Every damn time. I don’t know where people seem to get this idea but there seems to be this strange concept that game devs have absolute control of the titles they work on. Like, you can work for a manufacturing company for car parts in a factory, and absolutely NO-ONE in their right mind would ever say “yo, why do you charge so much?” There’s an inherent understanding that a factory provides the source, and then they’re distributed to suppliers by entirely different people, and then the suppliers themselves assign a cost at multiple levels of separation from the people actually MAKING the thing But games? Why didn’t Sarah the programmer who just spent 40 hours doing server fixes and backlog clearing just make the game on sale over the weekend. Why did Justin, the QA manager, decide to charge $40 for the DLC? Why did Horatio the absolute MONSTER of a game designer, who was in charge of ensuring the XP curve was balanced through the main 3 areas of the game, elect to fire half of his own team? The developers MAKE the game. Even a studio at 30+ people will have employees who are completely disconnected from any major or financial decision. They’re just collar workers like anyone else
