Even the CW superhero shows are better than this at least they have some passion put into them and their characters are fleshed out. This has some great casting choices but they do not take advantage of that at all.

This movie basically used a Teen Titans episode when Raven lost control of her powers and her fears manifested into attacking the team, except that episode told the story way better than this half-baked movie.
Wow, I haven't seen Teen Titans in forever and still remember that lepisode like it was yesterday, this movie had 10x the budget and still did worse

At first I thought it was Buffy reference, since they watch it during the movie... and then remembered that the chara's name in Buffy/Angel was *Illyria* (played by *Amy Acker* , who portrayed Audrey Nathan in Marvel's "Agents of Shield", and Caitlin Strucker in Marvel's "The Gifted" ) and not Ilyana...
My google-fu then taught me that Ilyana was the name of the mean blond chick.

That’s just a coincidence and likely a product of hair, makeup and wardrobe due to Doctor Who Series 9 was filmed in 2015 while The New Mutants was filmed in 2017.

The trailer was cut to make it look like a horror movie, but that's not what the movie was. After the positive reaction to the trailer, reshoots were supposed to happen to make it into a horror movie, but the reshoots never happened.
The movie was so delayed it was renamed The Old Mutants.

Look, I know that this wasn't much of a good movie, but it still has a lot of potential, I can't believe that Disney's purchase of Fox reverted the film rights to Marvel Studios, ending the possibility of any sequels.
I don't care what Disney has done, I REALLY, REALLY WANT TO SEE A SEQUEL FOR THE NEW MUTANTS, and have their alien Technarchy friend, and most iconic teammate, "Warlock" in it.

I get the feeling that those reshoots were probably needed. But, you know, pandemic and sale happened.
You kind of realize it's a low budget movie when the evil corporation only has one visible employee. I guess the kids realized that because when the shield was down, instead of running away before more bad guys arrived, they just took their time walking out of there.

So, a friend of mine was the Smiling Man... we waited years to see this movie... and I honestly think his part was the best part of the movie.

Like 4 times (By rewriting his X3 script so much it became unrecognizable, by forcing him to work with alcoholics during Fant4stic, forcing him to basically ghost-direct Apocalypse while Singer was also drunk, and then telling him he could make Dark Phoenix how he wanted it, until right before production when they said "Oh also, you can't make it two long movies, one 2 hour film lol").
The fact that this was far more interesting to watch than the actual new mutants, and I mean it in every sense of the word😂
This best thing about this film was seeing Buffy on the TV twice and being reminded of how good that is.
I'm with you 100% Buffy bits were the best bits.
And they choose Hush which is easily the best episode of Buffy :D

I saw this movie when is in theaters and I actually enjoyed watching it so much I end up buying it on Blu-ray.
Credit where credit is due, they picked two of the best Buffy episodes to watch!

@@bnice1374 I agree, New Mutants was not that bad. It just isn't really a superhero movie. I like that it isn't just another copy and paste "superheroes saving the world" template of a movie. Certainly could have improved on some aspects, but I would definitely watch more of these characters than the primary X-men timeline at this point.
The funniest part is neither of their movies is the worst, that title belongs to Origins
@@al0742 The last X-Men movie I saw was Logan, so I haven't seen this or Dark Phoenix (and the Honest Trailers were enough for me) but both those films seem worse from the honest trailers. Also in my personal opinion, Apocalypse was worse than Origins.

Yeah, a CGI bear fight wasn't the first thing on my mind when this movie was announced.
The Demon Bear saga is one of the classic New mutants stories (completely different than in the movie, though), so I kind of expected it.

Have you and the Pitch Meeting Guy ever considered writing the perfect movie?
There was only one other person in my cinema and they were more than 20 metres away, so seeing this movie was one of the safest places I've been actually. I also work in a mental health unit, so I found the thought of being the only employee pretty scary actually!
Yeah, in general that comment about the going to theaters doesn't really hold up. Especially in other countries where COVID-19 has been kept pretty much under control from the beginning. My city had about 30 cases when this came out and we have almost 153.000 inhabitants. I can tell you I felt pretty safe in the theater.
Not to say COVID-19 is not dangerous and you should not keep repercussions. Because you totally should, so wear a mask, keep distance and don't go to big social gatherings when your city/country is experiencing a big outbreak. Currently we are experiencing a second wave here with almost 600 cases in my city (I know dwarfs in comparison to the US). So we went into a (smart) lockdown and that is how it should be to keep a handle on this virus. But when it's safe(ish), we should try to enjoy life. We need to be able to live in order to not go insane.

I saw it and didn’t think it was bad. It’s different than what people are used to for super hero movies and for what it was I liked it, and I feel there should have been more to it, but they weren’t going to leave in any Mr. Sinister stuff or cliff hangers if they weren’t planning on continuing it.
