True Story: Zack Ward (Scut) and I became friends because we met at SDCC & we were mutual fans of each other. He loves Honest Trailers.
I freaking love Zack Ward. He was in the only Uwe Boll movie worth watching and he was awesome. Everything needs more Zack Ward. Thanks for giving us some. And if Zack Ward sees this, please tell hm I say high and loved him in Postal
Edit: Spelling
I was seriously wondering that. Awesome!
What a cameo !
That's cool
That is brilliant.
Not so fun fact: While the production mostly obscured the date of the movie, the Little Orphan Annie decoder he uses dates it specifically to 1940. That is, one year before Pearl Harbor. This was Ralphie's favorite Christmas because it would be the last real Christmas of his childhood, due to WWII.
Whooaaaa.
Mind blown...
Interesting! I always thought it was set in the 50s.
The calendar seen in the movie:
December 1939
Holy fudge
I remember being sick on christmas eve one year when TBS was playing their 24 hr marathon. I forgot it was christmas eve, and I kept waking up at the same part of the movie all day.
I had no idea what was going on, and now associate this movie with Groundhogs Day, because I was so out of it I thought I was reliving the same day over and over.
lol that is so funny and sad at the same time
It's that fifth of Wild Turkey 101 you finished the night before
wait, what part of the movie you were waking up to? lol
Wade that is hilarious.
I had something like that happen to me too. At a family Christmas party and every time I'd come back to the TV. It was basically around the same place I last watched it on earlier.
"My mother hasn’t had a hot meal for herself in 15 years" gave me an existential crisis.
At the end of the movie she got to relax and eat Chinese turkey.
I don't even know what that means.
I’m okay, you guys. My arm’s just really sore.
Those purple nurples are deadly !
Oke voice guy phew
Stop Zack no Booli
Tryndamere said my right arm is a lot stronger than my left arm
How the hell are you not verified yet
"Anybody want to sell me a PS5?"
No, you'll shoot your eye out.
LOL
Underrated comment. 👍
This!
man nostalgic DLC is getting really specific.
in VR!
A Christmas Story: The most honest cinematic version of Christmas ever produced.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
@@aguy7848 This was my family at Thanksgiving. I even told my mom that my sister (who hosts it) just wanted to have a "Griswold old fashioned family Thanksgiving", and my parents and siblings just stormed in like Uncle Eddie. Mom wasn't amused, but got the picture anyway,
@@aguy7848 every single year i have a Clark moment while putting up the lights.
How many kids got their tongues stuck on a frozen pole just to see if it was possible after watching this movie?
I may or may not have done that
I hope the movie scared kids out of trying it.
Nope, I was lucky to see my older brothers do it on their own and I happily learnt from their mistakes.😂
I had a high school history teacher who told us he did that when he was younger and worked at a restaurant. Worst part? He stuck his tongue to a pole *inside a meat locker* . His tongue nearly crumbled off his own face that day...
I tried it on an ice cube straight from the freezer when I was high. It was hilarious.
"Where listening to the radio was considered fun!"
Me who listens to hours and hours of podcasts every week. :[
I can top that easily!! I’ve spent over $1000.00 (roughly £1250.00) on Big Finish Doctor Who audio dramas and DW related audio drama spin-offs over the course of the last seven years (some were made for BBC3 Radio, some were made exclusively for cd and/or digital download)! For the most part, it was worth every penny converted to pound via the exchange rate (every long-running series is bound to have a few duds, if you’re interested in the main range of DW Big Finish Audio Dramas, avoid Scaredy Cat, Minuet in Hell, Flip Flop and finally the DW Unbound story Full Fathom Five at _ALL_ _COSTS_ !)
Those old radio shows are still fun to listen to, I say.
Buddy of mine actually started a podcast that’s in the style of an old time radio show. Best of both world’s lol
Shameless plug: it’s called “Yesterday’s News Today”
I have to admit, cartoons, books, and radios have suddenly become relevant again because of this damned pandemic. That's a good silver lining for a lot of us.
We have a local radio station where I live that on Sunday still run old Jack Benny shows. I listen to them now and again.
This is the most honest movie about childhood you will ever see. We look back at our lives with rose colored glasses and tend to forget just how much crying, whining and terror there was.
OMG that’s so true in a simultaneously really sad and really funny way
I dunno, I look back on my childhood and think "man, was I a hideous geek and crybaby. No wonder I didn't have any friends"... granted, things haven't changed much.
@@HylianFox3 yeah i look back and think, "man I was a spoiled selfish pain a lot before I found God and got saved by God and Jesus Christ."
My dad grew up in a dysfunctional family in the '50s, and says the 1st few times he saw this movie, he didn't like it because it was "haunting" (basically reminded him of the reality of his childhood). But he got over that, and now enjoys watching it every year, choosing instead to focus on the "warm fuzzy" memories it gives him.
At least it builds character...?
A Christmas Story is a horror movie where everyone around you proves that they can hear your inner monologue and that they know the future but won't interfere with it because they are all afraid of the wrath of God.
You really should do an Honest Trailer for Team America: World Police.
Zack Ward, who played Scut Farkus, had a minor role in Transformers. He is the one stabbed in the back by the scorpion at the Arab Village. He said everyone on Transformers wanted to talk to him about being the bully in Christmas Story.
A Christmas Story is a love story about a kid and his dad. Ralphie tells every single person he can about the Red Ryder and gets shot down every single time. The one person he *doesn't* talk to about it is the Old Man but it's he who comes through for Ralphie in the end. Makes me tear up every time.
Exactly, it's about realizing that your father cares about you. Stunning how many people miss the message of this film.
And you have to assume he didn't tell his Dad because he figured he wouldn't care. It really is a great subtext.
Wow! Never thought of it that way!
We got a similar situation in the sequel, and I don't mean "A Christmas Story 2". I'm talking about the one about Ralphie's Summer vacation.
@@SaviorGabriel I think they actually adapted that one first.
this movie is so iconic that TBS and TNT will show a marathon at the same time around Xmas every year.
It'll start in a couple weeks.
yup 24 hrs of it lol
My favorite movie of all time. Thanks Screen Junkies!
This is the first time when I (born 1947) ever heard tellin of this movin picture.
The kid in line to see Santa that says "I like Santa" and then proceeds to scream when he meets Santa is the best part of this movie
Funny cuz it's true! My daughter literally did this exact same thing last Sunday, except it was a photographer's studio. "So excited for Santa!" *sees Santa* *commence hysterical crying*
He reminds me of my cousin. Who grew up to be a model.
I know a kid who was the same with Spiderman. It still makes me laugh every time I think about it.
"I like the Tin Man"
I’ve requested this several times, but do an Honest Trailer for Gremlins.
I'm genuinely shocked they haven't already done this one
Yes I agree he should do Gremlins
Or just do it for gremlins 2, the superior film.
@@garrisonfjord facts, I'd watch a whole movie staring brain gremlin.
After an Honest Trailer for Hawk the Slayer.
All I remember about the story is that bit with the decoder ring that said "Be sure to drink your Ovaltine (which still somehow exists in 2020)"
Ovaltine is good!
So shocked it wasn't mentioned or joked about how Jean Shepherd was the guy in Macy's with the gray hat and actually spoke to Ralphie making it feel like that should have broke the time-space continuum. :)
This is a Christmas treasure, and it's educational. Without it, we would have never known Victor was the name of the Lone Ranger's nephew's horse.
Everybody knows that!
Great characters of American literature!
My father has told me that this film is the closest you can get to how kids in the late 30s thought of their own childhoods.
That’s what’s so excellent about it. I grew up in the 90’s and not much had changed.
A movie like this could never be made today it's about a kid with an unstable home life who constantly gets bullied and ends up fulfilling his dream of owning a firearm
Plus, isn't that Chinese restaurant scene like super offensive by today's standards?
@@dobbysboggart6883 probably I saw the movie once when I was 5 and I really only remember a kid losing his eye while another kid licked a pole
@@dobbysboggart6883 I'll admit I cringed when they showed the "FA RA RA RA RA" part
@@HylianFox3 I still laugh at that scene.
Make a joke about white folks not being able to dance and everyone laughs.
Make a joke about the fact that there isn't an "L" in any Chinese language and the same folks cry rike rittre babies.
Shazam! pretty much fits what you described here. You can easily replace the superpowers with gun and you'd have the same movie.
Being born in Toronto and raised there for a number of years, I always love watching this and pointing out all the scenes/shots filmed in my hometown! Such a classic
You should do an Honest Trailer for the year 2020
fantastic idea!
This is a comedy show not a horror show
Hell yeah!
Screen junkies get on that
I feel like an honest trailer of the year 2020 would be just what the doctor ordered to cure me of my pandemic induced depression.
And that boy would grow up to say “I’m not Tony Stark”.
And also became a villain in 'SpiderMan Far and Away'
@@thedoneeye Is that the one where Spidey is an Irish immigrant competing in the Oklahoma Land run?
@@donalny Ha ha!! Good one!
@@thedoneeye Far From Home :)
@@Korcsmaros to quote Homer Simpson DOH!!!
Ralfie produced Iron Man yet ironically not a Red Ryder movie.
Well, now you know who to pitch your screenplay to. Get on it.
"The film you've seen a thousand times by now-"
Me, never having seen it once: aight imma head out
Same, just watched it for the first time today
This is the only movie that actually shows the real events in Christmas
True that!
It also shows that Wizard of Oz was basically the Star Wars of 1940
This and _Jingle All the Way_
National lampoon
Every one of my Christmases ends up looking like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation tho
Interesting fact: The Chinese place guy put the severed head of the “Chinese turkey” in his pocket.
Where do you place your severed heads?
Living in China, im not surprised. Not going to let that delicious duck neck go to waste! They sell them by the bagful in food stands everywhere. Pretty tasty, i must say...
Throw that in a pot with some stock and a potato, baby you got a stew going!
And that is how coronaviruses got started.
I just love that it's called the "Bo Ling" Chinese restaurant and used to be a "Bowling" alley with one burnt-out letter.
Okay - you might have done this already, but I don’t think so. We *need* a Coraline honest trailer.
I like how they called out Bob Clark for directing Porky’s but they should’ve also pointed out that he directed Black Christmas! One of the all time slasher movies and it obviously has a tie to Christmas like this movie! Could’ve been a funny transition of Epic Voice Guy saying “from the director of one of the darkest slasher films of all time” (in deep serious trailer voice) into a happy cheerful voice introducing A Christmas Story.
Save that for a Richard Donner movie.
Make the Honest Trailer for Ferngully: The Last Rainforest
Say "ooh, you'll love my toxic love."
That Batty Rap tho
God yes!!!
Didn't they already do Avatar?
In honor of Dave Prowse aka Darth Vader, say "Your powers are weak, old man"
Or "No, I am your father!"
Well technically that wasn't Dave saying those...but I get what you mean
@@dancingmonkey08, well, he did, but was then dubbed over.
I absolutely LOVE this movie!!! Went to see it in the theater when it first came out....
I totally forgot that Ralphie was bullied by child Rorschach.
He went to school with Anne Shirley
Dear God, Zack Ward played Rorschach
Damn. If I didn't read this comment just now. I wouldn't have known that. Good catch
Not literally, though. Totally different actor, but there is a resemblance in looks and demeanor.
Another fact:
Ralphie is the guy who got yelled by Obadiah Stane in the first Iron Man movie.
This movie is a pretty honest depiction of childhood. It’s not always great, sometimes it really sucks and you just have to deal with it. But there are good moments there that make it all seem worthwhile.
I heard a theory that part of the reason why Ralphie is so fond of this particular Christmas is because America was on the verge of getting involved in WWII and his old man got drafted after Pearl Harbor.
Plot thickens.
That's so sad and kinda dark...
Bad theory. The Old Man was too old for the draft.
Draft board would not accept someone who also was the sole provider for a family. That's why you rarely hear about families who were in dire straits because the father was drafted into a war.
That dad was way too old for the draft
First they get Casper Van Dien for the Starship Troopers Honest Trailer, now they get Zack Ward for the Honest Trailer of A Christmas Story...AWESOME.
Whether you think a Christmas story is outdated or not, it's still more progressive than a hallmark movie.
Yes and superior in every other way too
Well that bar's so low you'd need to stick James Cameron in a submersible to go lower.
"Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave!"
“With a box of scraps!”
Please say: "Wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man, wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man, wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man!"

I actually just saw the movie for the first time a few minutes ago, only now in my 20s. Let's just say I wasn't ready for the absolute insanity that this movie would put me through. And I kinda loved it.
Fun fact: Every part of this movie is my favorite part of the movie.
I’ve never seen this movie but the “I can’t put my arms down” scene sent me😂
Oh, it's worth watching at least once. It is a reflection of old times, and it is not too long.
@Alexa Kennedy - It really is a charming film, Chinese turkey and all.
This movie became a part of my childhood since it played for 24 hours straight on TBS.
"I shot my eye out"
And at that moment I realized: wow, I was a dumb kid.
And unlucky, his first shot being a ricochet and got his eye and all.
Zack Ward is straight up great. Whether he's being eaten by a zombie dog in Racoon City, or being slapped around by his abusive big brother Titus, he's still great. It made my day when I heard his voice on this one.
This has been a Christmas Eve/Christmas morning MUST in our home. My 3 boys could quote most of the movie. Now they are watching it with their own kids. We LOVE it and think it is perfect! Favorite line: "Meatloaf, smeatloaf, double beatloaf. I hate meatloaf"!! My adult sons STILL say that when I serve meatloaf.
They got Zack Ward for this? NICE!
He is actually a great guy in real life and one of my best bros.

My dad got a red rider BB gun and those things do bounce back from their target. Oh my god.
Pretty much, I was 11 when a buddy and me were shooting pigeons in his dads barn... the pellet ricocheted off the roof and hit me in the cheek.
I have never seen this movie all the way through but the main kid always seemed like the type to need SO MUCH THERAPY
A Christmas movie that is down to earth and relatable which is why I love it.
literally screamed out loud when I saw Christmas Story's Honest Trailer on my feed! This Was AWESOME!!!
Him saying “before he got hot” just doesn’t sound right
The house from the movie is an attraction now. You can get tickets to tour it and then go down the street to a gift shop. I've got pics of myself shooting a BB gun in the back yard of the house.
This is the most honest depiction of a Midwest family ever.
I love A Christmas Story because it is the most relatable Christmas movie ever. The whole movie is about a kid wanting a Xmas present.
Kudos to Zack Ward for appearing in this!
Such a classic Christmas movie!
Ain't even seen the movie . But here for the honest trailer
This is a CLASSIC! You gotta watch it. They usually run it for 24 hours straight on Christmas on TBS...
HOW HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THIS MOVIE?
Same Duke. But I have seen the musical. I was not impressed
I've also never watched this movie in full. Maybe caught most of in from walking past the tv over the years.
Here for all the "You haven't seen this movie?!!" over reactions.
Fun Fact: Bob Clark also directed the original Black Christmas, a rather different take on the holiday.
And the...Baby Geniuses movies.
Sad Fact: He (and his son) were killed by a drunk driver who was sentenced to only 6 years in prison
Maaan, I love this movie an unreal amount. Watched it every Christmas for 20 years (a tradition that'll stop when I'm pushing up daisies). I wish you said, "It...it was......soap...poisoning!" or "He looks like a pink nightmare!"
@Alana Igbe - By the way, "Pushing Up Daises" was a great, funny TV show with wonderful production design that was too beautiful to live more than about 2 seasons.
Because of this film, I sometimes can't help but read the word "fragile" the way the dad says it.
Great to see you having fun and switching up the voices! Guest stars are always a nice bit of originality. (Of course Jon is incredible, I just liked having the two actors play off each other)
and here I thought a christmas story was SACRED, now I know better, NOTHING IS SACRED
It's a Wonderful Life has been around forever. How can there not have been an Honest Trailer of it!?
"Is this movie even good or do we like it because we have it all memorized?"
Yes.

Pretty much the same story of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (try watching that alone some time).
To be fair the BATFE doesn’t consider air rifles firearms.
Or muzzleloaders, or anything manufactured before 1898. I work in a gun store, EVERYONE wanted a gun this year.

Finally!!! Thanks so much for this! You have made my life complete!!
You didn't say "you'll shoot your eye out"! Also, the sketch show aspect is probably the reason it's been so successful playing on a 24-hour loop with nobody at the TNT/TBS master control board - you can tune in for a few minutes between opening presents and Christmas dinner, or whatever, and follow what's going on. I don't think I've sat down and watched the whole thing through since sometime in the '90s.
Honest Trailers: "A Christmas classic you've seen a thousand times by now"

That's what I was thinking
It plays for 24 hours on TBS and TNT in America
TBS and TNT put it on 48 hour rotations. It also lets everybody go home for Christmas, well, except for the one or two guys who have to program commercials.
I'm from the UK, am a bit of a movie buff - even did reviews for a while - and I had never heard of this film. Was curious if it is just a gap in my knowledge or if it's a Stateside phenomenon only!
Agreed, I'm from the UK too and up to about 5 or 6 years ago (just before Doug Walker reviewed the sequel), I had never heard of this film. I've never seen it shown on British TV even nowadays and it doesn't seem to be talked about at all over here.
