Even with some weight gain, I wish Sigma did 24-45mm instead. 28-45 range really doesn't overshadow 35mm 1.4 by much! If I really need zoom range, I rather stick with my Tamron 35-150MM 2.0-2.8.

They don’t make this for my ecosystem (Nikon) but they might one day. It’s so good to see these options no matter what systems they are for.
    Thanks for the video.

If they would have made it a 24mm - 50mm 1.8, it would have sold like hot cakes tbh

They could but it would be a 1.5 kilo lens.

Since this lens appears to be essentially a scaled up version of the venerable 18-35mm f/1.8 Art, this does make me wonder if we see a 60-110mm f/1.8 in the next few years! Those two would be quite the pair! Throw those two and a 50mm f/1.2 in a bag, and you are golden! Honestly, I would probably skip the 50 and go for a 135mm f/2 or f/1.8 prime for just a bit more reach!

Really quick before watching the video I'm struck by the beautiful rendering of the lens that captured the studio segments. What lens was this shot with?

Hi, thanks for the video. This is not a lense that is available for my platform but it's interesting to learn about the new developments.

I shoot lots of gigs on the Q2 and SL2 with a 50mm.... This would be a perfect lens for close up stage work where 1.8 is so helpful with the ability to zoom into a face or instrument but just one body! I have the Sigma 18-35 on my C70 and love it... So pleased this zoom range is now available for Full Frame !

The big Panasonic / Leica bodies make this lens feel smaller than it is. Imagine trying to shoot with an A7CR.

I'm pretty comitted to primes, and came to L from Fuji, but I do like to have zooms which are either very long and light or very short and bright, so I'll be getting this when there is a good deal, though it isn't of high priority/urgency. It would be particularly good with a Blackmagic studio setup, so I'd imagine all the corporate videographers and youtubers will get one.

I feel like I'd miss having more on both ends of the zoom range, wide and narrow, with this lens, so I'll be sticking with my 24-70mm f/2.8 lens for years to come. I am however, thrilled that a full frame zoom lens with a constant f/1.8 aperture exists now, so this might be a fun lens to rent one day, especially for street photography.

Look mum, a prime lens with a zoom ring!

I use the Sigma 35mm f1.2 quite a lot and think it’s amazing for many different shooting scenarios. I still find it somewhat restricting and wouldn’t mind having the option to be able to manipulate the image a bit with a zoom, so I wonder if this 28-45mm could somehow replace it. Do you think they’re roughly in the same league image wise?

The new zoom is sharper and more contrasty at f/2 than your Sigma f/1.2 prime at f/2.

The zoom range is that small, that a zoom makes no sense at all.

Covers three primes in one lens. That alone makes sense.

This strikes me as a video lens primarily. They should make his companion the 45-105/1.8. For photographers Sigma has to make a 20-45/2.0 and a 45-135/2.0 . That is a duo everybody would invest in even if their price was 1500$ per piece.

On Canon RF you have the amazing 28-70 f/2, but it is a CHONKER of a lens, and very expensive. I have wanted to know if Canon could similarly build a lens with maybe less of a zoom range, but smaller and more affordable. Good to see Sigma putting this out there... Your move, Canon.

Good review enjoyable to watch. As you had said the lens is good depending on your needs. However, for getting the best possible quality for commercial use nothing can compare to Leica SL APO 28mm, APO 35mm, APO 50mm, APO 75mm and APO 90mm.
    Cheers! 🥂

28 is not wide enough .....24-120 1.8 would have changed the game
