I was in a group being taught photography similarly. He was on a stage with only his camera. We all looked at each other. Then he stepped off the stage and began getting images of the floor and other places, mostly at the cracked tiles in the floor. And my God, they were great. I tried it outside in a nearby parking lot and buildings. And i thought I would learn nothing… but I did.

Thanks, yeah it kind of is encouraging to watch this and trust ourselves, which helps in opening up and ending up getting some good images.

I think this video covers the idea and intent well. Thank you for suggesting and explaining it. Happy New Year, by the way.

My Mom spent her career as a nurse on a psychiatric unit. Creativity, for sure. Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy them.

When I was in College (Colorado Mountain College) studying photography, we had one assignment something like this. We got an object that we had to sit down and never touch but get 36 different looking photos. (36 because a roll of film was 36 exposures.) My object was an egg and I thought this would be easy but it actually took three times before I was able to complete the assignment. It was hard but I learned so much. Thanks for your channel.

I think this is genius! I have been an avid amateur photographer for about 7-8 years. Mostly wildlife, nature, macro, and my family.
I love this idea!! I think it reminds me that it is ok to try different things with a subject such as photograph or focus on just part of a subject or change the position of the light source.
I always enjoy your videos, but I just thought this was a great idea!!
    Thanks for the great videos!

Speaking of off-kilter, it can be worth trying out deliberately, e.g. orienting the horizon along the diagonal of the frame and lining up a tall object so it points into the other corner (upper for trees/buildings, lower for reflections on water, etc.), or lining a group of friends up in ascending/descending height order and aligning the top of frame with their heads.
Many of them will, of course, end up not looking any good unless also displayed off-kilter, but you may find something it works for when displayed frame-level.

I'd like to see more like this. I always feel that I'm a rubbish photographer as I don't think that I've a creative bone in my body. sadly. I have great gear but not a great imagination. I'k always seeking help. My problem is lacking the confidence to actually go out and shoot !

Introduce creativity with forced parameter limitations.
Instead of having cutting edge do everything plus sensors with huge megapixels…
How about revisit owning a cheap Nikon D700 and D300s
    grab a Nikon 50mm F1.4, a Tokina 100mm F2.8 atx pro and a cheap Nikon 35mm F1.8 dx or a 35mm F2D and go street walking…
    Black & white shoots eh?
no zooms, no lights, just eyes and feet, a picnic in your rucksack and hike…
I know, I know, you Americans find it hard to not use the car…
get on a bus, get on a local train if you have them, get on a tram…
explore and use your feet as the zoom 🎈❤️👀👈🏻😂
    F2D or 50mm F1.8D for B&W etc

When you live in a single state whose area is as large as all of the UK and only has a population of a few million, cars become rather necessary. There is a big difference between an American saying they live "in the country" vs. a Brit or Scot saying they live in the country. A 20 minute walk to the mailbox may not be unusual in New Mexico, and it might be a 45 minute drive to a grocery store. Just the "lower 48" states cover an area 33x the size of the UK.

@@OriginalWatchcow I hope you appreciate I was lightly jesting, not meaning to be derogatory. As a Brit I envy your immensely cheap petrol with low taxes on it… one day we’ll all have a Tesla 🫵🏻😜👀❤️🎈
