Selling to KEH may make sense if you operate a business. As a hobbyist, selling to KEH is nuts. Every single used camera store in my area would offer me more.
I love their selection and I appreciate their repair team but I would never sell anything to them.
I dont miss my Z7. I loved the size but it was slow to focus in events. Outdoors, it was fine and light to hike with and for landscapes, it was great. I had to use a diff cam for events
Same here, I sold the amazing 200-500 over the summer to plan for the 180-600 in 2024. Tough decision but I'm planning ahead. Also sold my Z6II, an even tougher decision(!) since I have the Z8 now and will surely add the Z6III next year. Lastly my 85 1.8 went, because I was always reaching for the 105 MC instead.
All went to KEH - they make the process so easy, fast, and their prices are very fair. Much better offers than others, and I compare at least 3 for each sale.
I'm not sure I've ever owned a camera or lens that I considered "bad", but I've certainly done my share of buying and selling. Two significant changes occurred when I switched from Nikon APS-C bodies (the D3100 and D7100) to full-frame Nikon DSLR's (a couple D750's, and a D850). I certainly sold several APS-C lenses at that time. When I sold the D750's as I moved to mirrorless (Z6ii and Z7ii rooming with the D850), I also began selling some very nice f-mount full-frame lenses. I now have the Z8 and Z9 at which time I began collecting Nikon Z mount lenses. I consider myself a resolution snob as I want the sharpest photos that I can create. Yes, I constantly try to improve my technical skills with the cameras, but I love having great equipment to shoot with. The D850 was certainly a wonderful camera, and I loved the Z7ii in spite of its autofocus compromises, but I'm very happy with the Z8 and Z9 and my growing arsenal of Nikon Z lenses (currently six with room for a couple more). My personal rule is that if something is sitting on my office shelf with little use, then it's a candidate for sale.
I tend to sell my older gear as I update my mirrorless range, I no longer have any DSLR's - all sold, and just a handful of f-mount lenses, such as fisheye and 300PF, as these have not yet been replaced in the Z range (although I have the 400 f4.5). I'm aiming to sell my first Z6 as new were models appear - the Z8 is a gem, and I still appreciate my other Z6 and Z6ii, which will stay most likely until the Z6iii !
I have been through the 35mm film era and everything since, so not yearning for retro - just looking to the future for the latest increase in image quality and support in achieving this
I guess a similar journey to yourselves - thanks for so many informative and delightful videos
Fujifilm XT-2. Loved it in the hand. Hated it in use. The AF was hit or miss. I'd place the focusing box on a person's face and find out after the shoot that it had focused on the background. That sort of thing. I used it for photography and videography.
I sold my D850, 200-500mm and a couple of other f mount lenses for the Z-9 and the 100-400mm Lens. I love the combination. I have just received the 180-600mm and it seems just as sharp as the 100-400mm. So the 100-400 may be the next one to get passed on. My second bodie is the Z 7II and I can't really justify selling that for the Z 8. I think that the combination of Z 9 and Z 7II is good for me. Just as an aside, my main interest is aviation photography. Z 9 for air and Z 7II for static shots and bigger, slower moving planes.
I used to have a Sony S60 point and shoot, which I enthusiastically used in full "auto", until it stopped working after more than 60.000 photos. I was a avid photopgrapher, but never really learned photography until that time.
I then contemplated buying a system camera, but found it quite an investment and doubted my skills to operate one, and settled on the Fujifilm X100F instead. It is certainly a good camera, but was really the wrong camera for me as the fixed photo length was too limiting for my use. I sold that camera about a half year later, and got a Sony A7Riii, which really triggered me to learn photography and try to get the most out of that camera.
So I was glad to sell the Fujifilm X100F, as the Sony A7Riii really triggered me to learn photography which certainly made it a greater and more serious hobby for me, and ever since I have been taking better photos and not only snapshots.
My nikon d810....and got a sony a7r ii....I found the d810 had lots of features I didn't use and sometimes a little to complicated to use
I won't sell my old D300, because it's the camera I take out in the rain. It's supposed to rain this weekend, so I'll probably shoot with it then. I need to sell some of my collection, but I take all of them out and shoot occasionally. Everyone needs a camera that they'd take to the beach on a windy day. For me, it's the D300. So far, it's still working perfectly despite the abuse.
I have recently sold a camera kit to KEH using your code (nothing fancy). The experience was not positive with KEH cutting the buying price by 40% compared to their online quote and despite agreeing on the condition. It took three exchanges for them to comply with their own rules.
I bought into the L mount for a few specific lenses. The lenses were great but never really found any advantage over the Z/F/M43 systems so I sold it all and have never missed it. The Lightroom Catalog and Meta Data is a great motivator for Gear Aquisition Syndrome and has saved me from the "Buy Now" button on more than a few occasions.
An old D5500 with 70-300 lens that I had honed my DSLR teeth on, and a more recent (amazing) Z6ii with a Sigma 150-600 Sport (The Wonderful Beast) went to a local camera store to partially finance my new, amazing Z8. And I’m on the list for the 180-600.
And yes, I had got quotes from both KEH and MPB. Green Mountain Camera did better than both.
only about 2 weaks ago i tried keh and then mpb. i was thinking about selling a fuji cam and mpb offered by far the best deal. i'm talking an xs10 and about a 200 dollar difference. mpb is the way to go. also, good vid as always leigh
I have a hard time trying to get rid of my Nikon one gear. I know how compact it is. But the picture quality always needs something to be desired.
I sold all my Nikon 1 system bodies and lenses, I have since regretted this, having tried other 1'' sensor systems and not having the same experience. I am now busily sourcing replacements, so far I have regained a V1, J1 and J3, (I was never happy with the V2) and of course a clutch of lenses and the adapter and sweet little flash unit. These all are very pocketable and for me the IQ is far superior to the other systems I dabbled with.
I sold some Olympus OM (film) lenses and Bronica lens. Yes sad, but sort of comforted myself by saying that I wasn't using them and hopefully someone will use and enjoy them and possibly discover the joys of using film
I sold a Nikon D7000 with the kit zoom and a 35mm 1.8 DX and a Sony RX100 III, and used the proceeds to buy a Fujifilm X100V. There’s still an interchangeable lens camera in my future - maybe an XT-5? But for now, I’m happy!
The A7R4 (which I still own) is so slow both from a booting up standpoint, FPS standpoint and buffer standpoint that it's useless for many photography types. I use it for portraits and landscapes exclusively now due to the amazing megapixels. I use my Z8 for everything else.
Did you sell your Nikon D780? I am thinking of getting one. I found one new for $1,300 (body only).
Great video!! Sometimes you just have to let it go...I said good riddance to my Fuji APS-C gear and went all full frame....L mount and some Leica
You spoke about your D300s but all the pictures while talking about it are credited to a D500, huh?? BTW the blonde hair suits you way better. I recently picked up a D300s with a shutter count of 2,900. Back in 2011 I bought a D7000 which meant upgrading my complete gear as up to that point i only used film, I wanted a D300s at the time but was double the cost. Fast forward 12 years and found a mint D300S with a 16-85 for only $300. Love the camera and better in so many ways than the D7000 which never seemed to focus on what I wanted and was always soft, foreground or background always seemed to be super sharp but the subject rarely. The D300s has accurate fast focusing, always sharp and the build quality is second to none. I know it is old technology, low light performance is not great and can get a lot of noise above 800ISO but all of my shooting is outdoors, sport, or nature photography and this works great. Not sure if I like mirrorless as I like to see the actual scene not on a 'tv' screen when I am looking through the viewfinder.
The Sony A1, I returned it for a full refund with the 200-600. Those dials ripped into my fingers and the photos were nothing special. My Z9 photos totally outdid that A1. No regrets!!
I bought a Nikon 55mm f/1.2 non ai lens which is a 50 year old lens. I bought it from keh and it looks brand new, It is always on my Z5 or Z6ii. I buy all of my Nikon non ai, ai ,and ais lenses from keh.
I invested in the latest iPhone and beyond that I‘m having fun with a light and small Leica Cl (digital) with Leica, Voigtländer and Sigma lenses after selling all my Sony gear, and a Minolta film camera from the early 1980ies. Don‘t really need more.
I am also glad I sold my D610 because like you...I found it annoying how all the focus points were grouped in the center but other than that it was a stellar camera, amazing battery life. Second was probably my Fujifilm system. I like their cameras, but I didn't care for their sensors that much and I know a lot of people do and that's fine but I just wasn't impressed and maybe part of that was because I was coming from full frame. I also didn't like that I needed to use another program to edit the photos because of the x-trans looked terrible in Lightroom, It added another step in my workflow and so I was glad to sell it and finally go back to Nikon and this time the Z system which I really like. Although...I am curious about the new Panasonic S5II.
I love our Nikon Z system but the Lumix S5 II is an amazing body - natural colors like Nikon but a HUGE lens selection with all of the L mount lenses!
@@LeighAndRaymond I was considering switching but I don't know if it would be that big of a difference. But I do like some of the L mount panasonic lenses they offer that Nikon doesn't offer. it's tough.
I sold all my Nikon gear to KEH for Leica gear. Earlier this year I bought my first Leica (Q2M). Loved the results. Then I tried out the SL2 and loved it and bought it. Good bye Nikon, it was a nice 8 years of memorable images, but I really really enjoyed Leica.
Well... D300 might have been your "favorite child" but the D2X is still rocking, used it last weekend in the Black Hills, and today my new to me Sigma 8-16mm for some lansacape work arrived from KEH. That and a a Nikon 12-24mm. The D2X has a special place in my heart, and other than the other D2X I have, and the two D2Xs bodies, everything else went to KEH, or is in the process of doing so, Need cash for a 150-600 and a 50-500 :)
I'm glad your'e still using it!!
@@LeighAndRaymond Still my favorite Nikon body of all time.:)
Hi Leigh: Great video! I love your efforts producing fantastic video. As a professional photographer located in Prescott, AZ area I started selling my camera gear and purchasing new gear. I was speaking to my Accountant regarding the new law that forces companies like Ebay, KEH and others to report to the IRS via a 1099K Form what I sold and earned in that sale. The problem is with all the gear I have been selling I am worried that, when EBAY and Reverb sends me a 1099K at the end of the year, it will be considered as income. If I can locate all the purchase orders, great...but if I can't then it may be a bit more challenging trying to prepare my tax returns on my business. I also, a performing musician and sold much of my gear to purchase new gear. Dang, I am spending a lot a time getting ready for my 2023 tax filing. Selling gear is great and I do a lot of it. But, with the new reporting requirements it is going to get crazy. As an fYI you might wish to speak with CPA as well.
Luckily, I have a good accountant because I agree - bookkeeping and taxes take so much time!!
I sold my sony system only because I really didn’t like the menu system it used. I suppose it wasn’t that bad but I had been a Nikon user for many years and went back to it!
I’ll buy from KEH, but I sell on eBay so that I get more for it, reducing the cost for the “new” gear.
Had 6 reds and sold them all. I exchanged them for 12 IPhone 15pros 1TB. No regrets!
I love my Nikon D610.😅
I'm confused. You said you sold the D300 used in the Poker' BW shots but the image says the D500 was used.
Oops - typo. We also had the D500 but the D300s was used for those photos.
OK never mention this in you videos or YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM CANON. But I dropped Canon after 20 years when I noticed my Canon EF lenses on a EF-RF adapter kept the Image Stabilization on whenever on. On a EF DSLR it would only engage when you pressed the shutter button but on a R body such as the R6 it stayed on as long as the camera was on, thus wearing out the IS on the lens. So when I discovered this and after searching if I was the only case and discovering I was not the only one, I decided to sell my extensive EF lens collecting and break up with Canon. They are aware of this flaw and YET the do nothing about it and upon that discovery, THAT WAS THE FINAL STRAW! I decided to go with Sony and try them out and sell almost all my Canon lenses.
I'm so very careful in my purchases that I've never sold anything and I can't foresee wanting to sell anything. I'm thinking about pruning my collection of vinyl record albums in the near future, but all my photo gear will stay with me indefinitely.
I should have added that my gear is *film* gear and not easily replaced. My digital gear doesn't amount to much and will be discarded when it no longer works.
I regretted selling my Nikon Z 20 mm f/1.8 S so I bought another one. Now, I am regretting selling my Nikon Z 14-30 mm f/4 S and I will eventually buy another copy in the future.
Well after nearly 20 years I divorced and sold all things Nikon-- film and digital systems with lenses. I migrated to Fujifilm X system for a while but my Nikon D700 had made me desire full frame and so I eventually unloaded all of that Fuji gear after several years. Now I am on my third significant other, Leica.
I'm about to say good-bye to my Sony 24/1.4 GM because I almost never use it. I have that focal length within the zoom range of 4 other lenses. (2 full frame, 2 aps-c). KEH offered me half the new price for it. So did B&H. But I'm going with KEH because they've otherwise offered higher value for my sell-offs.
keh always lowballs my sell. Never to keh
I don't know that I've ever regretted selling any of my gear. Even my old D7100 - which I used to photograph my first in-person rocket launch... and take pictures of NASA's then-administrator Charles Bolden... held no special place in my heart. Am I dead inside? 🙂
I always use my tamron 24-70mm F2.8 when i shoot families and yes i have to stop down to as far as f8, and a tamron 70-200mm F2.8 for individual shots, sometimes couples. With my Nikon Z6 now Z7.
I'm a gear Hog and have trouble parting with old gear.
But I wish i'd sold my Sony A7 before it died ... 🦘
