The battery in these units swell and leak. Very dangerous!
The big problem with these fans is that they're a fraction of the static pressure of the original Nidec models. Like less than 1/4 in fact. They may work in many situations where the hardware isn't stressed. If Supermicro could have used Noctua fans to the same cooling performance, they would have - they're (all) much cheaper than the Nidecs.
Remove your hand 😢
The receiver to a wire tracer for the telephone company works great too
I have exactly the same model as Mark. 2 days ago something started smelling like electrical smoldering in my lab. I couldn’t find the source. Even when everything was off there wasn’t any prime suspect. Then yesterday when I was turning on my CyberPower UPS, I heard a kind of a boiling sound and the smell intensified. Disassembly confirmed browning of this yellow glue in exactly the same area. I don’t know yet if the damage is done or I only need yo get rid of the glue. It’s a shame CyberPower won’t recall these units.
Interesting Video, especially since I am looking for a hack to deal with electrical interruptions. Not sure how to keep the heating element on during a power outage but at the least it would be good to be able to backup the rest of the circuitry so that it would restart when power resumesand hold settings. Many people are looking for a solution for this.

If your vdevs are mirrored, you can spread the disks across the two HBAs to gain some redundancy that way also.
i bought toilet paper but i didn't make a video about it google ad sense turn people crazy
What is the diameter of the outermost copper coil? 7" ? 8"?
You talk too much.
I used to type on these for $.10 / page for my parents who were both court stenographers. We owned two of these and had a typewriter repairman come to the house for regular service. You are right. 1950's - 1970's. Best machines ever. 100 wpm easily.
Mine has a problem with the motor. We it's turned on the impeller turns for 30-40 seconds. Then stops and won't spin again I was able to get it apart but don't see anything obvious that would the motor. Any thoughts? Thanks
i wonder how difficult it would be to make a kind of drop-in replacement of SLA batteries, fitting into the same package? i'm sure a lot of people could find use for it especially for just running low power network equipment like modems and routers where maintenance-free protection against momentary power loss would be useful.
Unacceptable Cyberpower. Cheapest = Cheapest
these days ISA is repurposed for communication with TPM modules. the spec is a bit different but some people have managed to get ISA back out of the TPM connector. i think the project is called "dISAppointment" or something lol
I am surprised, it appears this is very good info. My UPS has been not accepting grid power after the grid goes down, even for a few seconds. The UPS run until the batteries go dead and the UPS didn't charge. I put new batteries in the unit and still no charging. I opened the old Cyberpower 1500VA AVR and found the hard yellow glue in the charging part of the circuit board. I cleaned all the glue off the board and components. I then reassembled the unit and turned it on. The unit started charging the batteries. I unplugged several times and it now works as it should. It recovers and charges the batteries. I can think of at least two TV sets that I tossed that had a lot of the yellow glue in them. Darn!! BTW good video. Oh, the yellow glue was on a zener diode, the diode next to it, the 8 pin chip and then onto the two caps.
blah blah blah blah blah blah IT'S NOT WORKING blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Just took mine apart and yup, yellow mush in 2 board locations , brown mush in 2 board locations I assume since it failed that’s the issue but now what??!
Does Cyberpower warranty or recall these affected units?
Mine just died 8 days ago, it sounded a continuous tone and then died I bought the 2-battery replacement and installed them 2 days ago but haven’t put it back into use as of yet for a portion of some very expensive recording studio gear, so arggg !! Mines from Amazon 2017-2018
Excelente y profundo en la explicación, detalles a fondo, muchas gracias, ha sido de gran ayuda.
Interesting vid. Thank you. I use a multi-frequency metal detector and EMI sometimes interferes with the signal from the coil (round part at the bottom of the shaft). I’d like to find and understand the EMI source. Would the frequency tone get louder as I get closer to the source? How can I replicate the EMI that interferes with my detector? I know there are FCC regulations to help prevent EMI interference, but I think it would be okay if I’m doing it to my own equipment. In advance, thanks for your advice.
Problem solved, I bought an Eaton.
I just picked one up but has no keys what do both key holes in back of machine open?the top? The keys might be hanging inside so does this have the right side keylock to open from for adjustment or is the adjustment in the back?
What regulator did you use . I want to do this to my amp which is the same as this one. Thanks.
is there a good UPS out there?
What size coil? 8"?
I have a bunch of these units and so far, no issues with any of them, the earliest being 2019. I haven't even replaced any of the batteries! Hope they don't go bang but I appreciate the video and will attempt to repair them if they do fail due to the glue. And I didn't even notice until you pointed it out with your LCD fix that one of them is super dim compared to the others haha.
WHY, WHY,WHY ???? This cult about ZFS and not using HW RAID is very narrow minded. I challenge you to use ZFS over a HW RAID. Just try it, you will thank me later. But I can say it now --- You are welcome !!!
Arrived from Tom Lawrence video. Man this is gold thanks a lot for this video!
Thanks, Mark, that was very helpful. I bought one of these from Amazon and was surprised that it came as a kind of kit. I always wanted to have a handy LCR meter and, as you say, the price was right. Just got it yesterday and haven't had time to mess with it.
I just came across this video and I have encountered a similar issue I think. My Lyr 3 makes and audio click and the audio stops playing for around 15-20 second, it clicks again and the audio is once again playing. I emailed Schiit about it and after not getting the greatest of help from them I finally got a response that it could be a transistor. Now sometime it clicks even if I am not playing any audio at all and I am just sitting at my desk viewing the web. Is this the same issue you're that this video could fix? It seems random, but I could trying listening to some music to see if I can find a track that will get it to click off to test.
Got here via shotout from Lawrence systems. Great vid, explained everything I needed in a precise manner.
GG xD
I'd imagine that some sort of diode should be put in circuit to stop the 3.3V from backfeeding into the motherboard.
Excellent observation , Mark. Thank you. Question: How to "reset" or "restart" microcontroller just in case ?
I bet you the c-media chip's eq is used for making the microphone capsules sound better to the ears.
2:31 pop! os has nvidia support, there's separate iso for that even actually very useful, since i use artix and don't want to change anything (except configuring gpu)
thank you for sharing your video. where did you get the screwdriver? thank you
Do you have any idea what current the motor will trip at? Mine is starting to cut out intermittently and I am trying to figure out why.
A lighting strike is like 1 billion joules 😂 don't think that was lighting that caused that.
We had this in Vitavox radio in 1986 in India.
