    35:05 I usually configure the knobs on the Mixpre10t to be gain knobs in Advanced Mode when working alone (ENG). I learned with a SD 744t so it makes sense to me not having "faders" to control, specially in doc work. Great video. Thanks!

    Shure mics were NOT the only mics used by Presidents after Johnson, If you watch White House addresses from the 1970s, those are Turner microphones, not Shure. After Turner, they switched to lapel microphones. The President uses a custom Audio Technica mic when he gives the state of the union. When Nixon gave his second inaugural address, he did not use Shure microphones. When Nixon gave his speech ahead of his trip to China, he did not use Shure microphones. I could go on. It would be more accurate to say the President used the sm57 as a podium mic with increasing frequency until it became the standard for that single application sometime around the Carter administration. It has not been the President’s “mic of choice” since Johnson as Shure claims.

    Totally agree @JamesYounger 's opinion on the Rode NT1 (not 1A!) - a wonderful mic even more considering the price. I still keep my 4th Gen NT1 even owning Neumann, Brauner,…

  • @nickynockyknackynoo2346

    I found this UNUSUAL and interesting because James came across particularly clean and clear on my Apple TV to TV, with seemingly low distortion or predominant frequencies when compared to typical streams. This is unusual. It prompts the question what gear is in use. Could be the Rode NT but interested in what else in use. Noticed the seemingly hard reflective surfaces in the background. Maybe its the voice or inflection but it seems just 'right'. Nearest description to what I hear when James speaks initially is 'lack of mud' or fuzziness, albeit slightly chesty-boomy-- but no harshness, a little roughness/ 'creakiness' in the voice, and delightfully more clean, light and airy. Finally James's voice seemed to slightly harden from halfway through onwards. Maybe break and drink would help?

    The separate Bluetooth module is a very big plus. As the industry standard for Bluetooth continues its forever future revisions there is highly likely come the day where one of these revisions is a "killer use case" for the Tascam D10L Pro, like the ability to dramatically increase range, pair with 20 devices etc. Since this is a module a user that can benefit from a new hardware revision to Bluetooth (that is the future new feature cannot be achieved by a firmware upgrade only) simply only has to swap out a module and not replace the whole kit.

    You can't teach AI inflection with feeling and compassion. That is still a human response.

  • @RolandDobbins
    @RolandDobbins Před 13 dny

    I really think that ‘AI’ synthetic audio is going to almost completely eliminate the voiceover, audiobook, narration, & voice acting sectors over the next few years. It’s getting better & better - and people are being conditioned to accept it as the norm. Video acting will be next. In 20 years, human actors will be almost nonexistent, outside of niche local theater venues. Because of the inherent social aspect of musical performance, there will still be some actual human performing musicians. But not very many, compared to today.

    I’ve been trying all kinds of combinations on dialogue for well over a year. My source material consists of recordings made in a large acoustically untreated space with different types of mics (wireless lavs, handheld dynamic mics), inconsistent mic technique, and varying levels of ambient sound. Currently, my workflow involves: (1) Audition’s Speech Volume Leveler (“Careful” setting); (2) serial passes using Audition’s Tube-modeled Compressor; (3) a gentle pass in Hush (31%); (4) import into a Reaper track, where I use a de-esser, EQ (WavesFactory Equalizer), some mild compression (usually with Waves RVox and/or TDR Kotelnikov; and (4) judicious use of a compressor and limiter on the Master track (both Sonible). Perhaps the best results so far.

    Thanks for your detailed explanation about the sound mixer. I have a Mixer 3 which I have used for years. I used with Q8 camcorder to make performance recordings. Recently , I found some electrical noise in my recording which I did not have before. I had added an audio isolator between the output of the Mixer and the input of my camcorder. However, the noise even louder. Do you know what may be the problem?

    Hello again (finally), Curtis: I have listened to your entire livestream and have learned much. I kept chatGPT available during your program so that I could stop your livestream and then go to ChatGPT and ask it what the heck did all of the acronyms mean. It answered me pretty well so that I could at least go back to your program and continue forward. Audio is very difficult and so important to one’s viewers. It was slow going-despite the fact that I’ve purchased a few of your courses and tenaciously listened to each lesson of each course. Even so, I really learned a lot and appreciate all that you do to educate us “newbies” about how to make our videos as perfect aurally as possible. I’m a lawyer with 30 years of experience in my field; it’s not easy to learn such a highly technical field, at least well enough to give coherent instructions to the audio editors I will eventually hire to edit my videos! Thanks again. Jay🙏🏼

    Hello again, Curtis. I’m now at minute 20:04 now, when you’re playing the track in which you are speaking with all kinds of ringtones popping in. I’m having trouble understanding the difference between ambiance and background. Are the ringtones AMBIANCE or are they BACKGROUND? You might answer this question later, but I thought I’d register it now. Again, I’m a “newbie,” or “noobie,” (however it’s spelled). I don’t have the “ear” of some of your more experienced audio editors so thank you for reading and, perhaps, responding to my question.

    Funny i just was during yours stream going to buy my first shure microphone. I need it for to make interviews for the European Blackmagic Event in Amsterdam. Not just for Mr Alex Tech almost as well in situations where cabeling persons on the street is not the way to go. The Sennheiser Reporter that is allmost a cardoid makes to much noise and a second advantage is this mic is a realy lightweight one. Just 99 grams. Who goes to Amsterdam as well to the Davinci Resolve European Tour? Maybe to produce something together will be nice. I see in a Reporter Mic a Dynamics Mic more advantages than to use a Condenser. I guess a Omnidirectional will be better for this Usecase.

  • @soramittenpaw2127
    @soramittenpaw2127 Před měsícem

    KSM8 has one capsule, not two, but instead has two diaphragms in one capsule. Its design is similar to multi-pattern condenser mics locked into cardioid polar pattern as the rear diaphragm blocks low frequencies and reduces proximity effect. Shure KSM42 and Sony C-80 are condenser mics that have two diaphragms but are locked into caridoid, and their two-diaphragm design is specifically for controlling low frequency pickup to reduce proximity effect. (Shure has an article titled "Dual Diaphragm Design - Control of Proximity Effect," which briefly explains how the secondary diaphragm is used to reduce proximity effect.) I believe KSM8 is designed to achieve consistent on-axis frequency response within a longer distance between the capsule and source, while NXN8 is designed to achieve consistent off-axis frequency response at different angles. NXN8's consistent frequency response at all angles should give you more gain before feedback and reduced bleed from other sound sources.

    I've had RX Standard ever since version 4. I wouldn't mind going from v 10 to 11, but I just don't want to pay 100.00 for a slightly better version of the stem splitter (music rebalance). I have Logic Pro, and that updates for free, and their Stem Splitter has the same quality as RX11's. I would still rather use RX though. If the upgrade was 50.00 I would jump on it.

I’m using Tentacle Sync Track-E body packs, so no real time monitoring. That’s a lot of audio for one-man-band productions.

    It would be interesting to record Sound Devices Noise Assist on the master buss of a MixPre II, but also preserve iso tracks without any processing. Then, contrast and compare Noise Assist with RX11 noise processing. Of course, Noise Assist is not cheap - $600 for 2 channels. If RX11 is as good, then unlimited tracks represents a good value proposition.
