    The Olympic Games are a showcase of vanity. The one play up to people's vanity. The Olympics are a commercial project to make money. Many athletes are unhealthy because the Olympics don't contribute to improving health.😱

      @Englishwithjennifer Pƙed 22 hodinami

      Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts. There's a darker side to most events. I look for the positives. I like the Opening Ceremonies that I've watched over the decades. I like the creativity and unity displayed, but I'm also aware that the host cities spend a lot on the games and that not all countries have sufficient resources to train. As for character, some athletes celebrate with true heart. A few celebrate with too much pride. I love the moments when a smaller country wins a medal. I often cheer for those athletes. In fact, I cheer loudly for the countries with a small delegation at the Opening Ceremony. It must be amazing to be the only one or maybe one of two to represent your whole country at an international event. Intensive training in any field or activity can take its toll. Thankfully, there's been more attention on mental health in recent years, and it's not taboo to go to a sports therapist. Today, hurtful trainers/coaches are more likely to be held accountable for their abuse of their athletes. Sports can be wonderful, but the effort must be made to keep them all healthy and fun.

      Yes, but it can be confusing since other words like "politics" can actually be singular or plural. I wouldn't argue with someone who wanted to use the singular. I would just explain that my preference is for the plural verb, and most speakers I hear have the same preference.

    what about jennifer instead of monthly or weekly: the collocation: per month and per weeK and per hour . It is usual in Economic issues vocabulary. thanks and good job, on the other hand you have stolen my thunder.lol I have never seen a country like Egypt with the tips culture. Tips, tips, tips..it looks like Monty Phyton spam , spam , spam ,spam...so as to avoid this annoyance the traveller agencies takes your tips in advance into the budget one. good lesson for brushing up's brains. It looks like a notebook in fact.

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer Pƙed 6 dny

      Sure, Manuel. You can ask, "What do you get paid per hour?" Well, that is, if it's appropriate to ask the person such a direct question! I personally talk about my hourly rate. It's partly about collocations: hourly rate weekly earnings/income annual salary/income get paid X per hour earn X per week The tipping culture is getting a bit out of hand in the U.S. with electronic payments. We're shown a screen in many places of business, and they make us feel cheap if we select the lowest option of 15%. The options are usually 15,% 20%, 25%, and even 30% or "custom" for a higher amount. I usually choose 20%, but for my hair stylist, I go with 25% because I value her service and I go to her each month.
