- Ilulissat is situated in Disko Bay at the mouth of the Ilulissat Icefjord which was included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. There are three designated hiking trails of varying duration and difficulty in the Illulisat Icefjord (Ilulissat Kangerlua) each providing fabulous opportunities to hike along the edge of the fjord and get stupendous views of a massive number of icebergs that have calved from the most active glacier in the world: Sermeq Kujalleq. We followed the blue route that takes you along a boardwalk past the old settlement of Semermuit and then follows the bare rocky coast above the fjord. We then joined the red route that took us back to the beginning of the boardwalk, which takes about a couple of hours. From here it's an easy 20 minutes walk back into the town, making this an ideal half day activity for those who have come into Ilulissat on a cruise ship.

Very nice. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for the comment. much appreciated
one of the best things I've done recently with 6:50 of time is watch this video. how completely satisfying and the music was lovely and calming.
Thanks, it's spectacular sight
Unspoilt natural beauty.
Far from the madding crowd
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great video.
Thank you.
Patricia Bracken thanks, it’s a fantastic place. But increasing visitors, especially from cruise ships, is putting pressure on the area. They are also building a visitors Centre which will increase tourism
Perfect antidote to the relentless rain we've been having for weeks now. Cheers.
+Adrian McGlynn Thanks, Adrian. The glorious Arctic summer seems like a distant dream now!
Wow, beautiful! - a pleasure to watch!
new support
Your doing it again Martin...you know making us want to go places. Beautiful video mate made all the more appealing because of the fantastic conditions you had. No Mozzies this time. Good for you. All the best. Mark.
Agree totally. Sunset over Ilulissat, possibly the most surreal place on earth. I stayed in Winter 2002 .. the boardwalk wasn't built then. No mosquitos then, but prbly too cold for them, everything was frozen white
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
What a beautiful landscape Martin, flawless filming my friend and a joy to view :) Tim
+savedpurplecat Thanks, Tim. It was a real privilege to visit such an amazing part of our planet.
Excellent footage...thanks for sharing ATB Roger & Diane
+garn fora ratch Thanks, guys!
Great short film. Place I have wanted to go to and may do it yet. Sure I seen it on the TV program, 'Ice Cold Gold' on Sky channel.
+Renegade Scot Glad you liked the film. Ilulissat is one of the most expensive parts of Greenland but well worth breaking the piggy bank to go to, as the ice-floe from the glacier is simply staggering. We arrived by ferry from Nuuk but there are also direct flights from Reykjavik and from within Greenland by small plane or helicopter. We flew back to Iceland from here.
+Kernowclimber You need to get over to Scotland for a trip. Currently planning my route for the 14 day 'TGO Challenge' next year from the West Cost to East. Cant wait!
+Renegade Scot WOW, That sounds like fun! Yes, Martin and I would love to get to Scotland; I haven't set foot there since 1976! Let us know how you get on with the challenge and best of luck :-)
How beautiful !!!was it summer?
Which month have you been there?
We were there in late August, which is pretty much the autumn up in Greenland. It's a remarkable place and the short hike we did gives you some great views of the ice floes and icebergs in the fjord.
What month did you go there?
Late August. The midges and mosquitoes are not as bad then.
@@EtherealLightPhotography thank you. Finally going there in June.
Så bliver det ikke mere storslået
Every individual should own electic cars, solar panels and recycle which should be passed as a law to stop global warming and save the glaciers.
