- The 2024 Toyota Tacoma Chief Engineer and I discuss little known facts and key features of 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro and of all Tacoma models.
Thanks for watching and Subscribing! Jeff - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I wanted to see that big guy sitting in the back seat 😂
Sheldon is so well spoken and extremely knowledgeable in every video he’s been in. Love the content!
Thanks! And you know what, Sheldon is just as nice and fun to talk with “outside work hours”
Next time you talk to Sheldon, ask him why there is no central differential on Tacomas with partial 4WD? Only the Limited trim that has full-time AWD has it. Is it for cost saving? Is it for marketing? What's the problem putting a differential on trims with partial 4WD? I would love to have a TrailHunter or TRD Pro that would be able to drive with the front wheel engaged on dry surfaces
2019 with 34K miles.... I decided this afternoon to possibly consider a trade in..... Sheldon and Company makes me feel like I am already behind.. haha JK Tks Guys!
Thank you Sheldon and Jeff for an excellent video. I learned a lot.
Maybe the most detailed Tacoma review I’ve seen (thank you). The Toyota guy (Sheldon) is at another level.
Love an engineer as passionate as Sheldon! I hope he is in charge of the next 4Runner!
Thank you. Sheldon is a genius and extremely articulate. I ordered a 2024 SR5 last week and I am attempting to deal with the learning curve.
This Engineer is very passionate of this new Tacoma🎈
Great explanation of the truck Excellent video
Thanks Frank! I was so happy with how this came out
Awesome review
Great interview Jeff, Sheldon is a cool guy that builds great trucks.
This is most likely a $70K truck after dealer markups but DAMN she’s a beautiful beast! Especially in this color combination. Toyota did a superb job!
Probably a $70k truck before mark ups. Off-road premium without I-force max is $52k. Add the I-force max, those iso dynamic seats and all the other pro accessories. It’s gonna add up to being pretty hefty price.
Magnificent video I'm more convinced my next Tacoma will be a TRD pro . Just don't care for the seats
Beautiful work and beautiful truck
That 'Terra' looks so good in low light.
“AWESOME” video, thank you
Great conversation Jeff. Sheldon is an amazing engineer and leader.
Good job by the Exterior and Interior engineering teams. This is a good looking truck. 👌
Excellent review.
Thanks Jeff what a fine truck!!!
Are winch available for the Tacoma? And do you need suspension tuning after install? Thanks
I think Toyota hit it out of the park with this one! I’ll wait a year or two, but I do see a 4th gen Tacoma in my future.
Thats my plan exactly 2026 trailhunter shall be mine!
I disagree, this truck shows nothing worth price or hype, the engine is just as powerful as the last, makes slightly more but negligible mpg’s and a little more torque, its a big miss in my opinion
@@REDRAT555 Do you care to further explain?
Good review, nice truck!
He mentions 0.5in more travel on the Pro, why not ask him how much suspension travel front and rear? Lots of people have been asking this. Another thing that gets asked a lot bot no one answers is can the 2400W inverter work when the engine is off?
Dream truck! 2024 will be the year that dream comes true.
Parking lots are full unsold pickup trucks. The price is too high.
In other words just like the dealerships were full of vehicles pre covid. If you think trucks are selling you aren't paying attention. And the lots are starting to look like they did for decades. Were you saying nothing was selling in 2015? 2016? 2017?
It's just normal market, work at a dealer, we used to carry 100+ trucks at all time. Dealers are supposed to have at least 3 months stock in atock
No tacomas in the dealers where I am. Let alone TRD Pros.
The pro sells before it even hits the lot where I'm at, gotta get on a wait list for it
@@scootsmcdoots802024 is not out for delivery yet. There are tons of 2023 taco on the lot at dealerships around me.
Can you turn the “electronic exhaust sound” off or even lower it in the cab?
Sounds like a wonderful new truck. I’ve got a 2017 Trd.
Strong!! Can’t wait for the pros to land
Great video.
Can we get any info on the Tacoma 6 ft bed crew with the MANUAL TRANSMISSION ?
Good to hear you can get black seats and not just red on any color trd pro. One of my questions is what exactly is included with the 2024 trd pro and what do you have to add on ? Like power tailgate ? Trd exhaust ? trd performance intake ? You'd think that would all be included in one of the best and most expensive tacoma models.
The one's that would matter to me and to my knowledge TRD Pro doesn't come with rock rails, exterior bed lighting, air compressor and a slew of other options available on their website. You could probably go through another $5k worth of options even on this trim level.
What an awesome truck.
What is the biggest wheel size we can put on this TRD Pro without modify the truck?
What a beast of a truck! Only thing that concerns me is rear leg room. That's why I went with the Tundra. But that Taco is sure good lookin!
Speechless.
I have a 2009 Tacoma off road vehicle has been awesome with no problems still running strong.
I just don't understand why they didn't add a Front locking differential on the 2024 models . Jeep , Chevy, Ford, Mercedes has front and rear lockers on their models
Had to pre-order my 22 Taco. TRD OFF ROAD 4X4 in Lunar Rock, but I wanted it with a 6spd manual. Came in 4 months later. Initially the dealer said a month lead time, but didn't count on that. MSRP might as well been a distant planet..lol "Market adjustment" are the prices now...until things simmer down and dealers need to move product, but don't see that happening....at least for now.
If you allow people to fleece you, they will continue to do so. Especially the types of people found at dealerships.
My boy knows food
Hooray, he said the interior will be offered in anything other than red!
i had a tacoma for 17 years and let me tell you, never did i ever wish it had any of this new stuff the new ones have. They just added a ton of things no one asked for and increased its price.
1000% agree... I want a truck that looks good but without all the stupid stuff that no one will ever actually use. The only tech I'd want in my truck, is a CD player... which no one does anymore.
That’s okay everyone else who’s been asking for this stuff will be happy. Nobody is stopping you from buying an 8 year old Tacoma.
@@nlmaster9811 - I just dont see why Toyota ( all auot makers really) doesnt just start with a base model and make everything an option, that way everyone gets exactly what they want. Nothing more, nothing less.
Just seems like common sense.
@@orion7873that would massively drive up production costs because that’s not how scaled manufacturing works - that said anyone can totally buy a base OR or SR … so not sure why people complain about the fancy versions of these trucks that many people are willing to buy
Good job Sheldon
I am actually surprised manufacturers have not started allowing the suspension adjustments from inside the cab similar to higher end adventure motorcycles. Having a few modes ready e.g offroad, road, heavy, weight, that you can select would be great
Beautiful truck though. Would love this with the 300 series V6 diesel in New Zealand and Australia
how practical is the back seat of this tacoma - coming from a 2022 RAM 1500 Laramie but with the price of trucks now make them $1000/month so thinking about downgrading to a mid sized truck but these look very small in the back seat (have two toddlers)
Good review, Jeff. What I'd like to see with Toyota in the US is to actually give us buyers a true TRD truck option. The "R" in TRD is for racing. We can't win races and be competitive without speed. Would Toyota make their Nascars with plain vanilla speed and power. Toyota really breeds to add value for the money they charge. The TRD Pros need to get a 50 - 100bhp to any other model. Just a suspension upgrade and some decals doesn't justify the huge cost for 2024.
But you get the seats
The intake and exhaust obviously provide all the extra HP you need to
RIP Tacoma 🪦🛻
Most beautiful truck on the market, with that color combo! Too bad it’s out of price range for most people who would want one!
Toyota has forgotten the majority of it's customer base.. has everyone given in to soy?
Jeff, I would like to ask Sheldon whether the fold-forward front seat seen in 2 door Tacomas will be seen in other vehicles made by Toyota. 🤔
Is the HUD display an option like on the Limited?
I really wanted to see Mr. Sir try to sit in the rear seat 😂😂
Nice truck the only issue is with the dealership and all the games they play, there is no way to purchase this TRD Pro at MSRP in California, the price is already high.
That’s what you get for living in the People’s Republic of California.
Must dealerships nationwide are the same, check Arizona and Nevada they have huge mark up prices too.
Besides what a better place to live than California 😂
Buying a TRD Off-road Hybrid or Pro but in 2025. Waiting for Aftermarket to catch up
I cant help but wonder about the black part under the headlights. Its there a purpose to this other than cosmetics. Is the a mod for like intake or an extra light or something?
Impressive!
Also wish he'd have asked if the trd pro rigid fog lights can switch to amber or yellow for actual fog.
Only the TrailHunter has this feature, from what I’ve seen in other videos!!!
People either hate it or love it. I am not going to complain about the price and hate on people who can afford one. I'm going to buy one. After I drive off the lot, I am getting some Tacos at El Taco Poco Loco. Look what I bought Ken and Karen!
Was this truck stock or did it have a lift kit added?
do you have to charge the hybrid as well as add gas??
The parts shortages are over, people should be getting deals on these trucks. If you’re paying MSRP, you’re overpaying. There is a TON of 2024 Tacoma inventory that’s about to hit the dealers, don’t get ripped off.
How about the Towing capacity for TRD Pro?
What’s the GVWR of the new Tacomas?
WE TALK ABOUT TRD: HAS ANY ONE OF THE TRD SERIES BEING DRIVEN IN PARIS-DAKAR RALLY? I LOVE TO SEE HOW IT PERFORMS.
Removable speaker is another unnecessary feature that adds to the price. That along with the seat suspension should be an option
Agreed. I’d have taken having those removed and put the savings in a lower priced Pro. Or at least have made them optional.
Can’t please everyone
@DanBrando I am positive you would please most everyone by gettting rid of those seats and speaker.
@@DanBrando at least make it an option so those that don’t want it don’t have to pay for it.
I wish they'd sell a base model and just have everything be an option at a fair price... I want a truck that looks like the TRD pro but without any of the actual tech. I don't need 5 cameras or electric tailgates. I'd just want a CD player maybe. I'd even be fine with manual windows.
Will the TRD Pro be offered with a 6' bed?
how long is the suspension travel on trd pro?
Will the frame rust out on this Tacoma too ?
Love the new tacoma. i current drive a tundra and want to trade in for a tacoma TRD pro, with respect , Sheldon looks like a pretty big guy, does he fit comfortably in his TRD Pro?
how many sippy cup holders does it have and does it still have rear drum brakes?
Are the iso dynamic seats an option or standard?
That’s what so many of us want to know. Are the pieces on the back of the seats at least removable? There’re being so tightlipped.
This truck is beautiful. I’m probably going to have to get another job just to buy one though ☹️
Standard seats on the TRD PRO
Will the 120V power in the truck bed function when the truck is not running?
I believe yes in the hybrid and no (obviously) in the gas models.
WHY NOT IN THE GAS MODEL? THIS TRUCK IS OBVIOUSLY A MONEY GRAB AND EVERYONE SHOULD GET MAD AND COMPLAIN ON THE INTERNET
Is there a list of what's in this exact model so we can build one on Toyota's site?
How much is the new pro going to be?
I really, really, do not find those iso dynamic seats necessary. Make those seats an option on all models and not standard on the TRD-PRO
Does limited have power folding mirrors?
Stopped in my dealer to see if they had any new TACOS. They haven’t gotten anything yet. Was also told “expect to pay $7k above 2023 prices across the model range”
Put the drink holders with the center console buttons so you can make a mess over time even a dummy button left on a high trim mini pickup👀
we're a week from 2024 and this truck isn't even on the website yet. Which makes sense since the 7 of them that they will build won't show up to dealers for 8 months after they are ordered anyway.
😄😄 the TRD makes sheldon look small...height of trd-pro? Wish it had 6ft bed
You can get it with a 5 or 6 foot bed.
I haven't heard yet if they put a keyless entry on the passenger side door. I really hate not having keyless entry on both sides.
My gen 3 has keyless entry on both sides
Toyotajeff with the exclusives
For me a truck is not a real truck unless it has a 6' bed and manual trans. I understand the manual trans TRD sport is only offered with a 5' bed? As the Tacoma chief engineer do you know if that is true? Try hauling a full size dirt bike in a 5' bed.
Love everything about the truck except the isodynomic seats ,I hope it is optional for more leg room in the back seats.
you riding in the back?
Agree...more leg room or not, they are just not worth the extra costs they will add. Please make that an option
No, but there might be such things as "Passengers" or gear, that could benefit from an extra inch of space in the back of the cabin@@dylanhancock5843
I think people underestimate how much better the driving experience will be with the isodynamic seats - the most annoying thing about off-roading on rough terrain is your neck whipping back and forth
THE 4 CYLINDER WILL PERFORM GOOD: WITH A TURBO, YES, BUT WHEN YOU DECIDE TO TOW, IT WILL CRY. A LOT OF DIESEL 4 CYL TURBO PRADOS BLOW PISTONS WHEN TOWING.
What about the hybrid side the electric drive motors. Engine is just powering them so if they stay powered the truck will be fine I hope. I'm sure they've towed lots for testing
Who is towing with a Tacoma?
@@XploreAzpeople who want to tow and don't want to spend $80k on a Tundra
@@velcrofishsticks6002 you can’t tow shit with a Tacoma. Not anything with real weight or length anyways. That’s what full size trucks are for.
@@velcrofishsticks6002 where are you buying Tundra’s for $80k?
I still can't get an answer on wether or not you can lock the rear differential in 2WD.
Only the PreRunner has that feature
what's the size for the differential? front and back? I ear 9.5 in the back is it true?
Same as the tundra I heard.
When does the Pro land? Can’t get any info and want one badly
Tacoma CHENG! Can you put out a video on the tow package? specifically, talk about and show how the back up straight line assist works! . Like the TUNDRA videos show! (We all know how the guide lines or arrows work) . Thank you!
Will trd pro be available with 6 ' bed ?
All the info out there says it’s a 5’ bed only on the TRD Pro
What about that Gloss finish on the trim, looks like it will scratch. Maybe should've made it a matt rubber coated finish.
Does it come with rear drum brakes? :)
no they are doing disc in the rear now with an electric actuator for the parking break. So not even drum parking brakes.
Why no paddle shifters?
MPG?
NEED a single cab 🥶
How do you turn the bed lights on and off
Is this the same drivetrain as the Lexus RX 500h?
Thought those shark fins were vortex generators lol
They can keep that engine 😂
Are bolt on rock sliders worth it or should I just weld them
Why would you weld them if you don't have to?
@@terrynichol577 more solid and stronger for their intended purpose
@@jtec99sure haha... I'm not really crawling rocks so it's not a concern of mine... Trails, camping and lots of snow for me
@@terrynichol577 me too, but some of those parking spot separators at the mall are getting bigger
Great video...But what about the SPACE for people to access and sit down in the 2nd row??? It looks too small for somebody 6' feet tall...
As a UAW/gm worker that owns a 2023 canyon at4 and feels gm fell way short on the mid size new trucks. I can’t to see and test drive a 2024 Tacoma and I’ll be trading or getting rid of my canyon for one.
Nice,大咖光临❤
