Shit hurts man. I bought 2 copies of dead space. Once day 1 on ps5 and then again on my steam deck. I never played battlefield but I’m definitely not starting now.
The story has no validity because they never planned a DS2 remake, the devs moved on already. They talked about a new title in the franchise but that didn't go anywhere.

Honestly I saw this as a very real possibility when Motive announced they were working on an Iron Man game. I already knew that EA were going to want them to focus heavily on an Iron Man game since superhero games will always sell more than horror games because of mass appeal, but hearing that they are working on Battlefield instead now breaks my heart. Dead Space has once again been made a dead franchise by EA execs and shareholders.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if their "sales expectations" were numbers they knew it would never reach. You cannot put a game like dead space on the shelf for as long as they did and fart out a remake of the first one (a damn good one on par with the resident evil remakes) and expect a total blockbuster. The remake did amazing considering it had to essentially revitalize the dead space community while also bringing in new people, people who never heard of DS or played the first one just got the opportunity to be introduced with modern graphics and gameplay and are ALREADY shafted by EA. A community that already felt shafted by them after DS3 just had their worst suspicions realized, even if there is a DS2 remake I doubt it would do well now after hearing this I wouldn't buy in considering how back and forth they are on what stays and what gets put on the back burner for a decade or more

This really sucks. I never got around to trying any of the original trilogy but I just got a hold of the remake. The game was fantastic, don't know how I passed this up before because horror is one of my go to genres.
That is pretty much for a lot of publishers, but the shitty thing is that sometimes they set ridiculous targets like they did with Dead Space 3 when they made it action oriented to sell more, and ended up selling less because guess what, you made it action oriented. Or others who wanted to sell god knows how many copies, but ended up with 5 mill. Some modern games sold 2 million and considered huge success, so I don't know what their criteria is exactly, but they want to make a billion dollars on a game that costs pennies, that is the only explanation I can think of for this stupid mentality

They also priced it at $70, and yet also put it on EA Play/Gamepass for dirt cheap (I got it on that for PS5 and PC, purely for Dead Space, but I won't count towards sales figures I guess?) and yet expected it to sell like hotcakes. If they invested so much into the production of DS1 and don't think it was worthy of the investment, surely remaking DS2 would help to recoup costs rather than costing them more? Since so much of the groundwork has already been done? Mechanics, AI, lighting systems, movements, UI etc. Dev time would be substantially quicker I imagine and way less money/time would need to be spent. Also the OG DS2 sold more than DS1 anyway so there's that too.

After a solid time with Jedi Survivor then Dead Space remake i was really hoping that with Ubisoft going downhill every year EA would suddenly not be that bad. But then they cancelled the Mandalorian Game by Respawn and did this to Dead Space 2. I feel robbed of both and I can't believe they are doing this shit after flopping almost everything that they put out for a while. We didn't have a good Battlefield game since BF1. A way out a game for 2 players was amazing and ever since nothing came into the skulls of the mf upstairs at EA. For past what ever long we only have them fail after fail and when they succeed they cut off the good parts. Respawn is chained to Apex cause those macro transactions (we gotta start calling them for what they are they aren't micro for many years now) of that game are giving EA money, which is very likely one of the reasons Mandalorian Game got cancelled. Battlefront 2 had it's life support cut right as the game got into the best state it's ever been. Dice slowly became a joke with what they did to Battlefield. And now after they already did this many years ago when Titanfall 2 came out between BF and CoD. Dead Space Remake came out few weeks from Resident Evil 4 remake. Making some players choose instead of playing both. And they wonder why it didn't make money at the first week and this first week made them pull this shit. Probably because they chase immediate profits and not long-term investments nowadays, if I had to guess. Battlefield games get absolutely trashed in the modern day but still sell well-enough and come bundled with battle passes, skins, and unlocks people pay for, so the money made in MTX makes up the windfall. They can't sell a battle pass or a season operator bundle in a Dead Space game, so the lower sales means they'll have to spend years funding an entirely new one to get more profits, and they don't want to do that.
I like the idea that they put all the Dead Space assets for sale on the Unreal Engine store. It would require no effort or investment from the devs, especially if they're sure they aren't going to be needing them any time soon, and would result in an immediate cash influx. Happy fans. Happy dev studio.
To give some further context. EA apparently has stated that the rumours of DS2's development before being cancelled are not true. Which either means, its damage control, it hasn't begun development yet or a DS2 remake isn’t even on the cards. This being said though, cause its EA, still be skeptical imo.
Well, I did my part by buying the game early on. Tbh I think the DS1 remake is quite overrated but i would have been up for a sequel, sure. I’m really disappointed that nobody sees the problems with the remake but hey ho.
It’s not overrated, it’s a great game. Yes the performances can be flat at times and some of the characters are downgraded but it’s not bad at all. It’s worthy of the praise unlike callisto protocol

I’d say the main reason the DS1 remake “underperformed” is that it came out before the RE4 remake and Jedi survivor which are much more hyped games

I like the idea that they put all the Dead Space assets for sale on the Unreal Engine store. It would require no effort or investment from the devs, especially if they're sure they aren't going to be needing them any time soon, and would result in an immediate cash influx. Happy fans. Happy dev studio.

To give some further context. EA apparently has stated that the rumours of DS2's development before being cancelled are not true.
Which either means, its damage control, it hasn't begun development yet or a DS2 remake isn’t even on the cards.
This being said though, cause its EA, still be skeptical imo.
Well, I did my part by buying the game early on.
Tbh I think the DS1 remake is quite overrated but i would have been up for a sequel, sure.
I’m really disappointed that nobody sees the problems with the remake but hey ho.

It’s not overrated, it’s a great game. Yes the performances can be flat at times and some of the characters are downgraded but it’s not bad at all. It’s worthy of the praise unlike callisto protocol

You’ve left off the other problems, which are more important.
That stuff - you can guess - means for me it just doesn’t really cross the line. It’s ok.
But it fundamentally doesn’t meet let alone exceed the original. I wish it did, because the graphics are great (mostly) and the various quality of life improvements are good. Making the environment one continuous space and all that.

The remake just doesn’t have the juice, sorry. And I’m surprised and disappointed by that. I’m surprised they got such core things wrong.

If they ever do consider doing a remake for 2, I’d prefer if the studio who worked on the remake not inject their subtle political jargon in it. Other than that, the remake was sufficient for what it was. Unfortunately, it’s tied to the worst gaming company imaginable.

It hasn't been shelved. EA is bringing Motive to work on the next Battlefield because they need everyone who knows the Frostbite engine.
This point doesn't make it any better. Rather than working on another great remake. Motive is working on whatever battlefield slop comes next.

Dead space 2 remake was never in development so you're just talking ragebait shit. I hate EA as much as the next guy but I'm excited to see what Motive can do with Battlefield considering their success with squadrons and DS1 remake in proving they understand what makes an IP "tick"

Motive are not making Battlefield though, they are just providing support to DICE (much like Battlefront 2 where they did the starfighter modes, ironically another fantastic game killed off for a mediocre Battlefield game that flopped badly) along with a bunch of other studios.
How successful was Squadrons? That’s even more niche than Dead Space, and from my standpoint it doesn’t seem like it became a successful cult classic.
RE5 sucks, it really could use a remake.
