    A very nice video from the field. I also take pictures from the car from time to time. It is very practical to hang a camouflage net in front of the open driver's side. Because, at least in our region, the birds often fly away when I stop. With the camouflage net in the left side window, the contours from me and the camera disappear and the birds usually remain at their place. I showed this in one of my videos, also with a DIY car window tripod, if you're interested. Best regards, Rolf

    These are some great shots. I hope you're keeping an archive of 4K video you shoot. They will come in handy someday when you have time to piece together your great shots by creating a video of the birds. In the past, I've never pulled much photo from my videos, but with G9 part of my workflow is to go through each 4K video shot to pull picks of action shots I could'nt get while video shooting. Anyway, thanks for the great G9 tips and videos with the photos of those birds.

      Hello Neon, Yes frame capture is something I've recently started doing a lot more. It's very handy. In this case my photos were really noisy as I was using a high shutter speed and high ISO. But of course the video used slower shutter speed and lower ISO, so far less noise than the photos. Worked out great and saved my shoot. And yes, I'm keeping my 4K video clips. Will be nice to look back and see how I've improved. Cheers!

    I love that you're birding now. I've been birding for about 12 years and I got my G9 in 2019 after watching your videos. Birding entails continuous learning. And there's much to learn about the feature-rich, often-updating G9, too. So, THANKS A LOT for what you do!
    Do you turn on the teleconverter for your videos?

      @ImageMaven  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Sean, Thank you for your kind words! I'm just loving birding with my G9. I borrowed a 100-400mm lens for the weekend, and I shot some very rare owls with it. You can see a few shots on my Community tab here in CZcams. Working on a tutorial soon. As for videos, I shoot them in 4K so that brings them a bit closer. Haven't tried the teleconverter yet as I've been fairly close to my subjects so far. I'm afraid it would make me very shaky. Even at 400mm I found it hard to handhold without really bouncing around. Have you used it for video? Curious to know people experiences. Cheers!

    As always, a very useful video and excellent information on the G9 as well as some very nice images to illustrate your points. Cars make a useful blind but you have to watch for possible heat distortion rising from your car and, as Steve Perry recently pointed out, even distortion caused by warmer air that may be trapped inside a deep lens shade. Thanks for all your help exploring the capabilities of the G9. I was wondering if you've tested long lens sharpness with AFC vs AFF with the motor drive? A tech checking the autofocus on one of my Leica 114's (a Lumix FZ1000 cousin) suggested that might be a better option for perched birds.

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven  Před 2 lety

      Hi Bruce. Yes, you definitely want to make sure your car is turned off and that you don't have mirage effects. Never heard about the lens shade distortion! Will watch for that. • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven  Před 2 lety +1

      Wonderful about the SEOs! I hope I get a chance like that soon. Merlins are pretty common around here. We even have them in the city. I didn't do any post on these 4K video captures. Because of the lower shutter speed of my video clips, the ISO was able to be much lower, so the 4K video quality in this case was less noisy as a result. And the light was soft and filtered through some low cloud, so the dynamic range was not too hard to hold in. Thanks for watching Sue! Always great to chat with you.

      Hi Steve, Thank you again for the coffees! Already on my second one this morning. I don't use both card slots when I'm shooting. I fill them one at a time. And I rarely shoot raw for birding. I actually did last week to reconfirm my workflow in that matter, but the jpgs were just fine. But in tricky lighting, raw is sometimes necessary. Hard to believe that I used to shoot 100% raw and never jpg. When shooting in Burst modes the cards and computers fill up with a lot of extra files. It's a huge job to keep up with all the file management. Delete, delete, delete. It's a task I do when listening to podcasts. Have a great day Steve. Always great to chat with you!

      Not sure. I’m really hoping for a successor to the G9. But the GH6 is indeed tempting. Just a bit too pricey for me at this time. My G9 isn’t broken so upgrading will not be a necessity. It’s hard not to jump on the “new camera hype” though. People have started to receive their GH6 pre-orders so I’d say keep your eyes on their first impressions as I have not used the camera myself.

    Hi Marlene! My G9 doesnt let me see focus peaking and the "peaking" option is greyed out in the menu saying "this item can't be selected". I'm in MF mode, tried M and creative movie mode and can't see any peaking appear. Any ideas why this might be? Thanks already.

      I can't replicate your problem. I've looked at the PDF owner's manual and nothing is jumping out at me. I suggest you do the same. Search "Peaking" and it will show you 17 results. You can also contact Panasonic Support. Link to that and all the owner's manuals is: eng-ca.faq.panasonic.com/app/operating_manuals
      If you figure it out, please let me know so you can help others.

    These Panasonic cameras have alot of tools you do not see in other brands.

      That's good to know Steve. I don't have much experience with other brands, except older Canon dSLRs, but that was about 8 years ago. Thanks for stopping by!
