  • In this video, Craig (Lead Tacoma Powertrain Engineer) breaks down the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacomas i-FORCE powertrain. He shows us some of the improvements made over the out going generation to both the frame and transmission, along with letting us know what preventive measures they took to make this new 2.4L turbo as reliable as they possibly could.

Or something.

    The issue with forced induction is specific to SMALL GAS engines. I’ve heard the argument “million mile turbo diesel” but the problem is that smaller displacement engines simply cannot handle the extra boost pressure over long timelines. They’ll all need to be rebuilt at 100/150k miles. There’s just scientifically no chance that these will last anywhere near as long as the NA v6, which will probably outlive most of us. What you’re witnessing is the death of stock trucks that will go 300/400k miles with basic maintenance. Do what you want with that information, but don’t gaslight people about the new ones being as reliable.

    • @311_69
      @311_69 Před 6 měsíci +1

      And the idea of a “reliable” 4 cylinder truck that is meant to “go fast off-road” is just ridiculous. The more boost this engine gets, the shorter its lifetime. You’re getting a $65k truck that will be fun for a couple years and then need its engine rebuilt.

The one thing I get so sick and tired of is components that are meant to handle high temperatures having a plastic part (polycarbonate or whatever) somewhere on the cooling system be it for engine or oil. I've seen far too often, and even experienced it too often, that parts in that system being plastic just ends up having and astronomically high failure rate in hotter climate/running conditions that can lead to catastrophic failure too easily.
