Madeira: Stunning 110Km East to West Trek

In May 2024, we trekked and camped our way east to west across the island of Madeira in Portugal. We followed some of the most famous and picturesque routes, and climbed to the highest point, Pico Ruivo. We were treated to glorious conditions as we traversed the at times challenging terrain. This ranged from semi-desert; rugged mountains resplendent in spring flowers; endangered Laurisilva; and lush sub-tropical rainforest.
