Great info here but an update: Reykjavik Excursions no longer offers a "Hiking Pass." It continues to offer daily bus transportation to and from Landmannalagur, Thorsmork and Skogar, but you must purchase separate tickets for each leg of the journey. TREX continues to offer a Hiking Pass option. Each carrier has significantly increased its pricing over the 2020 figures quoted in the video.
This video is extremely helpful. I just booked my trip to Iceland to hike this trail and found all the info on setting up my trip with the websites added in this video. Thanks !
Such diverse landscape, it looks like an amazing hike. I love the way you layout and present your vlogs too, informative but also captivating.
Thanks Stephanie, glad you enjoyed it
It was an absolute pleasure. Thank you for all the sharings Allan!
Came across your Japan videos while I was planning a Japan trip over the pandemic and love how relaxing, beautiful, and informative they are. I just got back from walking the nakahechi route of the Kumano Kodo solo and this one is looking amazing for the next trek abroad. Keep up the great work :)
Thanks so much for posting. I'm booked to do this later in the year and it will also be my first proper solo multiday hike so being able to see the terrain and how easy it is to navigate has really helped soothe my nerves.
Beautiful, beautiful documentary. So calm. Rewarding. So serene.
Amazing video and cinematography. You captured the beauty and dramatic landscapes of the Laugavegur hike. Watching your video brought back good memories.
Great guide Allan, detail and informative. Good to know that this was your first multiday solo hike too.
Allan, thank you for this video. I've been wanting to do this for years now and I've been waiting for a video like this to come out!
Sick video! I can hardly wait for the highlands to open up again next year. Your musical timing with your edits is great by the way, makes me a bit emotional while I watch some of your Iceland videos. Anyway, I look forward to learning about your next adventure!
Beautiful video with some great information on this iconic trek. Thanks for sharing Allan!
Fantastic hiking guide and great video! Your voice over and the beautiful scenes are a perfect combination. Looking forward to more!

Once again stunning video. I got to hike along with you and enjoy a place I’ve never been. TY!
Fantastic hike! I did it back in July 2018. Same day as the Ultra marathon. Great video! 👍
What a great video and so helpful for my preparation to do the trail! Very well done with some amazing shots.
I really love you travel videos. Learnt a lot from them. A very good reference video for me. Well done, Allan!
Great work Allan, outstanding video! Very informative from beginning to end which is just what I needed as I'm preparing myself for this hike. This also will be my first multi-day solo hike but I will be doing the trail in September. Also, cinematography was superior!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm excited for your trip - this is really an enjoyable hike.
Thank you so much for recording your adventure, experiences and advice!

Thanks for this amazing resource! Beautifully done. Hope to do this hike in august.
Thank you for sharing! I hope can go to Iceland again after all the corona situation.
Good stuff this. Calming shots and voice as well.
very well done video. Thank you. I am strongly thinking about this hike end of this summer. This made it seem like far less planning than I thought.. Thanks!
Thank you so much, amazing video and tips.... You ve inspired me to do it! Lots of helpful advice and suggestions 😊
So light, compact, informative, and scenic video! Thanks, Allan.
Planning to make Laugavegur & Fimmvörðuháls + some 1-days hikes at the beginning of September.
Already saw, that will have to hitchhike when returning back to Reykjavik. Praying for the same weather you had 🙂
Did you use the bus system there and back or did hitchhiking work well?
Another excellent video, Allan. Hope to do this trail in then ext year or two.🤩
interesting video Allan Su. I smashed that thumbs up on your video. Continue to keep up the high quality work.
Hey Allan, been a subscriber since your japan videos. Gotta say I love the solo hiking video, would love to see more solo videos. Always wanted to solo travel but don't have the guts to do so, anyway keep up the good videos. Love and peace

Great video!
Thanks for the info. I’m flying in to Reykjavik this week for 10 days of hiking 🥾
Good luck!
Great video. Have to admit really liked it without the commentary! The trail is on our list. We drove right round Iceland via Route One....in winter.
Great job!
Awesome video!
Brilliant video thsnks
Thanks, im thinking of doing this
Well done!
fantastic and thanks for info. I plan to do this next year around end of the season hopefully I don't encounter too many human along the way, lol.
Thank you really helpful
Very useful, thankyou
Great info and video ! Greetings !!!
about a half mile away from Emstrur camp site, is an AMAZING and huge canyon for the river Markarfljót, that you can explore. Our guide took us there after set up our tents and had some food. It was one of my favorite parts of the 4 days.
Dude, these shot are amazing
Thanks guys
nice!!
The best trip , The best place , I like the place.
I’m just reading Wild Silence where the author describes her experience on this trail. This video helps see the landscapes, even though I’ve hiked in volcanic terrain before. One of the people she meets recommends the socks from the Mountain Mall!
Backpack from HMG, but tent from aliexpress... didnt expect a combination like that. Great vid by the way.
Thanks! Yeah what works work
Nice hihing I'm hiking in Norway 😍😃👋🙋♂️👍🤗🖐
Great video and presentation👍👍!! Curious what one would do if bathroom break needed between campsites.
I always enjoy your guides, Allan. Yourself and Kraig Adams are my favorite CZcamsrs, so it was cool to see you do something similar.
I noticed you opted for a quilt for your sleep system. What quilt do you have and how did you find it for this trip? Was it drafty at all? Thanks!
I use the Cumulus 350 quilt. It’s a European brand and I’m liking it so far
There are definitely mom like landscapes. I WOULD SAY IT SEEMS A BIT DESOLATE IN SOME PARTS. You were brave Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
Great highlight video man, those drone shots are incredible…I’m curious what you shot then with…?
Absolutely the most informative video on the hike I've seen. To the point with no extra crap....loved it!
So it took you 2 nights and 3 days. I plan to continue on with the next section for some extra distance. Heck, I might as well since I'm flying all the way there. 😀
What time of the year were you there? I didn't look like you needed Microspikes or similar?
I'm glad to see there's some food along the way.
Thanks again.
Thanks John. This was in Mid-July and I do recommend micro spikes for the snowier sections near Hrafntinnusker
@@AllanSu Hi....I did the hike July 2021. Absolutely loved it. I did do the two trails. Great time!
Thanks for all the info.
Great thorough report of the trip, thanks! Big inspiration, I'm planning to go in the summer of '23! How did you manage you power-supply with your camera and drone? I have many many more questions for you, but this is #1. Thanks !
Hi Allen! 🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️
Would you say that the marathon hindered your experience?
Awesome video man! Will be doing this hike in july!
Would've preferred without it. But it wasn't too bad since it got empty again right before the river crossing towards Emstrur.
Great job as always! How/where did you recharge your camera/drone batteries?
No recharging. Just brought three batteries with me and picked my shots
great video Allan! wondering what pants u were using?
I use the Salomon Wayfarer Tapered pants
Great video! Was it ever unclear where to proceed while on the trail? I’m hiking alone in August and hope the trail is very well marked throughout.
Wow man thank you
Your backpack seemed small. ...you were able to pack your tent, sleeping bag, cooking gear etc in it???? What airlines did you use. I have flown in Iceland air before they charge a good bit for baggage. Thanks. Great Job.
Yes, I go pretty light weight. My camera gear is probably the bulk of the total weight. As for airlines, this time I went with Iceland air and my backpack was my carry-on.
@@AllanSu hi Allan ! So Trekking poles weren’t a problem to carry-on? Thanks 🙏🏻
Hi Allan thank you for this! I’m more Confident I can do this solo! You won a new subscriber. I did Everest Base Camp trek earlier this year . This is more beautiful and encompasses so much variation in scenery. Question: how do you get from airport to where the buses ? How far is that ? Maybe a taxi ? Thanks again , I’m planning to go mid- August 🙏🏻
You take the flybus from the airport to Reykjavik BSI bus terminal. This is where you take the bus to landmannalaugar. The trip is around 45-60 minutes
Wow, beautiful! Thank you for putting this out there. I'm curious, is this Trail part of a National Park or regional Park system?
I believe Landmannalauger is in a nature reserve. Not sure about the rest of the trail
@@AllanSu Hi, Allan! Thanks for responding..... I'm curious bc I'm planning a 2nd Trail Odyssey for Scandanavia, Great Britain & Europe and am wondering about each county's (National?) Park system... Still reseaching, but like to get feedback from ppl who have actually been. :)
7:48 Alftavatn lake appears at the beginning of the movie "Prometheus". Almost the same angle as in the movie.
Hey, did you bring a gas stove with you. Was wondering if it's possible on a plane or if you have to buy in Reykjavik
A really great film - thanks for sharing. What time of year did you go? I am thinking of doing this trail and would like to avoid the bugs and in your video it didn't look like you suffered with insects very much.
I did this in July. I don't think you can do the hike outside of June-September. At least before access to the trail gets closed for the winter.
Thanks! I am staying at Langidalur on the last day which doesn't have a restaurant. Any idea how far a walk it is to the hut you staying in to get a meal?
Hi! Thanks for that video! I'm thinking about going and this helps a lot. I have one question though. Were did you get the gas canister? Is it possible to get it at the start of the hike or should I look for it still in Reykjavik?
I got mine at an outdoors shop in Reykjavik called Fjallakofinn. You can also buy them at the start of the hike, but the price is of course a bit higher there.
What a great video Allan it’s given me a great insight to the trail which I will be doing in August so thank you.
What month did you take on the trail?
It was in July
@@AllanSu thank you very much
Hi Allan, thank you for the video! Can you tell me how many liter backpack you've used on the trip for your gear?
55liter. But I could probably have gotten away with around 40liter
Great video, really informative. Question: Which sleeping bag and mat did you use?
Full gear list: allansu.com/gear/
@@AllanSu this only lists camera gear, no camping gear
How long does the highland bus take to get back to Reykjavik? I've heard it can take 10+ hours with many stops along the way (but may be thinking of a different bus).
With completing this hike in a leisurely manner, how many days in total would you recommend for the Iceland trip?
A huge thanks to you for the guide!
One important question: how to cross big rivers without a bridge? Are they deep? Is the stream fast? I slept in such a river last year in Norway and badly hurt my knee...
At least knee deep for the bigger rivers. But it really depends on the weather
Can I ask what you had to go through for permission to fly the drone. I am going in July to do this trail and other things but finding the drone regs a bit confusing
There is another stage. Thorsmork to Skogafoss.
Super, how many days total on the hike? what was the daily temperatures high & lows?
I did it in 3 days. It was around High 13 to low 7 degrees celsius
Is there a more specific time you would choose to do the hike within the summer window?
I would personally try to avoid late June, as there still may be a lot of snow on the trail which can be an issue. But anywhere between July through August should be fine. Once September comes around, the weather gets colder and becomes unpredictable
How did you stay on the trail when the snow covered the area?
I have an experienced backpack group of 10 guys, we want to go to iceland, but we would like something a bit longer, more challenging and perhaps more remote. Any other suggestions for Iceland?
