    As a 70 year old photographer (hobbyist) I didn't realize how "good I had it" back in the 70's I loved my Pentax ME Super 2, then my Nikons, then my Pentax 6x7..those were the days. My last camera was the Nikon D5600, loved them all, maybe I'll get back into the fun.. I just need to buy a "new" camera. Good video, thanks for sharing!

    My first camera was a Nikon F2 - I loved it - shot with it half around the world. I still have the Nikon F3 (purchased after the F2 was stolen).
    I have not shot the F3 for several years, currently using Nikon mirrorless. Just recently though, I took out my F3 (I’ve always loved the look and feel of it). I’ve decided to see if I just might enjoy shooting film again (using my F mount 50mm f/1.8 prime). We’ll see… It should be fun getting reacquainted with SLR shooting.

    Great review of how to use film camera. Just wish there were more developing labs locally. I guess we need to really learn how to scan our photos so we can show and print them. I shoot fully manual on my Leica CL digital as I was an original film user.

    Love this . After getting the Canon FTb from a friend free after her dad passed away will be learning manual and shooting film . Will have to find if the exposure meter still works when i get a battery .Mercury Eligo now . Looking to shoot Fuji 400 , 200 , Kodak 100 this summer . Will have to get the camera cleaned when i can afford it . Still kicking myself that i dumped my tried and true Nikon F 80 but learn the hard way i guess .Enjoy shooting this year all .

      Just to add , Stopped in to Camera Traders in Victoria BC Canada , tested the exposure meter on the Canon FT b and it works , got two MRB625 (1.35V) batteries . And 5 rolls of Kodak Proimage 100 ISO Film . The cheap is not cheap but have all the time to play till i get used to this camera .Take time with the tripod as i go way to fast . Shot 200 shot with the Nikon D-800 two days ago on the breakwater .

    I love my film cameras. I have an extensive collection of Olympus, dating back to 1951. And I love using rangefinders most of all.
    Sadly, after being an avid photographer, a period out of work means that I have many undeveloped films, and that's a massive disincentive to shoot more. This video may be the incentive I need to make solid plans to clear my backlog, and get back to basics!
    Thanks yet again, Leigh.

      Film can be pricey between the film itself and the developing. I do have a few videos coming up where I do digital photography projects that feel and sometimes look like film photography. I think it's a good in-between for folks that don't want to or can't shoot film. :)

    Day before yesterday, I went to Lake Crescent in the Olympic National Park and took some digital photos as I walked along Barnes Creek and the Barnes Point loop trail by the lake. Lake Crescent is close enough to where I live that I can visit season after season, year after year, decade after decade. I came home and compared the digital photos I took that day to photos I took at the same locations on my Nikon F2, FM, and EL2 film cameras from 26 to 37 years ago. (Surprisingly, not much has changed at these locations, only subtle changes). True, the old Nikkor lenses aren't as sharp as today's technical masterpieces, but the old photos have an enchanting, dream-like quality. The First Nations people called this lake "The Lake of a Thousand Moods". For me, it's also The Lake of a Thousand Memories, with the times I went there with friends and family, some of whom have since passed away. These old photos wonderfully enhance my memories. I miss the old Kodachrome 25 which is no longer available, but I'll take along a film camera the next time I visit the lake. What do you recommend for a good color negative film stock?

    • @LeighAndRaymond
      @LeighAndRaymond  Před 2 měsíci

      Wow - thank you for sharing that! I want to get up to Olympic so badly. For color, I just loaded a roll of Kodak UltraMax 400 into my FM3a but I am looking into other film stock too - things that are maybe a little off-beat, like Harman Phoenix. :)

    I used the Nikon FM2 and FE with 20mm, 35mm, 105mm and 180mm lenses on a climbing and walking expedition to Canada (Columbia Icefield, Athabasca Glacier) back in 1983. Fantastic cameras. I have always regretted selling them.

    • @LeighAndRaymond
      @LeighAndRaymond  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Bummer. Selling gear is such a double-edged sword. Do you at least still have the photos from your trip for the memories?

    • @markbrigden8972
      @markbrigden8972 Před měsícem

      @@LeighAndRaymond Yes Thankfully. It was a Royal Airforce Expedition UK. it was a 4am start to summit Mt. Athabasca snow and Ice Climbing. That kit was so versatile. I am in the process of getting a FM2 and a 35mm lens. I was taught to develop and print film in a photography club in school at 11years young. A very talented RAF Photographer passed on of his knowledge. Getting film through the airport was fun. we had bags that film was placed in and protected them from the X-ray machines.

    I came from the Canon AE-1 Program world as was never so happy to jump to the digital world with the advent of IBIS and OIS to compensate for my shaky hands 😊
    That being said, my son’s girlfriend uses a film camera. So question/comment. Is the resurgence of film applicable mostly to a younger demographic and
    Do does film still have a commercial application ?

    • @UnconventionalReasoning
      @UnconventionalReasoning Před 2 měsíci +1

      While the younger demographic is leading the charge, I think there are some niche commercial applications. The one I have heard of is a wedding photographer using film only.

      @LeighAndRaymond  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Agreed. I've seen some film photography for weddings and other one-off occasions or for fine art, but film is so costly and time-consuming that I don't believe it is used for commercial work very often.

    Cost of Film and film developing is too expensive. Once in a while experimenting with film photography is okay and scanning your negatives is fun. I own a Canon K2 film camera with 28-105 mm lens and is fun to shoot. Photos come out perfect

    • @UnconventionalReasoning
      @UnconventionalReasoning Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes, I agree. I bought a film camera a few months ago for special uses, mostly for color slide film. I did cut a corner, getting a Nikon autofocus SLR. It can use "G" lenses, which the Nikon Z mirrorless cameras can also use.

    • @LeighAndRaymond
      @LeighAndRaymond  Před 2 měsíci +2

      It is definitely costly. I am having fun doing the Summer of Film but I certainly wouldn't use film exclusively. I do have a few videos planned where I do digital photography projects that incorporate the look and/or feel of film photography!

    I have a drawer full of exposed undeveloped B&W film. Do I even care what I took photos of twenty five years ago? NO! I keep them just to remind me that my interest in photography has died. I only came here because the algorithm sent me here. I guess it thought I was still interested.
