How do you charge the battery in the Leica D-lux 8? I haven't been able to find any charger for it other than one that charges the battery while it is in the camera.

Sensor and lens of the Panasonic LX100II with a sexy dress, new design, better software. And expensive.

The de Lux Is a great little cameras I have had a type 109 for many years at 12 megapixel it still delivers beautiful quality pictures my only problem with the camera is the dirt on the sensor that you get regularly with the In-N-Out motion of a zoom lens. It is nearly impossible to clean on your own and requires you to send the camera in for servicing this can get expensive I don’t live in a dusty environment but this camera will pick up dirt quite easily something to consider as the average cleaning here in Canada will run you about $150. If you like it and of course the Panasonic equivalent could address this issue it would be a great Camera

Nice video. I am wondering whether to get this camera. I indulge in landscape photography through fairly easy day hikes and tend to use a Q2 attached to my rucksack shoulder strap with a PD capture clip. I’d have to trade the Q2 in to get the D-Lux 8 Do you think the D-Lux 8 would be used in many situations that you currently use your Q2? I’d probably switch to my M11 for high quality landscape work.

When I evaluate these reviews I always consider the quality of the shots. Not much to write home about here…

Great video. Am quite tempted.But am struggling to see how this is a better option than my CL, which can use M, R and TL lenses, has more megapixe;s and is about the same size. The CL is the most underrated camera in history.

Just getting back into film after being inspired by the new pentax 17. My film cameras: Olympus om-2n, om-t, Pentax me super, Pz1p, Minolta xd11 and x700, and my latest aquisition a Yashica electro 35 gs (cause the pentax 17 is) Do I use them all. Well so far in my return I have shot with the yashica and the MD11. Trying to decide which to use next, PZ1p or the om2n? sitting here scanning film.

If it connects with my phone could I use it to line up low angle shots like a tilt screen ??

The Panasonic 24-105 f/4 or the Sigma 24-70 f/2.8? Video is my main purpose.

Is this lense good for indoor?

The Grand Canyon shotd at 05:20 are a great example of why DSLRs are having trouble against modern cellphone cameras that us "computational photography" like the Google Pixel 6a. Those pictures look like schma. Dark, dreary, overcast schma. You need a 64" monitor to even begin to make those look appealing. A 6a in HDR+ mode would take phenomenal shots of those scenes even under cloudy conditions. With an "accurate" DSLR you need light. From somewhere. Either in the scene or in post. No light, you get schma. With light the canyon area would colorize nicely but then the sky would be bright and hazy. You then ned a haze filter to get the sky clear. The canyon is simply not lit well here so it all becomes "shadow" and the 6a would fix that in the camera in HDR+ mode while preserving most of the cloud layer and it would look awesome.

Great video. Got the AE-1 in 1979, before a trip down the Colorado River and Grand Canyon. When I got back had the images converted to slides (remember those?). Last year had those slides converted to digital. Something endearing about those images. A certain “nostalgic” look.

Enjoyed your video and connected with your views. Over the years I have used the LX series of Lumix cameras, finishing with the LX100 which I finally wore out. My fun photography is travel and the LX100 was an incredibly powerful tool and I have even had images published which were taken on it when it was all I had to hand. I have a collection of 'serious' cameras but found that the LX100 is, to me, the best camera I have ever owned and used. Of course a large part of its secret was the Leica lens. The camera is not longer made so I was delighted to see that Leica have decided to update and 'Leicaise' the camera with the controls and menu system close to my Leica Q3, which is a great camera but not nearly as easy to use as would be a DLux8. My camera store is contacting me soon, I hope, to advise that my DLux8 is ready for me to collect.

Oh gosh, Leigh. I'm loving my Z7 with its nifty 50mm MC (macro) lens BUT shouldn't I have a fine, Leica camera in my life once! The first time I saw a Leica was in 1970 at Forester Pass on the John Muir trail. I was carrying a Nikkormat FTn with a 50mm f/2 and a 200mm f/4 (both still in my film camera box) and a hiking group passed me carrying a Leicaflex SL. Now I'm carrying a Sony RX100 VI while hiking but I am a point in life where I will hike slower and observe more. I think the Q3 could replace my RX100 while out hiking, and if weight is a problem, I could leave at home a sleeping bag or leave a tent or take less food.

I bought the D-Lux 7, and the shutter speed dial goes to 1/4000th. The D-Lux 8 only shows 1/2000th, yet the content providers on CZcams are claiming the D-Lux 8 shutter tops out at 1/4000th. Who has the right answer? And why might Leica make this downgrade change?

The F6 is the last film camera Nikon will still do maintenance and repairs on, so that’s another good reason to get one. Good idea to get it cleaned and checked by Nikon while you still can!

I enjoyed your video because I very recently visited a Leica dealer in Washington, DC, (the only camera store with walking distance of my Capitol Hill hotel) to buy a CFexpress card, and it was like walking into a Mercedes dealership. I was extremely impressed by the cameras and lenses. Unfortunately, they were all out of my price range, as are most Mercedes cars.

I have a lot of the same cameras in my collection, but definitely not the F6. Not sure I can justify the cost. I do have 2 AE-1's, an N65, N80 and FG. Also have a Minolta XG-1, Olympus OM10, Ricoh XR-P and several P&S cameras. I'm listing them to say, I've shot with them all and the nicest images I've taken were with the N65 and the most enjoyable to shoot is the Ricoh. These are two of the cheapest cameras I have. Proof, at least to me, that it's not how much you spend, but how much you enjoy using the camera.

enjoy the D-Lux 8 Leigh! It is the quintessential LX100 / D-Lux. For those who have used these cameras, there is a lot to love about them. They are such a joy to use, and so small you take it everywhere = more photographs. While some wanted to see a sensor upgrade to the (25.2mp) , the Leica zoom lens is likely optimal with the current sensor - which is still great. Looks like Leica has brought extra refinements to the overall package. Would be great to see a clip of some of the shots you take with it, to show what is possible with such a simple setup.

I got my lens used on eBay for $800 in great shape. It’s very heavy for me but as long as it does what I need it for then I don’t care. It’s going to be on a tripod so I can get great photos. Great video. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. ❤❤❤

II started 2024 returning to film . Still have two Spotmatics(m42), two Canon A2s. Both working but not in use yet. I’m currently shooting with a Bronica S2, Mamiya 645 1000s, Leica M3 and shooting my first roll through a recently acquired Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta 530/16. I have a new appreciation for medium format.

Had the D-Lux 7, sold it for the GR3x. After reviewing the images taken with the D-Lux 7 and remembering its versatility for street, I just ordered the D-Lux 8 for travel and EDC. It won’t replace my Sony A7Cr or A7Rv, but those are for projects, and usually stay home for EDC. The GR3x? Hmm, let’s see if I’ll miss it.

Canon AE-1 with 50mm F 1.4 June 1979. still in use from time to time.

Much better than my Panasonic LX100M2.

For me it has been a great disappointment. From 24mm to even after 35mm the edges are blurry, even closing the diaphragm there is no notable improvement. And the other scary thing about the lens is the distortion that cannot be corrected with a simple click. I prefer to use a 28 and a 50 AI, saving me money and an abysmal difference in quality.

Hate to be a Debbie downer but you could have been doing this the past 6 years. This is just a rebadged Panasonic LX100 II from 2018 with a few minor upgrades. What iPhone is that at 5:46? Ive never seen video that bad from an iPhone. What settings are you on? Obviously not using the BM app either.

Arround 1985 I bought a Contax 159MM. The most used lens on it is the 85mm f/2.8 Carl Zeiss Sonnar and second comes the 28mm f/2.8 Distagon. Together with that a Contax T2 (which has a 38mm f/2.8 lens) and is a brilliant autofocus camera. Nex to thos I still have three Hasselbald: 500 C/M, 500EL/M and 2000 FC with a couple of lenses. All of these are still in use, not frequently but in use. One of the cameras I do not have anymore is a Horsemann 6x9 fiels camera - and I regret selling it.

Honestly, who cares about DX lenses, when there is literally no disadvantage to using full frame lenses
