    Given the disaster of Version 5, I'm going to hold off and wait for more reports from the trail. In the meantime Topo will continue to take market share from Altra because of quality issues.

      @RunMoore  Před 29 dny +1

      We will say that there aren't too many differences on the 6 compared to the 5. Unfortunately, it appears that it might not be time for you to return to the Olympus yet.

    Pretty bummed they didn’t go with a full outsole in this version.

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  Před 29 dny +1

      We were hoping for a little more rubber too. Unfortunately, they have kept the outsole virtually identical to the previous version 5.

      The laces are longer on our demo pairs. However, it is a sample so the final product will be slightly different.

    Had to buy a pair of the new "Ultra 6" hiking shoes midway on my thru-hike on the Colorado Trail. The first day the new added heal padding literally tore apart my heal's skin causing deep blisters and abrasions! Fortunately I had large bandaids/neosporin, duck tape and extra hiking socks. Why was this change done???????

    The tounge is also shorter & rounded! I know the Olympus 5 has had complaints about the tounge irritating the front of your ankles.

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  Před 29 dny

      The tongue is definitely softer around the ankles. No more of that poking/digging feeling from the previous tongue.

    I was hoping it would be more like the 4:s. I loved them but now have the 5:s that I feel are more shallow, the foot don't sit as planted, and they also feel less wide. Still a nice shoe that I will keep, but I dont feel as much at home in them as in the old. Same for the Paradigm 7 vs 6 actually, I like the old ones better (have worn out three pairs with over 600 miles in each pair).

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  Před 29 dny

      The 6 will most likely have the same fitment issues as the 5 unfortunately. The fit on the Olympus 6 is nearly identical to the 5.

  • @Alcofrisbas
    @Alcofrisbas Před měsícem

    so glad they have longer laces, I literally cannot tie my 5's, and those shoes are pathetically narrow for being "original" footshape

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  Před 29 dny

      This shoe definitely needed the longer laces. It was hard enough getting them tied without any fancy lacing. It was virtually impossible to tie them with the Heel Lock lacing (also called marathon loop or runner's knot).

  • @davidlynch9049
    @davidlynch9049 Před 2 měsíci +2

    Why is it so heavy? Is that for a men's size 9? If so, crazy in 2024.

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  Před 29 dny

      It is quite a beefcake of a shoe, weighing in at 12.2 oz / 345 g. It is, however, a smidge lighter than the 5 which weighed in at 12.3 oz / 350 g

  • @niraadbose6573

    Would you recommend the Timp 5 vs the Olympus 6 (or even the 5)?
    Really grateful for the Altra reviews you do!

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  Před 29 dny

      The biggest difference we find between the two is the fit. The Olympus has Altra's widest Original Fit toebox, whereas the Timp is in the Standard Fit, leaning towards the narrow side. They are both considered maximum cushion trail shoes that have a Vibram Megagrip outsole. The Timp has Altra's EGO Max midsole foam whereas the Olympus as an undisclosed foam (it would be classified as a more premium quantic). There is a 4mm stack height difference, the Olympus being 33mm off the ground and the Timp 29mm.

  • @JB-hq9yj
    @JB-hq9yj Před 26 dny

    Did they seriously go UP in weight? It’d be so easy to just do ego max to take ounces off. I don’t understand. I am happy with the 5 and found they weight much less than the weight Altra listed.

  • @robertsestito6821

    I love the 4 and 5 I have 6 pair between the two. Only downside is the sole is sticky. I'm not a runner I'm more a big dude that lifts weights i wear them for work and daily walking. I'll be buying probably 3 pair when they drop.

      We recommend checking out the Via Olympus 2, as it has the same midsole mold with Altra's more premium EGO Max midsole foam. It's also not as sticky on pavement and the outsole won't wear down as quickly.

    Question-the Olympus 5 had like a heel bumper in the heel cup that was too low to work for me. It looks like the heel padding is a bit different but I can’t be sure. Could you clarify? Thanks much!

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  Před 29 dny

      The heel pads are a pinch higher than the previous version. However, they are still quite low to where some people might still have issues with it.

    Are they good for an everyday walker??

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  Před 29 dny +1

      They are a great walker for hiking and trails. While you can use them for your everyday walker, the lugs on the outsole will wear down significantly quicker on pavement. Altra does have a road running/walking version of this model called the Via Olympus that we recommend taking a peek at. It has the same midsole mold with Altra's new EGO Max foam which gives it a softer ride. It is also an ounce lighter than the trail Olympus because it doesn't need all the bells and whistles for the trail.

    I'm curious if the new Olympus 6 has a structured heel or if it's softer, like the Topo Ultraventure, Hoka Speedgoat, or Lone Peak models. I have a Haglund's deformity, and shoes with a rigid heel structure tend to cause blisters and heel pain.

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  Před 29 dny

      Of the trail shoes out there on the market, the Olympus 6 is one of the softer feeling shoes. It is very comparable in softness to the Speedgoat, if not a pinch softer even.
