What really annoyed me was how underused Red Guardian was. They barely gave him anything to do. Melina said none of the widows would be able to harm Dreykov. Ok, why not send in Red Guardian?
Same reason. Anyone who smells his pheromones can’t harm him, but I wouldn’t have trusted RG to sever that nerve and take down Dreykov and the red room properly lol. Between bringing up his and Dreykov’s past and then knowing to get his ring and download everything etc. They made him too much of an idiot
It is kinda sad because in my opinion red guardian was my favorite character. Honestly if he got a Disney plus series I would probably be extremely happy

Dreykov betrayed the Red Guardian and had him imprisoned for life. You really think Dreykov would've let him in the room to have a nice little chat AND send Taskmaster away to face RG alone?
Thank God you didn't come up with their plan. Red Guardian would be dead under a swarm of Widows outside of Dreykov's closed door, and the rest of the Romanoff's would now be brainwashed Widows still working for Dreykov.

its like actors learning an accent for a movie, they go back to their original accent when theyre not acting
@@katrinadinh5070 It's not like that at all though, because (1) the actors' lives do not depend on them keeping up the correct accent at every single second of their time using it and (2) they would go back to a different *language*, not accent; they probably wouldn't even have an accented version of English in their repertoire.
and (2b) making people speak with an accent to represent that they are foreign and maybe are speaking their native language some of the time is an extremely lazy and annoying American movie trope

I feel Black Widow could have been a really intriguing, tense companion piece to The Winter Soldier and Civil War. It could have gone to some dark places (which it tries, but doesn't completely succeed) and created some of the best character work yet in the MCU. Sadly, it just didn't have the right edge to truly excel. It was good, but could've been so much more if it just tried a little bit harder.
Of course not. They make jokes about the ledger being red and Widows not being able to have babies both of which were really serious topics in The Avengers and AoU when Natasha addressed them
Thats kind of how I feel about it, like, it was fine, but I honstly didnt think about it at all until now, like I think I would be bored out of my mind on a second watching
Yea, I felt that. This felt enough like TWS (in tone) to see the movie's potential. But, it also strayed enough away from TWS and too close to the MCU formula to still feel like just another mediocre MCU movie, though I did like it more than most of the other mediocre MCU movies.

they could have made it dark and tragic but i guess marvel doesnt want the movie to take that route since they made it for every demographic to see which made it bad. it involves brainwashing,experimentation,assassination etc. it had so much potential.
Now I see why they had to do this movie AFTER Endgame. If they had done it before, then everyone would have expected her to have survived the fall at Vormir, complete with 3 point landing stance and hair flip. Now that would have been a really cool plot twist :)

This movie felt like a Sequal to a movie which never existed

That’s because it kinda is a sequel/spin off to civil war.
That was originally supposed to lead into Falcon and Winter Soldier too.

That is exactly how I felt. This movie feels exactly like a Black Widow 2, to a Phase One Black Widow origin movie that never happened ... right down to Taskmaster being this movie's equivalent to The Winter Soldier. The entire movie is about Natasha's past returning to haunt her. But we've never seen her past!

"for a movie thats good at pretty much everything except a black widow solo film" that is my number 1 issue with this movie, I honestly think it should have covered her origins and maybe the darker parts of her past, but that probably wouldn't have been disney friendly

That invincibility of them took me out of the film a little. They survive stuff with no injuries. It's difficult not to compare to Winter Soldier, in which they show being more vulnerable to guns and crazy villains.
Apparently, the Widows have been retconned into having gained low-level regen and heightened reflexes through supersoldier experiments the Red Room conducted whilst trying to recreate the Erskine serum.

Why wasn’t this movie about Natasha’s orgin story of growing up in the program, being a brutal assassin, meeting Hawkeye, and becoming a hero? It’s the BW movie we wanted. It would have taken place in different timelines too, but nope. They had to tell the story of her replacement instead. What a waste.
Apparently they said it was because they didnt want her to share the spotlight with a man, though I guess its ok for her to have no spotlight whatsoever.
Yea her relationship with Hawkeye was pivotal to her development. This movie is just years too late . I think this probably wasn't the original vision of the movie

There does seem to be one significant aspect of the movie that was overlooked here:
This movie was probably the first time that most of us have actually heard the lyrics to Smells Like Teen Spirit.
I've heard that song at least a hundred times over the years and there's at least a full verse that I never truly heard correctly before watching Black Widow.

This feels like a sequel to what should have been her first movie. It's all about her returning to her past. 99% of it is just them recalling memories that none of the audience remember and the majority of the dialogue is just about how they're back and ready to fight together again. Nat deserved a better movie than this tbh. I still enjoyed it though.
I enjoyed it too. It did its job at explaining Black Widow’s origins, even though it does feel the introduction to her replacement. There are worse ways to do an origin story. I’M TALKING ABOUT YOU X-MEN ORIGINS! YOUR DEADPOOL DESERVED TO BE SHOT REPEATEDLY!!!
Marvel Studios could easily make a Black Widow Prequel set in Budapest with Hawkeye, War Machine, & The Hulk!

Exactly my feelings on the film. The characters were charismatic and the writing was good enough to carry it, but I just wish the story had been better and Nat was more involved in her own movie.

Omg...thank you for bringing this to light. There are tons of Russian speaking actors in the US, who can be casted to do some proper Russian language or at least accent. This thing with Kurylenko seems to be not the first time either. All the "slavic" women in 007 franchise and the first time they cast an actual Slavic chick who can speak Russian she is playing a Latina. Smh. My Russian ears are tired of all the butchering. It's a very difficult language. Either leave it alone or do it justice.

It’s the thing we didn’t know we wanted to…know…about. I guess. Which was ultimately pointless…until I guess they reference it again in some canned emotional moment, in another MCU film/TV show.
I feel sorry for Scarlet, she was the producer, she sued Disney+ and lost, her character died a movie ago and all of that for a film where she's not even the protagonist

It’s a Mission Impossible movie. Face mask, list of secret agents, helicopter stunts, going rogue from a secret spy agency, not dying without any powers to save you. That’s literally everything that happens on every MI movie.

See they just needed to go a little darker, a little smaller... The opening sequence was so good. It had me so hopeful, and then the rest let me down. Nat could have been more that some sad facial expressions in a mirror. Whelp, time to go read the new Black Widow again to make up for this mess.

I appreciate the Ghost World reference. It’s strange that in videos where Scarlett Johansson and Thora Birch are interviewed about their careers that movie always gets skipped when it was Scarlett’s breakthrough role and Thora’s best role.
I know people give a lot of grief to Hawkeye for that scene where he goes off on Thor... but honestly, the more I watch it, the more it seems like a legit honest reaction a person would have in such an insane situation

I’m all for Florence Pugh’s character, but this movie should’ve been a Raid-style action film of Black Widow and Hawkeye in Budapest. Plus flashback sequences that connect some of her origin story, and tie it into the emotional arc of the overall film.
Then we could’ve gotten this one, or something like it.
That’s the point. An ordinary fan can write a better movie than Disney could ever do. But they gave us this garbage.
I was thinking they could at least have it where Hawkeye was there part of the time and Yelena didn't get unbrainwashed until at least halfway into the movie. It would help if they developed characters rather than having them start out already knowing each other.

Because it wasn't supposed to be an origin story. This movie takes place in the 2 year gap between civil war and infinity war. The point of this movie is to show what she did in those 2 years, how was her life. Yes I agree, it should have been different and it should have shown much more of her past but it was never an origin story.

Because Scarlett Johansson is too old now to play her younger character, and CGI her face would be awful. They should have made it after Iron Man 2 when Black Widow was freshly introduced.

I liked her character a lot. I also like that they actually kept some realism with her white stealth outfit. It's big sister's and doesn't fit her, so she needed the straps to make it fit "right."

Yeah, bit weird. Breaking your nose does stop you from smelling but that's more to do with the 'smells' not reaching the olfactory cleft where the receptor cells are, due to the break.
The brain colliding with the front of the skull would also damage olfactory neurones/sever the nerve and stop you from smelling but that's not directly related to a broken nose.
They kinda mixed up the two in the movie lol

The Smells Like Teen Spirit montage in the beginning was honestly the best part of the movie and seemed like it should be an intro to a much better and darker movie than it did
That montage was the best we could get to describe the actual feel of The Red Room, since what transpires in training there cannot be shown in a Marvel movie. They CAN'T go that dark.
Just like in xmen origins, where they gave us the best part that could have been a good movie at the beginning and choose to tell a much worse story instead.

I am Russian and I can honestly tell you that those accents aren’t Russian 😂 plus, the fact that throughout the movie they kept calling each other by their full names in informal settings is ridiculous. We don’t do that, come oooon!

@@dashamrykalo9485 they fail at Russian or being Russian in almost every instance in tv or movie. My ex who is Russian told me the only time she was impressed with someone's Russian was one show called burn notice. Other than that it's always comical.

im not sure they actually would've died there tho, at least not all of them. they were running inside when we last saw em, and that prison definitely looked strong enough to support itself even under a bunch of snow and rocks.
