancelled Dead Space 2 remake development, but that they hadn't even started or considered it yet. Now this does mean it is entirely possible that EA and Motive will work on a Dead Space 2 remake at some point in the future, but there are currently no plans for it.
@@toddclawson3619 And the momentum was there right now so that doesn't bode well. But honestly I'm well past the point of caring. I have games like Elden Ring, Final Fantasy, Persona, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid 3 is getting a Remake. Dragons Dogma is back. I could go on. I really don't care anymore what stupid shit western developers are up to next. They simply lost the plot. Even when they do something good they do something bad a while later.
Well apparently there never were plans for a remake of Dead Space 2 to begin with. Instead they seem to focus on Battlefield and an Iron Man game.
People forget that all the old Dead Space games were also commercial failures at the time. Of course, if you remake a commercial failure and it's this true to form, you're going to get another commercial failure.
This is actually bad, while remakes are not always good, the problem here is that EA Execs will say that good games don't sell and then try to push live Service, low-quality, mismanaged games.
The reason why Dead Space Remake didn't make good sales is because,
- Time of release(a lot of people waited for and bought callisto)
- DRM they added for no reason
- EA App
- The Price of the remake, players would buy a different game even if it's bad versus a Remake(a game that people already played)
all of that besides EA's track record, Jedi Survivor ended up running like garbage, and EA adopted loot boxes and bad practices in their single-player games.
This is what I call EA paying for their transgressions.
Really is anyone surprised by this? EA is EA, the Grim Reaper of video games. Nothing's changed.
Your right like surely the mountain of bodies of studios and games left at their wake would be hard to miss. They got voted worst video company ever twice and caused that nuclear explosions of loot box storm in Star Wars battlefront as just two of the many and many skeletons in their closet.
I get the feeling that the Mass Effect ip is next
Fantastic Game and sold pretty well, all things considered.
EA: Nah, capitalizing on that would make sense, Mobile Games and Loot Boxes is where the future's at.
WTF is the games industry.
It didn’t make a return on investment at all, so it wasn’t profitable. Streaming culture is killing horror games because people would rather watch it than play it.
"WTF is with the games industry?" Well.....AAA publishers are expecting infinite profits from them, and the "best" way for them are Mobile Games and Loot Boxes. When you make a game in a way that requires the constant purchase of Loot Boxes and Microtransactions....BOOM.....Infinite profits. That's what's wrong.
Every day i wait for EA to make a smart decision
I will keep waiting until the end of all things.
EA doesn't do this often, but they did say this rumor to be a lie regarding Dewd Space 2 Remakem
God i never hated a company more than EA. Wish dead space was given to a company that would take care of it more like capcom or something
It's really is the smiling friend joke of the gaming CEO not letting Gwimbly make his independent game because it was he's IP to sit on and do nothing with it
@@jubal6654 EXACTLY they probably thought of EA when they made that joke
Capcom? Are we just gonna ignore their history on the bad stuff they did for several years?
Or the fact that they don’t seem to care much about the megaman franchise.
@@gabrieltejada1697 compare to EA they are saints
@@gabrieltejada1697 they are redeeming themselves a lot these past years Dmc 5, monster hunter, resident evil and street fighting are all getting a lot of support and love compared to how they used to be. And it seems like the focus they have now is just making fun games which a lot of companies are forgetting to do. You can think about the bad stuff but you can’t ignore the good stuff they’ve done. Hell they even gave their employees a raise because of how good the company is doing now
Dead Space remake did not hit all the right notes, at all, imo. The potential was there but it went the sensationalized route. What I mean by that...
- bigger focus on in-your-face jump-scares, also prevalent in new sound design (aliens constantly scream like drunken sailors, even when sneaking up from behind);
- dumbed down characters, like the new talkative and constantly blabbering Isaac, and especially Hammond - in the remake he's turned into Three Stooges and wins the deserved Darwin award;
- or just completely changed/ruined characters like Nicole, even Kendra is a completely different person.
I realize that remake means a complete overhaul, but I don't agree with changing the source material this much. The deep and dark atmosphere is almost completely gone in the remake. And for those new directional reasons I could care less if they shut down this franchise, again. Third game already was garbage juice enough to nuke it from orbit, along with EA.
What do people expect, AAA game to make is expensive, with 2mil copies you won't get positive 0 in sense of investment and return
EA is sure to learn the wrong lessons from this as usual. Why didn't I buy Deadspace?
- The first game still holds up well. A remake wasn't really essential at this point
- Many of the new improvements require a graphics card better than what I have. Nvidia hasn't come out with a compelling midranged option since 10 series and AMD is too power inefficient and doesn't have the RT chops yet
- First game is playable in 3D on my monitor. Only way to play the new one in 3D would be using UEVR injector, which is even more demanding and a lot more hacky. Would also mean VR HMD display only, no 3D monitor output.
- Stuttering was supposedly never fixed.
With more time, I'm sure DS1Remake will gain more sales
The Dead Space Remake was better than the OG, not from a development or writing standpoint, but from the context of continuity. Historically, Isaac Clarke never spoke a damn word until DS2, and the remake corrects that. It also rectifies the continuity error with how the jetpacking and zero gravity maneuvering worked between the OG DS and DS2.
That said though DS2Remake probably won't be needed for some time. A remaster, more likely. A DS3 remake would be welcome though, to correct the issues that held it back.
Why won't they stop being evil... 😢
You dont understand, they are just playing along the rules.
That's so sad, I was so looking forward to a Dead Space 2 remake... I wonder if the sales would be higher without Streamers.... A few people bought the game, millions just watched.
I wouldn't have faulted the decision even if it had been made. AAA games have become too expensive to make. It only makes sense that if the projections had shown that there wouldn't be enough sales to justify the huge cost of developing a new game based on sales of the remake then the obvious decision would be to can it.
i don't know i feel like a year ago yong was more current with his stories i have heard this already on the 11. yeah its only 4 days after i heard about it but last year i felt like he was much more quicker with the news. i don't know if this channel is less a priority or i am just more informed now.
Godammit
I enjoyed it a lot.
But doesn’t this again just shows what we have seen so many times..
Fans yell and cry about wanting something. And when it’s out they don’t support the developers but wait until it’s in a bargain bin.
I think this blatantly shows what Dead Space as a franchise really is. It’s a niche game/community where only that small amount of people in the entire “gamer ecosystem” (in the grand scheme of things) really enjoyed it and the masses really didn’t. I remember even when it originally came out, it wasn’t as popular as the heavy hitters at the time (like your CODs and what not) and it really only had more of cult following.
