If you're interested in learning more about our course on Sound for the ATEM Mini, you will find the details over at school.learnlightandsound.com... Copyright 2020, Curtis Judd
I just completed this course, and can say that at 3x the price, it would be a steal! I can't recommend it enough, for both beginners and those more experienced in sound production. The individual course modules, and the segments within those modules, are labeled clearly, so that one can zero in on areas of specific interest, and/or for replay of specific topics.
Love your F6 course and I will always get back to it. And now the cool sound course for ATEM mini just shows up, thumbs up for that! I recently use my Podtrak P8 to work with my ATEM mini pro ISO, which turns out to be the best collaboration by far...hhh
Totally buying this course! Great work. I have also just purchased the MixPre, so it looks like I’ll be grabbing both courses. Could you please recommend a suitable cable for coming out of the MixPre 3 || into the ATEM? 🙏
How do you feed music from Spotify or iTune into ATEM Mini with the highest fidelity? I currently run it from the 3.5 headphone jack of my Mac into one of the mic jack. It's kinda meh, because my I can hear a lot crackling static noise.
Hi David. I usually feed music from my phone to the ATEM's mic input with the input set to line level. Crackling is usually an indicator that there's a bad connection. Best to switch to a different cable to see if that solves the problem. Also, be careful about streaming music that you don't have a license to use - just wanted to make sure you didn't end up in trouble with that.
Curtis, I seem to be having a peculiar issue . I connect 2 cameras to HDMI 1 and 2 on the Atem mini Pro. The HDMI 2 works fine for about 30 seconds then goes black. Don’t have an issue with HDMI 1. Tried swapping cables, doesn’t help. the HDMI 2 source works flawlessly with another computer or iPad. What am I doing wrong ?
@@curtisjudd Ok, I have solved the issue. I changed the frame rates for both cameras to be at 25 frames, and one of the camera's was going to sleep automatically. Checked all settings and reset that, now all it ok. didn't think Blackmagic would have known, I should have guessed earlier. Thanks for your prompt Response, and do keep us informed. I love your videos and the depth you get into.
Hey Curtis, I am very interested in this course, but I have few questions about whether you will cover the following before purchasing 1. I have the 1202VLZ4 mixer (i see you are using 802), will you also cover it / use it as an example in your course? My biggest problem is having multiple and different types) of mic (Dynamic Handheld mic with XLR input, and Rode Wireless Go Lav Mic) through the 1202VLZ4 mixer and then to the blackmagic atem mini. Its hard to make the sound consistent 2. How to avoid feedback (Some of my Live Stream is hybrid online/offline event, so I have to deal with speakers) 3. How to reduce noise: (Eg. Rode Wirless Go directly going into Atem Mini, and I dont like the noise floor, though I am happy I learn about the Noise Gate settings with Atem Mini from you on another video ) I would def. want to support you but I want to know if the content from the course is from youtube, because I have watched lots of video, so I want to avoid any duplicate. Many Thanks.
Hi Isaac, 1) We do have a segment where we demonstrate how to feed audio from and calibrate the levels between the 802VLZ4. We do NOT specifically talk about how to "make the sound consistent." That's a more general mixing topic. 2) We do not cover how to avoid feedback in live situations in this course. 3) We do cover how to set up the noise gate. The course content is not on CZcams, it is unique to the course.
Hi Chris, just a short question: Can I connect my Rode NT-USB Mini directly via an adapter to the Atem Mini and use the equalizer for better sound quality for e.g. a Skype or Microsoft Teams session? Ciao, Rainer
You can use the headphone output of the Rode NT-USB Mini as input to the ATEM - make sure to select "Line" instead of "Mic" for that channel in the ATEM Software Control
Hi Curtis. Is it possible to get audio into the Atem straight from a Zoom Podtrak P4? Perhaps by putting the P4 into USB audio interface mode and connecting to the USB input on the Atem? Does your course cover connecting this or other audio interfaces to the Atem? Thank you.
Hi mj, no, unfortunately the P4 needs a USB host (computer or phone) so that won't work into the ATEM. The course mainly covers how to feed a mixer or a field recorder with a line output into the ATEM Mini. You can certainly use the P4 in audio interface mode to your computer if you're planning to use a stream encoding app like OBS - you can bring in the P4 as an audio source and the ATEM as a camera source. You'll just need to apply an audio offset so that the audio will be in sync with camera.
Curtis Judd Audio Thank you Curtis. One quick follow up question: what about running a 3.5mm stereo cable from one of the P4 headphone outputs into one of the Atem audio inputs set to line in mode? Is there any reason this wouldn’t work (or that you would advise against it)? I would love to stream straight from the Atem without having to depend on OBS if possible. Thanks for sharing your expertise; I am planning to take your course soon!
@@kungfukennypictures It should be possible, but I found the P4 headphone outputs to be a little on the noisy side, unfortunately. But worth a try! Set the input on the ATEM Mini to line level and give it a try.
Curtis I’m possibly interested in the course but I am familiar with all subjects you mention. I have run into an issue where coming out of a MixPre 6 ii I get good sound and sync but after 30 min or so my sync is way off. Did you run into this? Have no problem paying if it’s covered. Thanks as always
Hi Victor, I have not experienced this issue and therefore, do not cover it in the course. Does this also happen when you have the MixPre feed audio to your main camera - just curious? Probably best to contact BMD support. Best wishes!
Curtis Judd Audio no when I use the MixPre only and use AHP with 110 ms delay it’s alway right on. It’s only when I use the BM audio in Zoom. At first it’s dead on the by 30 minutes it’s completely out of sync. Thanks for the response. I’ll always support you but this course seems like stuff I already know. Thanks for all you do. Big fan
@@jtdiddy3160 Hi JT, yes, I have the Iso on order and will add to the course to cover any new features relevant to live streaming sound from the Iso version.
Hi Curtis. Would you have a way to discover why we always get a slight hum/noise on our churches live stream? We have two atems and both give us the same result. We just want to get rid of it. Thanks so much
Hi David, I would recommend testing the entire audio signal chain - that will help you identify where the hum is coming from. To do this, I'd monitor just the parts of the audio signal chain before it goes into the ATEM - does the hum/noise exist there? Which devices do you use prior to the ATEM in the audio chain? Are you using the 3.5mm audio inputs? Or are you sending the audio to one of the cameras and to the ATEM via HDMI from there?
@@curtisjudd thanks I’ll give this a try tomorrow. Here’s what’s interesting. At the beginning of our church service the audio is muted from the Atem and the hum is still happening. www.CZcams.com/bridgefamilychurch Our latest video uploaded yesterday you’ll be able to hear the noise. I tried a noise isolator with no luck, it actually made it worse (I think it was the cable). I just hear so many feeds with no issues and I want to achieve that. Thanks
@@stoochy1 One other thing you might check: In the ATEM Software Control app on the audio tab, is audio turned off for every single channel, including the cameras and 3.5mm inputs? If any of them are turned on, that could be a clue as to where the hum comes from. Also, be sure to keep all audio cables away from power cables and especially AC power adapters. May also need to test each of your audio cables to see if one of them is picking up or generating the hum.
@@curtisjudd Thanks. it's all muted except for the 3.5mm which has the sound from our laptop and microphone coming through. So it's all not muted because we have only 1 person at our media desk and trying to make it simple rather than trying to remember. we still need to isolate though where the sound is coming from :( we have our gear in a small Guitar Pedal case to make it easy to transport (we are a portable church). So cables being close to power cables is one issue but not sure the way it's currently set up if there is a way around that. We go from a sound desk to DI box, to Atem before going live. We are going to test each cable next to find the problem. its not that big of an issue but i do hate it. I want clean audio. LOL thanks for the advice
