    Hello Jennifer!
    Thank you for sharing this useful vocabulary with us!
    I would say I don't want to be filthy rich but, I would certainly want to be rich enough to live my life with dignity.
    Take care!

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  Před rokem

      Yeah, "filthy rich" isn't my aspiration either. I think there's a way to gain some wealth and still have integrity and compassion for others. Living with a sense of dignity is important. It may be harder without money, but I think dignity comes from within. What do you think?

      Absolutely!
      I think there's no harm in being rich but, once we are rich, we should not get lost in its comforts. There's nothing like being compassionate and helpful in this transient world.

    Hi Jennifer. Thank you so much for this great lesson. Well personally I think I live from paycheck to paycheck I'm not fabulously rich but hopefully I'll be financially comfortable one day and I hope everybody is well-off to enjoy their life.🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  Před rokem

      Glad you liked the lesson. I agree that it's more realistic and probably healthier in some ways to simply be financially comfortable than fabulously rich. Many can't handle the responsibility of great wealth -- though some of us think, "Well, I'd sure like the chance to try!" I think in wishing others well, we're setting ourselves up for happiness, so keep up the positive attitude! Thanks for watching.

    Hi, Jennifer,
    I watched your video and did the following practice:
    We can make big bucks. So we can know where our next meal is coming from. We do not have to make ends meet and scrape by, and we do not live from paycheck to paycheck. We are financially comfortable even filthy rich, not dirt poor. Furthermore, we can be philanthropists and do lots of philanthropic activities and philanthropy. Someone may say we are fabulously rich or living a life of luxury. However, we have money to spare and make a living. Being fairly well-off and paying the bills, not extremely well-off, not crazy rich. We won't be broke if we use money smartly.
    Thanks for your video!

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  Před rokem

      I like your ending. Let's be wise with our money, right?
      Some suggestions:
      We can make big bucks. If we earn a decent living, we know where our next meal is coming from. We do not simply have to make ends meet and scrape by. Instead of living from paycheck to paycheck, we can be financially comfortable. In fact, a few of use may even be filthy rich, not dirt poor. Furthermore, we can be philanthropists and do lots of philanthropic activities and philanthropy. Someone may say we are fabulously rich or living a life of luxury. While it is true we may have money to spare and make a good living, it still requires work. Being fairly well-off and paying the bills is what what most want to achieve. We do not need to be extremely well-off, not crazy rich. We won't be broke if we use money wisely (OR if we are smart with our money).

    Hi, those movie clips help a lot to understand the meaning of the phrases and it must be a lot of work to put them together, so I wonder how do you get to the right examples inside the movie and where do you get all those clips?

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  Před rokem

      I'm glad you liked their inclusion. Hopefully, my use is seen as fair and acceptable use for educational purposes! There are sites that compile clips. It takes a bit of searching, but I can usually find a few seconds to illustrate the words in context.

      That's the dream many of us share -- to be very financially comfortable and not stress so much about money concerns. It's helped me to express gratitude for what I have, even if the situation seems precarious as times. It's possible to find joy in the moment and in the day. I hope you find that job you seek!

    Super lesson. Impoverished and affluent are good alternatives for poor and rich.
    One may also say this:
    He's stinking rich.
    She's rolling in it.
    They're living the high life.
    He's on his uppers.
    She's on her backside.
    They don't have two bent pennies to rub together.
    I don't have a pot to pee in.
    I'm brassic! (Colloquialism)
    He's skint.
    We're in the red.

    • @Englishwithjennifer
      @Englishwithjennifer  Před rokem +2

      Yes, I've heard "stinking rich" before. That one definitely has a touch of negativity to it. "Rolling in it" sounds excessive for sure. I've heard about "living the high life," but I think it goes beyond money sometimes. The others may be more common in the UK. So many colorful ways to talk about wealth. Thanks for sharing!
