Taking a Break and Finding my JOY
I took a drive east across the prairies from Calgary to Alberta's Dinosaur Provincial Park. It's about 200 km. Once you leave the Trans Canada Hwy, it's an easy drive on quiet roads. On the way, and in the park I found so many unique and beautiful sights. It's a photographer's paradise.
If you go, take food and water. There are washrooms in the park. There are also Prairie Rattlesnakes, Northern Scorpions and Black Widow spiders so keep that in mind.

Your meter looks like my Lunasix. I got mine about 1980 though.
Yes indeed. Lunasix F - Flash meter too!
Wow, I've just found your videos and they're amazing! I can't thankyou enough for information 🙏😊
You're so welcome!
hi Marline. on my page 5/5 HDR is blanked out with off showing. When I select its it says 'This menu item cannot be set" can you please help. Thanks.
It only works with jpgs. So if you’re shooting raw files it won’t work in camera. But you can do it manually with raw files in editing software.
@ImageMaven Thanks Marline. I appreciate you helping with this.
Thanks for posting this, much appreciated! I have all the old family 8mm films and keep meaning to get them transferred to digital so everyone can see them and this was a good reminder! The quality of the scanner is much better than the old way of projecting films and filming them again with a video camera. Thanks once again 👍🙂
It scans quite well, easy to operate, and gave my family lots of laughs at our recent family reunion. Thanks for watching.
Thank you. I was trying to figure out how to turn this off forever.
Thanks!! I've been wondering why all the symbol and #'s! I'm in need for a security camera and a laptop.
I suggest getting a v60 or v90 card now. the v30 isn't really fast enough for video anymore, especially if you're shooting 4k.
can this be used for stop motion animation?
Good question. I haven't used it that way myself, but it's worth a try. Not sure if it will work for Stop Motion. Let me know if you try it.
That was a wonderful video presentation. You are an excellent photographic instructor😎
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for this interesting and equally enjoyable video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I sincerely did. What I enjoyed is your "down to earth" and "matter of facts" approach. Technical kowledge is one one that can be acquired - common senese seems to have become a thing of the past.
I hope to see a video using yellow and red (et al) lens filters to form B&W photos with clouds to produce a blackened sky.
If you shoot raw files, you can do that in editing. I did make a video with some of that info. czcams.com/video/BVRQ2jrSj34/video.htmlsi=ivD10s3iwlAU7YAw
I became a G9 owner about a year ago and I would just like to say thank you for all the time you put in to your videos that have helped me so very, very much. I hope we will see you here again.
I appreciate hearing this. I will try to make a few videos a year, going forward. Just to keep my skills.
Best Lumix channel on CZcams - Cheers!
Wow, thanks!😊 You made my day.
Marlene quick question, so I use white paper to get correct colour temperature and use grey card to get correct exposure, is that correct?
Never use white paper for white balance! Use a White Balance neutrally calibrated card like the X-Rite.
Here's a video about White Balance. czcams.com/video/NIStIIGYEZY/video.html
@@ImageMaven thank you
@@ImageMaven oh by the way I forgot to ask. It's for a short film project. I wanted to ask for interior or exterior shots is it better to be slightly overexposed or underexposed? Meaning in post production which is better and easier to correct the exposure? I'm guessing it's more easier to darken the image if I am slightly overexposed. Also if I wanted to put a lut on image this will also darken the shot I've been told. I'm thinking of using the filmconvert nitro plug in in premier pro to give it the film look.
Better ask a video expert. I'm a photographer. Don't want to steer you wrong..
I always realize when I watch somebody talking about a topic in which they are masters. Since everything looks so easy to them - they can teach way more effectively than those who learned teaching as educators with no hands-on years long practical experience in that topic.
Very helpful.
Glad to hear!
Thank you Marlene. I have got a G9 one month ago and I was looking for some information about the different monochrome modes, because I like B&W... Thanks you for your explanations. I will now proceed with my own tests.
Glad it was helpful! Have fun experimenting..
this camera does not have the copyright info option? i cant find it
That is correct.
Hello Marlene, I've already watched several of your videos. My thanks certainly for the Lumix G9 series. But I have a comment of a completely different order and that is about your last name. I think there is a letter missing and it has a Dutch, and specifically Frisian, background. Hielkema is a Frisian surname and also appears in my family tree.
No missing letter! But yes, you're right about the Frisian background.
Marlene is an excellent teacher. She is very explicit and I hope she will keep providing great instructional videos.
Thank you for saying. I'm taking a break right now. But I might be back sometime in the future.
@@ImageMaven Every hard working individual deserves a break. Enjoy your much deserved time off, Marlene.
Dziękujemy.
Thank you so much. :)
Hi Marlene, I enjoy your videos. I'm just wondering but I'm pretty sure you will know this. Lots of G100 reviews mention 1/50th flash sync but none mention HSS , I have Nissin i40 and i60 flashes and with HSS enabled I can get 1/500th and it's very effective. I'm guessing you use it for some of the action shots??.
Wow. I haven't been able to do that with my Lumix or Godox flashes. I can't get HSS to work at all. I will keep trying.
@@ImageMaven Hi Marlene, I know someone with a Godox V10 and the G100 and it works for him ?
Just a thought, I wonder if there's a sequence involved. I always mount my flash with the camera and flash turned off. H SS was already selected on the flash, then I turn the flash on then the camera.. Just a routine I have, maybe it helps them talk to each other?.
@@toxophillus72 Thank you for following up. I will try that when I get home. (Currently on holidays.)
@@ImageMaven A friend of mine couldn't get his flash working with his new Nikon. It had come with E shutter enabled , he's a very experienced photographer but overlooked it . Have a great time on your holiday ,hope the weather is kind, it's a bit rubbish in the UK.
Watching this with the comment "it is crazy times" and thinking to myself "yeah, it is crazy times", then realizing that the video is four years old and it has been crazy times since then... Anyway, thanks for the tips :) Even hear four years later it's still an amazing camera, and your videos are still relevant and appreciated :)
Thank you so much! We still have crazy times. I think it's the new norm. :(
So interesting to read about "your crazy times"... when you living in Ukraine now and after rockets attack us last night when a half of our area doesn't have electricity and you do not know will you have access to internet tommorow after new attack or no... oh, btw yep sirens go up again. need to go. But before I'll go I want to say that Marlene's explanations is best even for me non-english speaking person. Enjoy your good times guys! :)
@@rginjc it's not as bad here as with you guys, I'm in Israel, but it's not boring. Slava Ukraini!
Hi. I just came across some of your videos. Good stuff! I just bought a new (used) Nikon D5600 and lenses (Tokina 11-16mm, NIkkor 18-140mm and 55-300mm) and want to do these tests. I am going to test at various focal lengths. What would be the appropriate subject-to-camera distances? Should I just choose a distance that yields the page full frame in the view finder? Any guidance would be appreciated.
Any distance will work. But make life easy for yourself and set it up indoors. I did this in my office and I was about 3-4 feet from my focus target. But do whatever it takes. You’ll find your groove. Have fun.
@@ImageMaven Thank you!
I think that is absolutely "wonder full" that you are following your bliss as it were! I discovered recently I just need to "be" in nature more because lately I've been obsessed with capturing images and lately I started to again just absorb the beauty of wherever I am and of course there are moments that present themselves and they are all the sweeter because I'm more relaxed! So I'm taking a break too and I totally get what you are doing and wish you all the best :o)
Love this Deena 😊 Yes, sometimes we just have to “be” and it’s such a gift to ourselves. Enjoy.
New G9 user here, in 2024!
Nice! Enjoy your new gear.
Necessary 1 I've moved - at my age of 74 - changing from tennis to Pickleball - my shoulder surgeries & lose of joint cartilage ... I find it to be easer on the body parts & the folks doing Pickleball seem to be more altruistic on the line calls than in the much more competitive tennis & therein more loose & fun to be playing with. Things are not like they were 25 yrs ago but in ways that's better ! Stay safe on your travels. Ray
