We are a little late planting our hardneck garlic this year but it's better late than never!! Hardneck garlic needs to be planted in the Fall for growth during our next growing season after a long cold winter. So it also requires a nice thick cozy bed of mulch to survive winter!

So glad you got the kitties fixed. They are having so much fun.💥 I’m excited to see how your garlic grows.

Most definitely agree about getting them fixed! They are living their best life now! Garlic is one of my faves to grow for sure!

I've only been growing garlic for 6 years, but have always used leaves that have not been shredded. The garlic does well every year. I add 1tbsp of bonemeal in each hole when planting and I usually remove the leaves in the summer but will try leaving them on next year :) Take care. Great video.

Glad you enjoyed it! Keep an eye to the mulch that it doesn't form too much of a mat though and prevent the garlic from poking through. I haven't had any trouble but it is definitely a risk with leaves. Happy growing!

Have had great luck covering with 4 mil plastic over the top of the leaves or straw, and can use the same piece generally for at least 2 years.

Never thought of plastic! Thanks for the idea!
