How these grizzlies reacted to me in the very early morning light. - Yellowstone
I was walking right past the first grizzly that was watching me pass at 20 away. I spent a lot of valuable time trying to get my camera to focus in the low light. I started out hiking at 4:45 am and this encounter happens at 5:30 am. Doing everything possible to keep the grizzly bears calm is my top priority. Through all my videos I try to show how I do that. This is the way I do it, but you should do what feels best for you.

Crossing paths with a Yellowstone grizzly bear.

Coyote Chasing a Grizzly Bear

This is a beautiful hike but the one amazing thing that I saw was a coyote chasing a grizzly bear. The video of the coyote and grizzly is a little shaky because they were a long ways off so I was using full zoom on my camera while trying to keep them in the frame. Yellowstone National Park and the Yellowstone ecosystem is an amazing place in the backcountry this time of year.

This 15 mile day hike starts at the Blacktail trailhead in Yellowstone National Park. This is the time of year to do this hike because it is not too hot and everything is turning green. Later in the summer it will be hot and dry in this area. It is so nice to get out and away from everything and enjoy peace and quiet in Gods beautiful creation.

This is one of the first hikes that you can do in Yellowstone that will be mostly clear of snow. I also saw the first bear tracks. These are not great tracks, but I think they look more like black bear tracks than grizzly tracks. One thing to keep in mind about tracks this time of year is that they may actually be tracks that were made last fall and frozen into the mud all winter.

This is a nice day hike that you can do in the spring and summer. I am doing it now to see if there is any evidence of grizzly activity in this area. But in the summer you will have a good chance of seeing a bear in this area. This hike started off at about 10 degrees below zero Fahrenheit which makes for good snowshoeing. It took about 6.5 hours to do this 7 mile hike. Daly creek is in Yellows...

Humans are the only predators who don't visually signal. Grizzly bear signalled to you at 04:40 that he wasn't predating you (averted his gaze (turned his neck and head completely to the side and held the position) he only looked back at you for your reply. Did you turn your head and make sure he saw? At 04:53, grizzly signalled to you a 2nd time, this time even more exaggerated. From 04:43: - 05:00 he averted his gaze and kept his head turned away for a full 7 seconds. He was telling you I'm not predating you. He just wanted to know if you were predating him. You have to signal back. A good signal is a clear signal. Completely turn your neck and avert your gaze for at least 5 seconds. At 05:04, grizzly bear signalled a 3rd time.
