    Thanks for your patience to those who viewed the session live - the internet was not particularly consistent for us today so I've cut together all of the best bits here. Thanks again to Michael for taking the time to provide his insights.

      Oh...I know that one!!! :) Really appreciate the effort you go to, even when everything is burning down around you, and you still make it all happen. Thank you!

      @@BasicFilmmaker Thanks Kevin. Learned some lessons...like my fiber-to-home connection isn't really 100mbit up and down all the time. The down held solid at 100, but uploads slowed to about 30 which just isn't enough for a setup like this. May need to work with the carrier to see if we can solve that.

      @@curtisjudd Huh. Mine's 150 up and down, but I had to use a repeater for my office/computer/editing/future live show area, and that gets me about 30 up and down. Be interested (probably email) on that discussion so I don't step in the poo. :)

      @@MichaelWynneCAS Thanks, Michael. Really appreciated the experience and answered questions from a pro. Yeah, I was the guy asking about the Moog. Sweet! ATL was my old stomping ground (north, Rowell/Alpharetta) for many years, and really glad to see they had the smarts to entice film production instead of penalizing it like CA. And...ya'all can't dismiss the power of a good Waffle House. :)

    Guys, I cannot thank you enough. You are all so professional, friendly and informative. I'm a recovering musician/current music recording engineer looking to pivot into production sound and the whole Quadfectra of Michael, Curtis, Allen-Sound Speeds,and Andrew-Deity are invaluable.

    Mr Judd, hi....I'm having a problem connecting my new behringer umc22 audio interface to my 2011 macbook pro, model number #A1278.I connected it, but setting the audio preference is the problem.....The built in mic on the laptop seems to be recording sound/voice, instead of the external.mic...I went into the system preference > sound etc.....turned down.The internal mic volume to mute...I noticed, that the behringer umc22 is not showing up, instead, I'm seeing ''usb audio codec'', for both input and output....I'm not given anything much to work with , in order for me to change my audio preferences......can you please help, advise, direct ,guide me?...thanking you in advance sir

      Hi Antoine, Hmm, that's a tough one. I'm afraid I'm not especially familiar with the Behringer UMC22 so I'm no expert there. Probably best to contact Behringer support. I wish I could help more and wish you the best on getting it configured.

    Interesting, Curtis. ...and next you’ll explain all the jargon, right?

    • @LearnLightAndSoundSessions
      @LearnLightAndSoundSessions  Před 5 lety

      That's a great idea. It is like learning a new language. Go ahead and reply back with the terms you did not recognize or understand and we'll start there.

    • @skakdosmer
      @skakdosmer Před 5 lety

      That's kind of hard. Not knowing the expressions (and English not being my first language) I'm not always sure exactly what I’m hearing. But some day you might make a video with all the special words you can think of. An “Explaining the Gobbledygook” tutorial. Everything abbreviated will be a good place to start.
      Was it “IBF” I heard here? (Something like that).
      Some time ago there was “DP”, which I'm now familiar with, but not everyone might be.
      “Sync” is a very frequently used term which I know, but a newcomer might wonder what it is he’s supposed to sink. Or zink?
      “Lav” is certainly not a self-explanatory word either.
      You’ll note that I’m mostly listing words that I already know, but that’s because it’s nearly impossible to recall words you’re not familiar with.
      I think it's a general problem for tutors - whether they write books, give lectures or make videos - that they often tend to forget how much it’s possible NOT to know.
      And for some reason most people are extremely shy to ask any question that will give away their lack of basic knowledge. I guess most of us have experienced schoolteachers who got nasty if we hadn’t done our homework, so there’s always a sense of danger about revealing one's ignorance.

    • @MichaelWynneCAS

      Hi Lau. Glad you asked these questions, cause there is no learning without it. I remember being confused myself about some terms when I was learning audio such as the difference between a BUS and AUX, etc.....Hopefully I can help here. Also there is a lot of jargon in the film business that goes for every craft and department, Here's some explanations for the commonly used jargon you asked about...
      IFB stands for ( interruptible fold back ) or an easier way to understand is what it does which is "transmits audio to a wireless receiver device for direct monitoring like headphones.
      Sync ( Synchronization ) Term commonly used for all TC ( Time Code ) locked devices on a film set such as synch boxes, Recorded Sound like Poly files, etc..
      Lav ( Lavalier Mic ) Commonly used microphone for talent also sometimes referred to as Radio Mic or Wire )...

    Curtis your level sounded about 6 dB lower than Michael’s level, made it a little hard to listen to. Finally I found one thing to razz you about but it took years to find anything!
    Other than that, it was a really nice interview of a totally together pro sound mixer.
