Normal sudoku rules apply. A clue outside the grid gives the sum of all cells that contain a digit equal to the distance of that cell from that clue in the row or column. For example, a 3 in Row 3, Column 2 would count towards the 15 clue in column 2, and any other number would not. On a green line, adjacent digits differ by at least 5.

The Caged Arrows: An Approachable Sudoku
Thanks for solving our puzzle! Probably the hardest I've ever worked for a pun. It was great to finally do a collab with Marty and well.
Seems a risky question for Pointless to ask. By the time they aired the show, there was always the possibility Puccini Sudoku and Jeremy Sudoku would have been created. I'll give it a week before each appears on LMD.
"Pieces of seven, pieces of seven..." <-- Parroty Error Such a fabulous puzzle. I knew it would appear on CTC the moment I saw it on LMD :)
13:11 for me. What a fantastic break-in!! Awesome puzzle!
Brings notting 🫡💀
Haven't watched the whole video yet, but I will be donating to help this cat tomorow, after I get paid. I can't believe someone would do that to a cat, and I really hope the goal is met.
Seeing three rows ans three columns adding to fifteen, my mind immediately went to the 3x3 magic square. Which was the focus of a puzzle Mark did not too long ago.
took me 41 minutes! i have some learning to do
Normally I would not dare try a puzzle that is ranked 'very hard' and takes Simon over two hours to solve (taken by the lenght of the video). But as soon as the solve started, I realised that I might actually be able to do it. Somehow I find this much easier than Sudoku! Still took me three hours but I never felt that I got stuck. Thank you for this excellent and very enjoyable puzzle.
Once you understand the rules, this puzzle is not that difficult. 29:53 time for me.
So any sudoku with this rule is constrained by sets or subsets of 1-9. Wow.
One of my favourites that you've showcased on the channel
At about 31:00 you can limit U & V down to the top right two cells. Solving for possible digits for U&V you can narrow this down to a 258 triple. Seemed to be a much quicker way in from there on.
❤❤❤ mental:) not too difficult once your mind gets the logic, but yes it takes some time . excellent puzzle!
Simon's scanning was in rare form today... :p
23:44 for me.
20:08 today. You either get the 3x15 or you dont. the rest is just manual labour.
I had to try and solve it just from the thumbnail alone and yes this puzzle is really good.
Doom's Eye is a third eye so you need a very vivid imagination for these hard puzzles.
This puzzle is absolutely visually stunning! Love it <3
27:29 for me
Simon does a fantastic parrot impression. Would probably be a lot of fun at a party!
This was definitely an analytical puzzle, and I took some time before actually starting the solve thinking about the possibilities of the different cage totals. I was cooking lunch, so I had launched the puzzle into a new tab (paused) and as I was stirring the pasta, I was thinking about what A could be, given that I already knew it couldn't be 9 or 11, and there was a 4 in the column. I was able to eliminate 7, 12, and 13, leaving only 8 and 10 as possibilities. If it were 8, then the "innies" would total 24 and the "outies" would be 21, making them 489. If it were 10, then the "innies" would be 30 and the "outies" would be 15, but which would have to be 249 (since one of them had to be 1 or 9). But 249 would break the 10 totals, because that would use up 19, 28, and 46. So A had to be 8. Then for G, knowing that there was a 6 eliminated 7, 8, and 13, leaving only 10 and 12. For 12, the outies would be 9, which would have to be 126. For 10, the outies would be 15, and since one of those outies had to be 1 or 9, that meant they would be 168. But again, 168 would eliminate three of the possibilities for 10, so G had to be 12. Once lunch was ready, I came back, unpaused, and used my knowledge of the cage totals to speed through the solve. I don't really know how to count that time before actually playing the puzzle when I was thinking about it. But given that forethought, my subsequent solving time was 7:22, solver number 548. (This comment was copied from Sudoku Sleuth's solve of this puzzle from March 3, 2024, which is when I originally solved it and why my solver number is lower than Mark's.)
The program marks it wrong if you repeat a digit in a column even though the rules don't say anything about it...
Shadow the Hedgehog reference?
I got the parrots and then got stuck. great solve Simon
Spoke the parrot: "Just a four."
It took me 2 hours 20 minutes!!
I ❤ this puzzle. We could admire a new, witty rule in Sudoku. What entertainment!
42:28 for me
Simon has no sense of color propriety. He’s made water orange, land grey and now a German whisper snake grey.
61:06 for me - That was a crazy puzzle, though part of me wishes they were ex-parrots.
Stuck after the 89s. See that Mark had a little logic miss, so will keep after it and hopefully find my way. Fun puzzle so far!
Parroty 😂😂😂 .. we need a two truths and a lyon
I appreciate that you used your platform to help Eddie the cat. It's horrible that someone would shoot a cat with an air rifle. I was able to donate, even if it was just a small amount.
Simon: r5c2 can't be a three because.... (strange explanation instead of the 1/3 pair)
This one turned out to be fairly approachable if you don't overthink it. I know that goes against everything that Simon believes in, but there it is.
Such a stunning puzzle! Very nice smooth solve! ❤
Fascinating puzzle. I watch a lot of your videos but don't class myself as intelligent enough to solve them myself. However because you're so trained in the usual rules I found myself shouting at the screen on numerous occasions as my untrained brain found this rule set a lot more straight forward.
l like the concept behind the puzzle, but l wouldve appreciated a more "pure syntax" version of this puzzle,, as it is right now l have a hard time actually trying to solve the puzzle because of all the cosmetical stuff. It's especially difficult to properly color the white lines with how big they are and the way every cell is already colored in. l'm not saying this version shouldnt be the main one, but a secondary easier-to-digest version wouldve been nice :]
It's nice that Michael and Marty gave the parrots some nice rope[ing] to rest on at the bottom of their habitat.
Please record your first time watching small clips like that. I want to see your first reaction
Zee?! ZED!
Is it Zee or Zed? that is the true question
59:22 - made a couple of mistakes, great puzzle
I love how this is first 5 minutes of "...what?", then a fairly normal and rather quick solve, and then, quite unexpectedly to me, ends with another brilliant moment of "...what?". Totally genius puzzle.
what in tarnation
Well, I was starting back at 0 after missing CRAFT yesterday and nearly had 2 days on the trot with 0. Managed to pull it out of the bag at the last minute with: RADIO-OUTER-BOSSY (that was dumb!) -CROOK-PRONG-PROWL ....phew😅 Onwards and upwards from here!

I should know all these types of parrots. I see them flying around here every day! And the cockatoo should be saying a 4 letter word based on every cockatoo I’ve ever met. They’re all very naughty.
