  • This is an hour long video that can be watched while exercising on a treadmill or exercise bike. It is composed of 4 hikes on the Thunderer including a short winter hike. There is a lot of wildlife in this video including grizzlies. This is an area that you have a good chance of having close encounters with bears because there are a lot of them around here and you can't see very well with all the timber. Never do this hike without a couple cans of bear spray, and it may be good to have a couple people with you.

    I ran into a bear this summer on a trail, the bear was face down pawing and sniffing at the ground, and only twenty feet away. It did not look up but it still bothered me all summer and I stayed off of the thick overgrown trails. I really enjoy your videos and agree with your approach to nature in a quiet peaceful way. I will also pray for your safety while you are out exploring.

    Awww. Beautiful bears! They look like siblings and probably kicked out of Mom's area recently. Glad they ran away from you. That area you were in received so much damage from the flooding this year.

    Truly grateful to see this. It's a real shame to see all these trees down. I'm guessing this is the result of bad weather.

    Have you ever travelled to the Brooks Range in AK? Enjoy your explorations……..be safe out there. At least the bear scat didn’t have hiker remnants…….the tree scratches were a indicator…..come at your own risk…whew. The skyline shots & goats were fantastic.

    Great video Stan! I recognize the area. I commented in an earlier video your living my dream! I owned 10 acres in Wapiti I was going to build on but life changed and I mistakenly followed the $. You know I was skeptical about the way you handle the close calls with the bears by staying quiet. But you are winning me over. I think by being quiet you take on more of a predator role in the bears eyes, which in turn makes them want to create distance out of uncertainty. After all, what predator goes after it’s prey screaming and yelling from 50 yards away? Anyway please keep the vids coming they are wonderful.

    • @StanMills

      10 acres in Wapiti. Do you mean in the Taylor Fork?

    • @dictator9849
      @dictator9849 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@StanMillsNo, it’s Wapiti on the North Fork highway, about 30 miles east of the east gate of Yellowstone. Wapiti is basically just a post office.

    What about cougars or mountain lions? Any there

    • @Azureblue25
      @Azureblue25 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Mountain Lions are around in Yellowstone, but they’re just rare to see, there’s only 30-40 Mountain Lions in the entire park but I’ve heard the population is slowly growing, most of them are in the Northern Range and also the mountainous areas of Eastern Yellowstone, Winter is probably the best season to spot them, but they have been seen in Yellowstone in all seasons so anything is possible, also the road from the North entrance to the Northeast entrance in Yellowstone is open all year, so that gives some people a better chance to spot both Wolves and Mountain Lions in Winter, and in Early Spring when there’s still snow on the ground and while most of the park roads are still closed at that time, it also gives the opportunity to find large male Grizzly Bears which are also not usually seen, especially if there’s something like a dead Bison or Elk not too far away from the road. Most of the time it’s usually female Grizzly Bears with cubs and subadult Grizzly Bears that are more often seen by the roads from Late Spring to Autumn.

    Used to think you were wise and used caution but coming across the river showed someone struggling to survive and using all his energy reserves just trying to keep his footing and stay upright in the cold water. Your bear encounters are getting more dangerous. I will stop watching your videos at this point.
