The Altra Rivera 4: Altra's Sneaky Trainer
As a shoe that was named after the Sydney Beach. It is pronounced Bondeye. ;-)
So basically whats the best altra shoe for running performance with wide toe box, not for trail, for road, and more like the original fit?
I just want to know how comfy they’ll be while I drive my Corvette?
This review makes me want to buy these and take up trail running. Your videos are my fave running shoe reviews.
Thanks for the great reviews of the various versions of the Escalante shoes over the years!
ive seen alot of reviews showing the MAX wont last long and after 100 miles very noticeable wear on the trend?. Im return my max and going back to the ghost 16 after 2 20 mile runs the show doesnt look like it will hold up as long as the ghost 16. I have some pics of both side by side the tread on the ghost 16 seems to be 3 to 4 times thicker than the max? any thoughts? I dont want to have to buy new shoes every 3 months or less because the shoe wont last?
Does the Skyflow run narrow or wider?
Excellent video!
Super helpful video! Very thorough but easy to understand. Thanks
For someone who has a lot of width, especially in the midfoot, would you recommend this or the Escalante 3? (It looks like this one is technically wider but the upper is less stretchy?)
Are they good for an everyday walker??
Brooks Max 1 still worth 100€?
The Brooks Ghost Max 1 is a great shoe to get at a discount I would have to say.
Dont you feel the trop as it would be smaller than the front part?
What is the best shoes for planter fasciitis?
I wear wide shoes... and don't appreciate how accurate the "Clowny shoes" statement was.
The Hyperion Max 1 are reduced right now everywhere except at your store. You can get them for $100 which is $40 less than the Hyperion 2. I haven't tested out the Hyperion 2's yet but correct me if I'm wrong but the Hyperion 2 has a more traditional flexible geometry compared to the very pronounced rocker of the Max 1, which makes the ride very different. The rocker on M1 minus the plate at a extremely light weight is what made that shoe so special. The rocker is positioned so perfectly for forefoot strikers like myselff that it gives you a very fast effortless cadence. It's the best tempo shoe I've ever run in.
After just reading Road Trail Run's review of the Hyperion 2, I may have to retract some of what I said about the shoe in my prior comment. They said it's very different from the H1 not only in stack but also in ride because they added a forefoot rocker for added propulsion. The H1 had more of a racing flat feel which made the ride a little to harsh for me. This of course would make them very similar to the Max 1. If that's the case, I can't wait to try these on at my local running store. I'll report back and if their better than my beloved Max 1, I won't mind eating crow at all.
The Hyperion Max was one of my favorites and the Hyperion 2 is one of my most anticipated shoes this year. At 135 lbs., with a light foot strike, v1 gave me plenty of protection for my normal 6-10 mile runs. Thanks for highlighting the whole line; I think a lot of people are going to sleep on the non-Max versions.
Amazing review!!! I love that you address adding a custom orthotic. So helpful! I wish i lived closer to your shop. Such a great resource. Please keep the reviews coming!
What is the stack comparison between the Hyperion 2 and original Hyperion Max?
@7:00
Thanks for your great review!! I especially appreciated that you addressed the addition of a hard custom insert. I use one and many runners do but not all running shoes have the volume to accommodate it. Do you think a half custom orthotic will fit well in the experience trail? Thanks!
I just tried them on in a local shop and I don’t like the way Asics chopped the end of the toe off square almost like a pair of square toed cowboy boots I know that’s hyperbole, but it seems like the shoe is shorter overall for the size and there’s less length for your toe it almost looks like they were trying to make it more like the foot shaped shoes but all they did was chop the end of the toe off so you have less length. I would have to size up another half size to get tow room that I like, but then the ball of my foot wouldn’t be in the right spot. It would just be too big a shoe for me.

so glad they have longer laces, I literally cannot tie my 5's, and those shoes are pathetically narrow for being "original" footshape
Great for walking the Camino Norte and Primativo. Just finished and no hint of blisters using Merino socks . Intermittent tarmac roads wore the sole a fair bit though.
Which color is this - blue or navy blue?? Which one would be dark blue??
I need more colors damn it !!!!!!
These have been my go-to for several pairs now. I am an over-pronator who strikes my heel on the outside. Sounds like the changes have made them no longer a fit for me. Thoughts?
I really really liked the original Mont Blanc but unfortunately it was too easy to roll off the side. Just ordered the carbon, really hoping it is stable, the toe box looks better so this could be my new race shoe for 200 milers if it works... lets see...
Does the Racer 2 still have the same shape as the Racer 1 or did the toebox get more narrow?
The Racer 2 actually got a little bit wider we found . The Escalante models we found this year updated the fit to not be on the narrow side like the previous model.
No offense but the Hoka equivalent to the escalate is NOT the Clifton. It’s the Mach. The Clifton is more like their Torin or something like that. And between the big boys, I went with the via Olympus 2 because even though the Hoka actually fits better and has more room, and looks way way better, the altra just felt better. But altra is very hit and miss with questionable quality and durability.
Great video thank you! I love when you said “just for the record I know it’s bond-eye but I’ve been selling bon-dee since 2014 so I’m going to call it bon-dee” LOL 😂 I say it the same way!
Love it! I know I am on an island here, so I appreciate you joining me there!
just vid! just ordered!
The stone guard - integrated within the mid sole or a separate item inserted below the insole? Many thanks for the video 🙏😊
Can't wait to try this shoe, thanks for your great review as usual!
Thanks for the vid and great reviews. Is thus shoes great for flat footed people where they haveno arch at all?? Whisch hoka shoes for men for flat foot is the best?? Thanks again
Still a very informative video!! Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for
Great video. Really not sure how you got so much great information in under 9 minutes. Pretty amazing. I agree with the 10mm drop as this is a great option in the stability category for those who are having calf or Achilles issues. And.....I wear Altra's.
Thanks! Really appreciate it! There's been this big trend of brands lowering the drops in their shoes to match the trends of Hoka. It is great to see a brand sticking to that to help the people that need that 10mm+ drop.
loving the cellula. great review, subscribed.
It really is great shoe isn't it? Has been my go to for everyday walking around. Thanks for the sub!
Love your videos - so informative! After you’ve tried them, can you update us on the feel and fit: width and sizing?
Thank you! Yes, the plan is to have a full review of the shoe once we get it in and I am able to get the miles in.
all of us at hoka are very excited about this shoe! thanks for a great review!
We are super excited to have it in soon and get the miles in it! Thanks for all the support Carlos go to hear from you!
I’d watch if you’d link to it
Is the rocker the same as the Clifton?
the real issue is any review you do is going to be more of an advertisement than an actual review just because of the structural incentives involves. I still like watching your "reviews" but I understand that they aren't actually reviews. When the new version comes out you'll be more comfortable to give the previous model some actual criticism albeit very mildly. If you disagree, please link me to any review you've ever done where you said, this is not a good product, don't buy it. I would bet your response to this would be something like, if it's not a good shoe then we won't carry it in the first place, which is a fair point but doesn't entirely absolve the contradiction.
great overview.., and explanation of the skyflow.. sounds like a fun shoe
Steve is going to dee on that hill.
my dad just bought some bondi’s
Hi everyone. Like from 🇪🇸 Spain. Happy friday.
You should do a store tour sometime also I was on your site going to order the new balance fresh foam more v5? They are on a bunch of other sites but I didn’t seem them on your website. Will you be getting those in?
Thanks man, great info as always!
Asics has a similar problem with the 'split-brain' of shoe choice. Do I do the Novablast-SuperBlast-Edge Paris, or the Nimbus-Magic Speed-Sky Paris. So hard for non-elite runners to know which one to pull.
