Ain't the gearing shorter? If so speedo gauge wont read as it should, saying because I have a 44T rear on my klx250 and it's off betwen 4-7 km/h. Let alone that the stock speedo comes off already haha. Great bike it's hard to find SM wheel's for the S.
The gearing is 1.9% longer than stock. Meaning, it actually reads slightly lower than what the OEM bike would. The front tire is also taller than OEM too, increasing circumference of the front wheel slightly, again lowering the speedometer speed. My bike is actually closer to GPS than a stock bike. Either way, I included the GPS run at the very end of the video.
OK, just an observation. I've seen other 0 to 60 runs ,mostly on the dual sport version. The others I've seen all seem to bog at about the mid point of low gear . Yours does not. I'm thinking 3 possibilities. Yours is either geared better for that or tuned better or you are better taking off from a dead stop.. like I stated , just my observation.
There are many factors that all add up. It's cold, sea level = higher density air = more power. I'm also nasty at getting out of the hole, and I'm lighter than most 300 owners, at a normal 160 pounds. The bike itself is about 20 pounds less than stock as well, with less rotational mass via smaller, lighter wheels than the ds has, and without tubes in the wheels + fresh non-oring chain. Totally opened up airbox, in air filter, full exhaust system with larger diameter header + fuel tuner. When the bike was bone stock, it did about a 6.4 second 0-60. It's a completely different bike now.
Yeah, if horsepower was the only metric you were comparing the bikes by. I will be doing an on track comparison of the two bikes later this season to see how they compare to each other.
I think this is a good trade off. Kawasaki or suzuki should have got the balls and made a 450sm and dual sport they would have smashed the market. The 300sm is a better buy imo than the drz.. new for new. I would rather have a little less power and gain a 6th gear and efi. I would say gas gauge too but from what I have seen the klx has a wonky gas gauge. I am a huge Suzuki fan but they let the drz get stagnant for wayyyyy too long. NOW if the drz400sm was the same price as the klx 300sm that would make it a really hard decision for me. I really only like suzuki and kawi.. i think their bikes are built better over all. The drz is just too long in the tooth for the price to me
very cool bike!
That's good for a 300
Pretty nippy.

Just from the sound ,I'd say you leaving at a higher rpm than the others I've seen also.
@@nathanbaeyens2856 This is good info! Thanks!
Pretty zippy I kind want one now, hopefully you wash her good all that salt is like cancer for bikes man,so glad I moved away from the snow!
So, basically, a fair amount of mods and cash and work will get it pretty close to a bone-stock DR-Z400SM.
