Oklahoma Motorsports Complex, the North American Supermoto Shootout.
35 degrees Fahrenheit, in the rain. The race was shortened to 6 laps as it was beginning to snow. My first time riding in the rain. Crashed out of the first moto, this is the second one. I learned that even wet tires need warmers when it's this cold out. Great experience overall, learned a lot this weekend.

If you had to do it, it'll work, but its better left as a woods bike. It's not really any better than a DRZ or a KLX with some tasteful mods. My KLX300SM is just as fast on street tires, and it wont blow up after 20 hours.

Dyno tuning and maybe upgraded camshafts coming next.
Your accent makes it sound like you're from New York City or New Jersey.
Long island, but that's a good guess
I’m interested in getting started with track days at my local kart track. Do you recommend getting a KLX300sm? Some people told me to go for a 450 but i don’t want to do a full conversion and have to deal with rebuilds
if you don't have a competitive bone in your body, a klx is great because it's street legal and can be used as a street bike as well, while other options can't. But after doing it for a while and getting good, you might want to race, and the klx is no race bike. If you get a used one for cheap, it'd be great for getting into it, and you can sell it later down the line for something faster if you need. I have thousands of extremely cheap but fun track miles on my klx and it's made me a good rider
@@nathanbaeyens2856 appreciate the feedback!!! I could see myself wanting to compete… I am going to consider all options. . Was there a go-to bike or popular choice among the people that that raced? Thanks again for the reply
Check your speedometer. It could be way off.
Reads the same number as any other klx
Doesn't seem like you were having issues scraping pegs contantly?
I did some minor weight reduction, weigh 150 lbs and had the bike in 2+luggage preload. I was nowhere near dragging peg.
Ist's in moster
Been thinking about grabbing a KLX but live in CO hearin in runs rich on the top isn't wonderful. Curious if you knew your riding weight in gear.
Do you have a link for the steel brake lines?
spieglerusa
@@nathanbaeyens2856 thank you for the fast response👍
Did you use the 300r lines from the website?
@@nx7925 klx250s brake lines are identical to the klx300ds/sm brake lines
Oh ok, thank you again.
Thinking of buying a 2024 xcw 150 to do the same thing. How’s it treating you so far?
Get a 250 or 300. The 150 is wild fun, but the gearing is too short and so are the rebuild intervals
@@nathanbaeyens2856being as I’m riding a grom right now, I don’t mind the short gearing LOL however I am curious about the top end life. I’ve seen everything from some getting 60 hours to getting 150 hours. How were yours?
@@synible My bike needed a top end at 40 hours. It takes 45 minutes to do but it costs 300 bucks
i got a mod a never seen i put harley tires on my 23 klx 300 dual sport to make a boujy somo feel to it bc i ride 90 percent on street....nice bike bro fr
your tires are what probably gets you above jh in 0 to 60 along with your mods when you are comparing others and your skill ... 0 to 60 times could very tremendously on same bike/car with different riders drivers....dope bike though fr
How many miles did you end up getting out of those Conti Attack SM on this bike? I’m guessing they last a little longer on a smaller displacement, light bike like the KLX relative to something like a KTM 696?
I did like thousands of miles on track with that tire and still got like 4000 miles out of the rear tire. I was very impressed.
@@nathanbaeyens2856 Thanks, Brother.
did you sell the klx 300sm?
Nope, it's my daily now. Street legal skids and wheelies
hell yeah! you should drop another video on it if you find the time!
@@denox420 What would you like to know about it? I feel like I've covered just about all there is to know
@@nathanbaeyens2856 just watching someone more skilled ripping around on basicly the same bike as you is entertaining for me, thats why i asked
You smoke the Duke in the twisties, the Duke makes up for it with HP in the straights. Plain and simple your lighter KLX is easier to fling around with a good set of street tires on it. Now imagine if Kawasaki made this into a 400 cc engine....Goodbye everyone!
Do you actually race the SM Circuit or is this just the style you like..... lol, I ask but IDKnow jak-sH!Te about racing & I limited on what I've seen on the Texas streets..... I see a fair number of this style bike & they look cool = yours is kool or kewler and dig all those graphics. You do all that too? Is it done w/ vinyl or other material? I'm looking at the KLX 300 right now so I stopped when I saw how different a look you have. Very nice. peace man
I race supermoto on the east coast of the US. You can see my other videos if you'd like. But yes, this bike is very capable on a race track and incredible fun due to how easy and forgiving it is to ride.
Yeah, I will be taking a look at your track stuff but I'm too old for any of that now. But as I've looked at bikes I figured one of the dual sports from the 350cc & down = which ever looks like it'll provide the most bang for the buck ! The KLX hits in my top 3 so I've been checking them out. Tonight I learned about the "SM" version & I really thought you'd bought the dual sport & modded it out, did a bunch of art, & walla.... an SM LQQKing bike? But then I double checked & saw that they sell the SM model. I'll be researching to see the key differences between these two models but I guess the basics are close to the same? Running into you might make me change from the dual sport to the supermoto so go figure? I'm off right now to learn the basic differences including prices but I'll yell at you when I check your racing out... thanks for the post... peace
Even with all those mods It has no ABS enough said.... you want to have at least 1 safety feature ABS on every motorcycle as a minimum.
Abs is for people who need a computer to brake for them 😂
Could i get a link to those front blinkers. Thanks.
100km per hr or 100miles??
miles per hour
cam and dyno stuff up?
Good win Nathan! Close n cold
Well the best i managed with the 300L was 90mph
142 on the Mountain Mile.. too windy at Mountain Box to continue....
Ready to let it go go for the Husky? Lmk
A shift lever needle made me chuckle
The air box is the most restrictive part of these engines. Air lid off, HiFlo filter, back screen cut out, tuner and exhaust with 14/45 gearing these 300's are pretty quick. I was wondering why your's was faster, seen u were 165lbs lol.
Insanity! Love your channel dude just got a 2023 klx sm like a week ago and that's how I stumbled upon your channel you're klx is super nice and I'm definitely trying to do some of the mods you got on yours on mine I like your setup and you actually know what the F your talking about so I take notes form you my dude. What other bikes do you have I see your a ktm in this video.. Stay safe
Very pretty.
I know this is very late but what road is this?
nice video! What bike is this?
My Hornet 600 showed 155mph on the speedo.. but GPS is about 144.. analogue speedo's lose a bit as the speed rises..
They lose the exact same amount regardless of the speed. It's a percentage loss. My 919 was about 10%. It indicated 160ish and showed 144 on the GPS.
That'sawesome
what a close battle
This track looks insane and you guys are fkn flying 🤯🤯🔥
Go faster
Awesome race 🔥🔥
fantastic riding🤯 what a cool track. really fun elevation changes making bikes get all loose over the crests. you put so much pressure on him and nearly got him!
Very nice, I feel like I'm there 👍
curious to see an update on your bike and how much its got on the dyno. you're the only klx owner im interested in watching ...
Not really any updates. Changed the EJK fueling, so it gets like 60mpg highway and still does an indicated 110 mph. Different brake pads, tried a new master cylinder, went back to stock. Has about 14,000 miles on it now. Valves needed to be adjusted when I did them at 12k.
@@nathanbaeyens2856 running ejk as well, no where near 60mpg. Do you get the issue where after engine is hot, if turned off using killswitch engine light comes on?
@@JorgeNX yeah, everyone that has an ejk gets that. i turn it off with a key anyways. I run the red fuel setting as low as possible now. just as fast, way better mpg. I've gone away from the project of making it as fast as possible and back towards making it a fun daily commuter.
Tastefully done, really loving this creation
Ain’t goin 90. Mine maxed at 75 downhill.
There's another video on my channel of it doing 100. That's before I modded it. It does 110 mph now. About 103mph gps
Love the graphics
Sweet graphixx
Riding footage?!?
That’s pretty bad ass, I always kick around the idea of a two stroke sumo. I had a klx too, now I ride a crf250rx at the track and woods.
what are settings for the ejk? thanks
How much $$ have you put into this bike besides the cost?
350 for the pipe, 250 for the tuner. That's basically all you need for max power. Everything else was mostly ergonomics or cosmetics, aside from the brakes (that don't really need upgrading) all in, not including consumables like tires, maybe 1k.
@@nathanbaeyens2856 that's not bad. I'm interested in a 300sm. Is it worth it?
