Dill!!!
@@teresamackenzie9896 love dill!! But my garden doesn't like it as I can never seem to grow it well! No issues with any other herbs but dill is challenging for me lol!!
Basil and oregano 🎉
@@lancejackson5970 yummy!
Good vid but not even close to "the ultimate guide". The title got me to click but where's the info on freezing/blanching equipment?
@@PaulLadendorf thanks for your input! I never really thought of those as being specialized equipment for food preservation but you're right really those should be included as they are very important aspects of preserving food.
Another St Johns Wort harvester suggested leaving the flowers on a tray for an hour or so. All her beetles just leave and she can get on with her process. Thank you for this!
@@skimusic3773 excellent tip! Kind of the same as I do with flowers like chamomile where you get a lot of little bugs...they usually crawl out of the flowers after they are sitting for a bit. Sadly these beetles killed most of my St. John's Wort patch though so I'll have to get out amd forage some wild plants this year!
@@savoryandsage It likes disturbed earth, and apparently my garden is very disturbed. I have some large stands in the wildest corners, so I really needed this video. Thanks again - U.P. Michigan here so we "rhyme" as far as land and weather.. Subscribed.
@@skimusic3773 awesome nice to have you along! I've been a bit slack on videos recently as I'm working for a few months but hoping to get back at it soon....herbalism is really a passion of mine❤️
They aren’t Japanese beetles, they are jewel beetles, Agrilus hyperici, the St. John's wort root borer
@@globaltsarina thanks so much for the info! I guess this explains why my St. John's Wort plants didn't come back this year...well I have one tiny one and that's it
I love your videos ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Can you give me the recipe
I make my own kefir with kefir grains I received from a friend. I was told store bought kefir isn’t as good.
I think in general store bought anything is inferior to homemade!
Thank you!!! Looks fantastic 🤤 goi g to make this🤗
Jen…. You’re videos are always so helpful and informative 🤍

FIRST COMMENT PLS PIN ME
Just got one of these bread bakers for my birthday. Wasn't sure how much I would have to change my usual process so I am happy to have found this video!
I must say I love this bread baker. I baked a second loaf at the same time the other day and used my old dutch oven for the second loaf and that one burned on the bottom lol...so in my opinion this baker is the perfect baker!
Wouldn't that be better to make the syrup without honey and use only sugar? You can add the honey after it has boiled and reduced and has cooled to a temperature below 50-60 degrees Celsius in order to preserve the medicinal properties of the honey.
Certainly could try it that way yes!! I'm getting another batch on soon so will try it that way and see if there's any difference in consistency but totally agree I do love to preserve those great qualities of the raw honey!
If you add pectin, could we make a jelly?
I have never tried it but I would think yes! You may have to adjust the sugar amounts though depending on the type of pectin to ensure it sets properly.
Can you please get to the point Some of us are busy out here I try to monitor a dozen sites
Thanks for your feedback.
They put calcium back I to ground where calcium is depleted 😊
Cool fact!
Thank you for not calling this dandelion honey.
Haha not a problem🤣
Aren't you supposed to cook it first, I heard it makes you sick if you eat them raw????? 😮
There is very little information on this actually, but yes it is said that heating elderberries denatures this cyanide inducing substance found in the elderberry seeds and stems. It doesn't take much heat to do this apparently. Nonetheless, it really is a personal choice and preference to do this as many also have added raw elderberries to things for hundreds of years. I never use fresh elderberries for my tinctures, always dried. I'm not sure if the drying process denatures this substance or not. Some people will add their elderberry tinctures to hot teas as they feel more comfortable taking it this way. Also tinctures are taken in such small quantities, I personally don't worry about it, but again that's totally a personal preference. Hope this helps!
our dandelions are done now, but we have a neighbor that never puts fertilizer on their yard, I will have to ask if I can have some of their dandelions next year to make this. Maybe save a glass maple syrup jar for it too. Thanks for sharing this!
You definitely won't be disappointed if you try this syrup!! Let me know how it turns out if you try it next year😀

You have such excellent content and presentation. Am watching your vid with my wife, who also makes kefir. I am puzzled as to why you have relatively few views. I have a similar problem with my YT vids (not about kefir). Can't figure out why. (?)
Thanks so much! And your guess is as good as mine when it comes to why some videos and channels get much more traction than others lol! Best of luck with your channel!
Hi dear, I need help with measurements for fresh lemon balm
Hi there...I would use about a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio for fresh lemon balm. So one part fresh lemon balm leaves chopped to about 2 or 3 parts alcohol, instead of the 1:5 ratio I used for dried herb.
@@savoryandsage Thank you so much!! New subbie here!
Thank you for this video! I have arthritic issues, especially in my hip. A friend took me out to gather these buds and my fingers were CAKED with yellow resin. I love how they smell of bee propolis. I poured sunflower oil over them and they’ve been in my cabinet for about 2 months now and I haven’t been sure when to start using it or doing something else with it. I suppose I’ll keep it in there a bit longer, but do you think I could do the slow cook method to speed up the process at this point?
Glad you enjoyed the video! I think it's infused enough if it's been in the cabinet for two months so you could strain and enjoy the oil now. I love poplar oil and use it in a blend with other oils for my aches and pains as well but it could certainly be beneficial on it's own too. I agree the smell is amazing!!!
@@savoryandsage thank you for the info! Do you recommend any particular add-ins for topical use on aches?
@@shiivainu9442 I make an oil blend with balsam poplar oil, comfrey oil, St. Johns wort oil and castor oil. It's not all typical herbs used for aches and pains but they do have qualities that make them great for this purpose. I really love this blend and use it often on my hips during garden season when they tend to give me more trouble lol! Arnica is another one that would be great to add. Juniper berry as well is great!
Good simple video on elderberry tincture. Thanks
You're very welcome!! This was my very first video lol so glad you liked it!
Do you or anyone know if using poplar oil will effect results in drug testing?
I can't see how it would. Not to my knowledge anyhow. Not sure if maybe you're thinking of poppy?
Thnks for more information But i have query how to remove when get in clothes Reply mam its urgent
I have never had to remove the balsam poplar resin from clothing but this generally works for tree sap so may work for this too so you can try it. For sap I try and chill the fabric (in a freezer) to harden the sap then scrape off what I can then take a cotton ball soaked in alcohol and try and dab and soak the remainder off. It depends on the fabric too though because you have to make sure the fabric won't fade by applying alcohol. Test it on an inside seam first to make sure.
Mam reply any solution to remove this resin if u know
You could put peroxide, vinegar, lemon juice or milk in that water to kill fungi, bacteria and mildew. Just don't use bleach or soaps.
I hear you . Same thing too. Hard cold windy freeze all winter left a mess. Got to get some scubbing going. Yeaa
So sorry about Lilly. Dogs leave such a hole in your life when they are gone. It's amazing how much they become part of us.
Thanks...they most definitely do don't they...still seems surreal but like so many hardships in life you grow and adapt from it..
So sad, but kitty is cheering you up here. I was so happy to find that my rosemary made it thru the winter. I grow it in pots, and then bury it in leaf mulch at the end of the fall. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Yes the kitties definitely help...they are such sweeties! I haven't been able to get rosemary to overwinter here at all! Would love that! I grow it in pots as well...maybe I'll try your method and see if it works for me! Thanks for the tip!
Love to you and your family, she was a beautiful dog 🙏 Thank you for coming back with another wonderful video. As you mentioned, a series on herbs would be amazing!! How to grow them and how you personally use them.
Thank you🥰 Yes herbalism is my passion! I'll definitely be doing more herbal videos!
I'm sorry for your loss. 🙏
Thank you🥰
That's what I'm doing right now too!!❤
Awesome!
What if you don’t wash them? I never wash mine.
Honestly I never used to at all and never had any issues and I've been gardening for a lot of years lol. But the past couple of years I've had some different random issues with my seedlings. I sometimes blame it on the potting soil but idk for sure. The "experts" always recommend sanitizing your seedling pots every year in case there are any residual fungal or bacterial diseases from previous years that might damage your delicate seedlings. Because I suspect soil concerns in recent years I've taken to the expert advice just to give myself a better start to the season!
The experts also recommend sterilizing the seed start mix too which I never have had the patience for! Hopefully we never have the need.
@@SageandStoneHomestead haha I most definitely don't have the patience for that one either🤣
I ordered this Emile Henry Italian Loaf baker from Amazon twice and each time it arrived broken in pieces. Amazon would not allow me to order it a third time so I ordered it from Chefs Corner Store. It arrived with a crack in it and I am so bummed. Emile Henry needs to package the baker better for shipping purposes. Anyway, I am using the cracked one until another one arrives in one piece. I was happy to see a recipe that fits this baker. I have tried adjusting recipes and there are so many different recipes out there and I have spent a great deal of time experimenting. I have never seen one that adds the starter after hydrating the flour so I am anxious to try your recipe. I have also found recipes that bake in the preheated vessel and others that start with the vessel in a cold oven to start the baking. I am curious to find out the difference in how the bread turns out. I have tried other sourdough sandwich bread recipes but they are too dense...we like an airier bread. I don't eat bread but enjoy the process of creating beautiful baked goods.
The first one we ordered from Amazon came in pieces too!! I blamed it on Christmas shipping craziness but yeah they really do need to package this better as it is delicate for the shipping system! The second one I got in was perfect...can't believe Amazon wouldn't allow another order though! I sure hope your next one comes in one piece, it really is a nice baker. I even do smaller loaves in it now...basically a half recipe. I do that one the same but use all spelt flour for my husband. Turns out half decent for all spelt, more dense of course but very tasty. My kids especially love the size of the loaf from the video as its great for their large appetites and for their sandwiches. Let me know how it turns out when you make it!
@@savoryandsage I have made two loaves with the cracked vessel. One I proofed on the counter and the other proofed in the frig. I cannot smell or taste but my husband said he prefers the one proofed in the frig as it has a more sour taste (which I have read that is what is supposed to happen). He has challenged me to making some different flavors (cheese and jalapeños, cinnamon etc.) I also want to learn to make gluten free sourdough for my daughter.
Never heard of that particular Tomato but sounds like a no brainer for our Short, Northern climate… and I’m with you 100% on the Beet Bandwagon 😅👊
Jen… I’d ♥️ to see you do a Kohlrabi playlist from… growing tips to Table Top 😊🪴
Appreciate your valuable info friend 🇨🇦
Can you over heat, buds/oil combination?
You can definitely overheat herbs when infusing rhem in oil...but I would think poplar buds aren't quite as sensitive to that as say leafy herbs. But I would still be cautious and use a double boiler method or a very low setting on a slow cooker.
Thanks, I will be trying another batch, not on high (crockpot) My buds were not sticky, mid March in Ontario.
@briankristy8098 I just picked another bunch of buds last week here in Newfoundland. They actually weren't quite as resinous as the ones I got last year but still made a wonderful oil. We've had pretty early spring weather this year which I imagine is probably the same up your way. I wonder if it would have been more ideal to pick them a month earlier this year? I think next winter I'm going to check the buds monthly from January to April to see when they seem to have the highest resin content! Nonetheless I think you should still get a nice oil from your buds. Can try letting them infuse longer as long as its a very low heat and if you're doing it in the slow cooker keep something under your jars so the bottom isnt touching the cooker bottom.
@@savoryandsage yes us too, early spring here, done making maple syrup 170 L, dark grade. I had my mason jars, on a cloth (in crockpot) with a coffee filter covering each jar (let it breathe). In pot for 4 days. I was expecting that nice poplar smell, (to me it smells good) I don’t think there is a lot of resin, when it’s too cold? I will let you know how my second batch is done! Happy Easter, Brian
People that have high blood pressure use salt substitute instead of salt
Thank for this helpful Video Jen 🪴
this is the best canning video...thank you for explaining everything...💚
Glad you liked it🥰
Could a timer that you could plug the dehydrator into help?
That's something I have never considered! Good idea!
What is the length of the banneton you used?
That's a 14 inch banneton😀
@@savoryandsage thanks!
We have a water heater so that doesn’t happen😅
No electricity in our barn right now but hopefully in the future we will so a water heater is definitely on our list lol!
Beautifully done!
Thank you!
