I have owned and maintained 5 Tacomas across three different engine platforms since 2010. Ive also owned a 5th gen 4runner and a 2nd gen Tundra. Tacoma's always have my heart at the end of the day. I believe you'll get a good read on my early thoughts of the 4th gen in this video. Since we both own a 3rd gen and 4th gen. I agree on everything you said. Don’t knock until you drive the 4th gen. I did get the taco sport loaded 50k out the door. Paid no mark up and even got them to remove that $1200 gap insurance.. night and day diff. Soooooo many trolls just running their mouth without even owning either one. And the worst ones are the 3rd gen 2022-2023 owner because their butt hurt trying to justify that their newly taco is now an old dinosaur.. it’s just facts. These new taco is the shisnits.. lol

We have a 23 and 24 off road. I think anyone that is unbiased will admit the 4gen addressed and fixed most issues people had with the 3rd gen. Of course here come the ones who think that can be done without raising the price or say turbos won’t last. I dislike the smaller fuel tank and would have liked to see a 400 mile range per tank.

If you are okay with the range you had in the third gen, you will have the same range in the 4th. I came from a ‘22, and not only does the new one easily meet or exceed the range of the previous truck, it’s cheaper to fill up too 😂. I’m convinced that all the haters of this truck are either just plain haters or they haven’t tried it for themselves. I liked my ‘22 a lot, but the new one is a better truck in every way. And for those complaining about the price… don’t get one that’s fully loaded! For comparison, I had a fully loaded trd OR premium with MT 3rd gen taco, the truck was just under $50K. The new one is a fairly base model trd OR with MT that was right around $44K. I wish it had the leather seats, but you don’t need em! The cloth seats are plenty comfortable. You don’t need a power tailgate! The new tailgate is light as a feather. You don’t need a tiny rear sliding window! Mine does have the 14” screen, and I’d argue whether you need that too, but it is nice 😂.
Things you can get that I kind wish mine had… trail cameras (would be nice with the big screen too), front sway bar disconnect, power aux switches… that’s it! Oh, and definitely don’t get all the add on crap like side steps, spray on bed liner, and other stuff you don’t need. The truck is priced the exact same way as the previous generations accounting for inflation. Interest rates are high, so save up!

Great review, But I feel for the price increase they really didn't fix anything and the 3ed gen is still a better buy. There's some stuff I wish I had on my 3rd gen Rear defrost, tow brakes but all the other stuff I've already installed on my truck. The long bed is one thing I couldn't find in 2022 in Lunar Rock. Finding long beds in Minnesota is not easy for upper trims seems like the east and west coast gets them all. You're getting the right color that's the color that looks good on the 4th gen.

    • @teamoildrop
      @teamoildrop  Před 2 měsíci +6

Thanks! I do partially agree... the price increase is definitely abrupt. I take into consideration everything else in this world got more expensive in the last 4 years including the cost of manufacturing, materials, and labor. Heck, I tried to get some leaf removal for a house I am not living at yet and TWO companies without visiting my 1 acre lot quoted me off the cuff $1-1.5k... On that note, a 2022 TRD OR will still pull $38-45k with low miles EASILY according to carvana, carmax, and local ads. With a base price of a 2024 TRDOR being 43k... well, the decision is yours to make. I got everything I wanted (pretty much everything but leather for a hair under $48k when you don't count documentation and transport fees.

What do you mean they didn't fix anything on the 4th Gen ? They literally fixed
      -chassis rust issue and rigidity
      -fixed suspension comfort
      -added sway bar disconnect
      -added cameras everywhere for offroading
      - made the truck modular so you can customize easier
-made the wheel wells easier to add bigger tires stock without mods
-They improved interior comfort and modernized the Interior.
-fixed the 6 speed transmission with a 10speed that doesn't search gears.
-they made a 4cylinder with a commercial turbo with extra cooling added kick the crap out of the old v6. Seen a vid of a 2023 or tacoma getting destroyed by the non hybrid 4cylinder tacoma sport
      - they fixed so many things so please don't lie because you're biased.
Be honest the only thing we don't know is the reliability of everything they've "fixed" improved on the 24 tacoma. They also made the 24 taco pro dessert racing moab ready off the dealership. They added performance air Intake and performance exhaust stock they've changed alot from last year and have alot of justification to raise prices for what they've added and the costs of covid and inflation etc. All the trucks have their negatives and positives but you cannot say the 4th gen tacoma did not fix anything from 3rd gen tacoma. Transmission alone was fixed and like I said above so much more and more that I missed. With time we will see if the fixes and changes were worth it though. I'm still nervous and wondering if I should wait until 2026.

@@canadaspy007 they still have the a/c dripping on the frame, The frame is still going to rust but now you won't see it. Let's put offset on the wheels and fender flairs on and say it's 2" wider. Weld the hitch to the frame so it drags. Say its ground clearance is more by putting spacer and larger tires on. Take two cylinders away and get the same gas mileage. The Tacoma was good looking but we have no talent like Hollywood so we'll just make a smaller version of the Tundra. Suspension was fine Seat Jackers took care of seat angle. OTT took care of the Trans. Both still suck that you can't use the rear locker in HIGH. I can with Anytime Locker. Do you know if they fixed going into 4 LOW? Why didn't they put in 4 high auto or front locker.

@@cbayless4294 Id have to disgree with this. The 4thgen wont be perfect but it damn near fixed most of the older gen issues. Almost all the major ones. Rear seating and range are still lacking but thats more a midsize truck thing. i have a 2019, which i love. Ive driven a 4th gen 3 times now. If money was no issue id trade up for for a 2025 with little fuss. Its a much nicer and more capable truck. Beefier frame, disc brakes, more payload, way more down low torque, bigger bed, more comfortable driving position. This will have way more tuning potential. With a software tune you could easily get over 300 HP/350 TQ on this engine. How is this not an improvement over the last gen? Its a complete redesign from the ground up, its going to come at a cost

@@YerBoyTroy But like you said it's not worth the extra money that 19 of yours should still make a good dent in the loan. It's a truck not a Cadillac just keep it simple. You can't reach in the bed with a 3rd gen so lets make the side higher and say it's got more cargo area. Payload is sh** compared to ford or chevy! and what maybe 2-3 hundred more over 3rd Gen. I don't have any complaints about the third gen. Has done everything I needed it to do. Stops just fine with drum brakes. If I wanted a The Tundra look I would have spent the extra 10k. We go on talking for about 15-20 mins and in the mid way point of the convo he gave a thumbs down on even the Tacoma 2024. The rep used to race cars as a hobby and said the turbo is going to overwork the 4 cylinder and that maintenance is going to cost $$$ overtime.

Its a pretty slow engine (t24a in the tacoma), most of the work will be done by the gearing. How exactly is this going to be an over stressed engine?

@@teamoildrop Dear Gawd... we all knew there were certain things Toyota was not going to go deaf ears on w/ feedback on 3rd Gen - Gear hunting and dog slow acceleration. This carries from every CZcams reviewer.
      Issues/questions are
      1. engine reliability (this is Toyota hallmark - lot off clicks out there that this is sliding?) - see Tundra recall - metal in engine from factory - its' a BS cover up by Toyota - Toyota mechanic on CZcams explained it was engine getting hot , etc something like that and stuff coming loose - not good. Tundra is Toyota's guinea pig somewhat for Tacoma , and psst they use Lexus too as that - owners pay big money and don't hang on to them as long - Toyota obviously knows this. Then they pass what they learned on to Tacoma.
      2. Price.. but market forces and fierce competition that 3rd gen didn't have as much, looks like that will be trending down..? Toyota still started off too high IMO (did not pass Mexico savings on to Joe consumer aka Tyler aka "no wimp"). It was off putting to many in cheese grits brains regime economy. If Trump actually wins to over come the mail in fraud that is coming (or trying to jail him 24/7 for mattress tag removing - wow, what happen to this country), will he quickly slap tariffs on the Mexican Tacos (I would, and he has in the past)?
Tyler, how did the "sport" mode feel from "normal" - notice much?

Yah turbos will give you pick up. I drove a 4G TRDOR pretty much the same trim as my 3G, I wasn’t impressed however, gears and OTT (medium) does the job. Not in a hurry to race people in a Tacoma, that’s what muscle cars are for… No gas struts either ? That front air dam needs to go along with a healthy viper cut I do like the seats and how comfortable I was driving it tho, furthermore, not a fan of the huge LCD screen either I feel like I’m driving a car. Wasn’t a fan of the the adaptive cruise control and the umbrella of features under the TSS trademark. The seat bar disconnect was alright. Lastly this truck is great if you wanna go fast and pay out the but for it. It still amazes me how much it looks like a tundra also. I’m sure a lot are excited for it but being a Toyota nerd, I’m just not impressed with it the 4G. It will eventually get its fame with the right demographic but it won’t be me. Huge believer in “if it’s not broke, don’t try and fix it.” Or make a smaller version of the tundra. Also it’s a brand new Tacoma and looking forward to seeing it on the trails and putting in work and living up to its lineage along with seeing how this new 4banger platform does.

My son-in-law who is a master tech, just had to buy an Avalon because his lease on his 3rd gen came due and basically couldn't afford a new Tacoma. The new 4th gen has a totally boxed frame now. Not like the c frame in the 3rd gen. They also plugged up a lot of gaps and holes with a filler in a lot of the under parts. The new gen also has four wheel coil springs that gives not only a smoother ride but allows the wheel to articulate a lot higher and lower for better off road travel. Rear disc brakes are a plus. The Off Road also has a camera angle that will let you see the ground under and in front of you. No more having to try to look over the hood if you go up on up and over a mogul or hill. Many other cool features.

I bought a brand new fully loaded 2022 TRD Sport Army Green and planned to drive it until it died following your guides and mainly the Car Care Nut's recommendations. I'm either going to keep that, or trade it in for a new gen eventually in 1-2 years. Toyota really did fix most of the issues with the 3rd Gen. Myself, I don't need most of the bells and whistles either. What I want is a reliable truck I can get to 500k with perfect maintenance, actually shifts, and is more of a solid build like in the interior. Only time will tell. I dont know why i find the design ugly especially looking from the back. Too square and you will mistaken it for a tundra. I still wouldnt buy this truck even for a $30k because they made this truck like a rice car for teenager.

😆 well I dont know about that but the design definitely grew on me. Look up a TRDOR long bed in bronze oxide 👀

TRDOR starts at 43. I got everything I wanted but leather for a hair under 49. But you can definitely build them to be pricier if you try.

8:46 Bro you literally have the passenger seat slid forward. Which means the front passengers knees will be in the dash unless they are 5 feet tall. Slide it all the way back where the driver seat is and lets see it again. The back seat is just as tiny as the last gen.

You fooled yourself by skipping around. Watch that scene again starting with how I situate the front seat for myself first 🤦‍♂️

My humble opinion when test driving the same platform as this review, liked the low end torque and the 8-speed gearbox. Long story short overall, cheaply made like Toyota was in a hurry getting this out to the public with a fair amount of afterthought it seems and will be curious if there will be problems arising in the future with the 4-gen Tacoma.
Bottom line, if you already have a 3-gen in good shape, keep it. However if you’re a fanboy/girl and want to impress your friends/neighbors and want a throwaway vehicle, buy it. Or if your a “Flyin Freckle”🥱 follower and admirer, you better purchase it as well.😳
