I'm finding these last few days somewhat interesting because it's really showing just how big a difference having a good/lucky starting couple of guesses is, and how sometimes yellow letters can be more helpful than green. So I went SNAIL - PROBE - RETRO - ROVER and I think not having that ER at the end straight away actually did help out a lot

This one killed my 112 day streak. Nasty. Had three guesses left but four possible answers, and I lucked out. Since playing Wordle many moons ago, I've come unstuck four times and in exactly the same way. It will always end in this way, too. It's only a matter of time.
By far the closest i could find is Guide Me in Your Truth by Dr. Antony Theodore. If so, tomorrow's starting word should be TEACH. But it's unlikely, due to its lack of 5-letter words.

Yup, 671 unique 5 letter words if you limit yourself to all lowercase, 782 if you allow uppercase but then you'd have to filter out proper nouns.) If you're right, we should expect "views", "first", "fixed", "minds", "their", "heard", "about"... Although the plurals would probably get skipped.

So it’s lucky that I use Loner, because i don’t use words for their hard mode heck detecting potential, this one just happens to have that. And if I hadn’t detected it as early as i did, i’d be a gonner.
@@EvanSawyer4 You know what? My guesses were so close to yours. Spare > Loner > Cover > Rover. I thought of Mover and decided to try Rover first, but didn't even think of Hover. And Lover was out because of Loner.
@@marilyngardner4269 That was smart. Mover is a bit unusual, it’s derived from Move rather than having its own definition (except for certain specific contexts). Rover was definitely the better play.
Broke my 8-month street. On the last guess, chose MOVER rather than ROVER. In those months, I'd only had four 6s. I'd had more 2s (only 5 to 4, though). And now it's all sunk. :)

You dont have to use a letter you know. The third guess could have been a word without an o to test more letters.
Not in hard mode -- that requires that you keep all your greens in place and include all your yellows somewhere.
For whatever reason the code for hard mode has a bug that prevents one from doing just this. I hope someone at the NYT looks at it soon.
