  • The Laugavegur Trail is a 55km route that traverses the volcanic highlands of Iceland, a landscape so unusual and otherworldly, it could almost be extra-terrestrial. Featuring volcanic fumaroles, multi-coloured rhyolite mountains, glaciers, black sand deserts, lava fields, rushing rivers, glaciers and birch forest, this popular trail regularly features on lists of the finest walking routes in the world.

      Thanks, Adrian. Yes, those rivers were sure cold, and the last one was deep and fast flowing, hence me wading it in my knickers, lol!!!

    Sharron & Martin, what a stunning landscape to walk through. The variety of terrain was brilliantly captured and the contrasts of light were beautiful throughout, especially with the snow. Stunning time lapses - loved the cloud moving in opposite directions at different heights. The campsites looked pretty cool (hopefully with few flying and biting insects). That river gorge looked pretty spectacular. The only thing missing was footage of Martin doing a river crossing ;-)

      Hi Gerry, thanks for commenting. Yes, this trek was certainly one of the most fascinating landscapes we have ever travelled through. Very varied scenery and terrain. There are no biting insects in Iceland, unlike Greenland, which was a relief! LOL! You got to see me in my drawers crossing the last river; that was bad enough, but you don't want to see Martin in his Y fronts, believe you me!!!!!

    • @EtherealLightPhotography
      @EtherealLightPhotography  Před 4 lety +1

      You don’t need a guide and the route is reasonably well signed but a map and compass or gps would be helpful if there is low cloud. You need to book the huts in advance or take a tent. You also have to carry food. Check out our blog on our website www.purplepeakadventures.com Regards martin and sharrron

    Hello thank you for sharing your journey ! What kind of tent would you recommend? 4 seasons? Thx again 🙏🏻

    • @EtherealLightPhotography
      @EtherealLightPhotography  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for your comment. The weather in Iceland in summer can be very variable. Heavy rain, sleet and high winds are not unknown. We used a terra nova superlite tent (no longer available) which is a 4 season tent. Recommend you have strong tent pegs and take a groundsheet to put under the tent to protect the tents floor as some of the tent pitches are in rocky/stoney areas. Try to get to camp sites early to get the best pitches. If camping can not use the indoor cooking facilities of the huts so you need to bring a stove. Crocs or similar footwear recommend when doing river crossings. Martin and sharron

    • @EtherealLightPhotography
      @EtherealLightPhotography  Před 3 lety

      Can't recommend a company as we did this on our own. It's not too difficult as the route is generally well sign posted but navigation skills would be needed in bad weather. You need to book the huts in advance or just turn up if camping. But campers don't have access to any hut facilities except the toilets and water.
