      That's wonderful! My Russian has weakened a bit over the years, but I meet with tutors 1-2 times a week for practice.😃 I try to watch some of the news in Russian.

    good job Jennifer. as usual, listening your words make me relax and easier to understand than another ones. I love writing with fronting sentences, cleft and inversion . From the house, she walked toward me.,She walked toward me from the house. thank for brushing up my brain.

    That's the very information I've needed badly, especially on that fronting and inversion, a million thanks for the unique advanced lesson. Great idea with the quiz, too.

      Glad it was helpful! Feel free to ask any follow-up questions. I'm still wrapping my head around some of the grammar myself. My explanation will likely be refined as time goes on and I have even more opportunities to consider the patterns in use. Like all of you, I'm still learning. There's so much to discover!

    I agree to Ray. Taking this opportunity, all I want is to express my heartfelt thanks to Jennifer for your devoted commitment in teaching us English. You made me latch onto English, but I still play hooky occasionally. Sorry for that.

    thanks once again for many ways to emphasize. my mother tongue hindi is weak on emphasis, it is derived from ancient Sanskrit which is basically a spoken language of religious chants and teachings. exposure to persian enriched its grammar and delivered it from agglutinated long words, which feature killed Sanskrit and gave rise to modern hindi.
    last, you could use newspaper headline examples to show how emphasis is created.
    best wishes and thanks once again for a masterly exposition with movie clips to add spice!

      I appreciate the skill your mind has to read and write in such different languages!
      As for headlines, that's a whole course in psychology. They employ different techniques to convey information and attract our attention.
      Thank you for supporting my efforts.

    I've seen an explanation that no + noun means like the + noun in negative sentences... like "negative topic/theme" in the grammar...
    And I know another intensifier "every single" - every single day, every single one, etc. Also every last

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  Před 5 měsíci

      There are more structures to be added to this list. I have another lesson on the use of auxiliary verbs for emphasis and clarification.
      "Every single" is a wonderful structure as well. Very common. "No" + noun can certainly sound stronger than simply "not any." You can hear examples on YouGlish and GetYarn for context.
