You're not far off, Thiago. "Fate" is often but not always associated with unpleasant events. We even have the adjective "ill-fated." However, fate can be kind. Fate can be merciful. Fate can being two people together. In that last situation, speakers may use either of the words: It was their destiny to be together. From a certain standpoint, "destiny" can be negative, like Luke Skywalker being told that his destiny was to join the Dark Side and rule along with his father, Darth Vader.

Those interjections have become common expressions of surprise. However, "God willing" is more limited. It's used more by those who have faith in God. I don't think age is as strong a factor. Another thing people might say is "I hope to God": I hope to God he's telling the truth. But again, that may or may not mean the speaker actually believes in God. Hope that helps.

Destiny and fate have their equivalent in kismet and naseeb in Persian/Hindi .Naseeb is what is already decided..kismet is chancy with an element of fate in it.. The equivalent of God willing in Persian will be inshalla..(I remember the air hostess announcing, " your flight to Cairo will land in two hours, Inshalla" omg, she needs God's help to pilot the craft, a tremor of fear runs down my spine! That maybe the pilot isn't very competent or the plane is old and not working well, so we won't be landing? Ha ha. Yes, "destiny" is more forward-thinking, but they overlap, don't they? Fate and destiny are largely understood by someone's belief system. And for those who believe in God, they may or may not believe that we have control over events. The understanding of these concepts vary. Thanks for watching!
