Just bought this lens for my A6300. Going to SE Asia for a 2 month walk around and this glass fits the bill for price, weight and sharpness. I completely agree that it's a nice everyday travel lens. Nice review. Thanks.
Great review I like your laid back style. I did a thorough review of this lens on my channel a couple of weeks ago also and like you I did all outdoors. Never liked watching a lens review where someone sit at a table for 15 minutes. I was trying to guess what city you were filming in still haven't figured out I'm guessing some part of the East Coast of Florida.
+Raychristofer Thanks much, it actually took me a while to figure out how to be myself in front of a camera. :) Yes, I like to get out on location whenever possible to shoot video, so everything isn't shot at the dining room table! Your guess was on target - this was shot in Seaside, Florida (in the Panhandle). Cheers
Hey Sean, Im looking to buy this lens for a walkaround wedding portraits/details. Do you think itll perform well in dimmer lit reception halls/rooms? In general too, a good buy for that aspect? Id rather get the 35mm but wayyyy too expensive right now for me. I have at Sony A7ii as well, just looking for a wider angle lens for wedding group shots, details, reception hall shots. Thanks! Love the video!
I am very new to photography and as a start I have bought the a6000 with the kit lense. I am now looking to buy a zoom lense either the 55-210 or 18-250. But my question to you is if I should go for the 30mm or 19mm if my main purpose to have a lense for lanscapes, travel and indoor use? Hope you can help :)
Hi! The review is great.. Just still have a doubt. is it meant to be for FF, or I have to use the APS-C mode on my a7s? I really want it but I need to know that.. And if it is for aps-c mode, will it look like a wide 19mm lens or it will be with a 1.5x crop?
It's an APS-C lens, but the lens provides more coverage than just the APS-C image frame. So, you can shoot in FF mode on your A7S - the resulting image will have vignetting, but crop away (or use Clear Image Zoom to zoom past) the vignetting and you will end up with 22-24mm field of view - still very wide. Remove the rear baffle for even more coverage. czcams.com/video/4o46pqs4i3k/video.html
I loved my Rokinon 12 mm f2.0 but couldn't handle the manual focus. This has become a good substitute and I am very pleased with it on my A6000 body. Highly recommended to all. Thanks for your review.
Yes, I have the Sony also (I suffer from Gear Acquisition Syndrome) and appreciate the 1.8 aperture and OSS. Nice to have OSS in a prime! It's sharp too.
+Matt Jackson what is your 50 On? Micro Four thirds? Or Aps-c? Or Full frame? i ask so i can figure out your 50's = mm after Crop? I Have a Vary exotic 50 Better then anything else i'v ever tried & nothing compares its just one bad ass lens but on M/4/3 It becomes double its original mm do to exactly Double 2X Crop Turn its 42 into 84mm :- i wish i could adapt this mean monster on my Nikon D800 WOWWW Or even a APS-C Sensor as it would become Again Something with another added angle of fun,, =it would act as something not even on the market :- ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Panasonic LUMIX G Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm f/1.2 ASPH Power OIS Lens I LOVE THIS =ITS BOTH BEAUTY AND BEAST :-
I'm getting a Sony A6000 in a couple of days and thinking about getting this lens. Theres no other adapter or anything I need to use this lens is there? I can just buy the lens? Great video by the way - keep it up.
Hi there, thank you for this test! I have an odd question. I see you use the Sigmas on a fullframe body. I won't ask you regarding the vignette as you covered this in your reviews already, but can you maybe tell me how they perform in video mode on the fullframe camera? Best, Lucas
+Lucas Pfaff Hi Lucas, video is discussed a bit here: czcams.com/video/wTrC8nH5xDA/video.html I guess the major downside of using this lens for video are the lack of OSS (not a problem with an A7 Mark2 series with in body image stabilization) and the lack of aperture ring. Otherwise it does pretty well. You can see clips shot with the lens and an A7ii in the video. It does vignette in FF mode.
+Loloho.Photo Hi there, thanks for the quick reply :) I don't mind the OSS beeing out, I just need a cheapish autofocus lens. What I see from your video though is the "severe" breathing/pumping while focuissing (you see that well with the Porsche in the frame). Hm. The 30mm is more interesting to begin with so I have to see if the breathing is an issue there too. Thank you! :)
+Horimakianca yuko The 30 is probably *slightly* sharper but they are both sharp. The question is whether you want a wide or a normal focal length. Also, if you are interested in the 30 f/2.8, you should check out the new 30mm f/1.4 -- it's faster and is getting good reviews. amzn.to/1Sbtztb
So there are not problem to use it on a7k when you use the crop mode? Because I'm jumping to a7k from my a6000 (keeping it), and If I don't need to sell my lenses is really cool. :)
Hey man, i'm planning to buy the a6000 in a couple of days. Not sure which combination to go with. Body + dual kit + sigma 30mm 1.4 or body + sigma 19mm + sigma 30mm 1.4. Please advise.
+soumyajit paul Hmm, honestly I am more of a prime lens guy, but I'm thinking you might be happiest starting with the dual kit and Sigma 30 1.4. You would have 16-210mm covered with the kit lenses in good light and the Sigma 30 for indoors, lowlight, whenever you want the bokeh, etc. You can always pick up a cheap Sigma 19 later if you wish (my 1st gen model was really cheap).
definitely getting rid of my dslr and buy a sony a5100. thanks to this review "sigma to the rescue" affordable lens for an e mount. im tired of carrying my dslr its heavy, this definitely solves my problem a5100+sigma19mm = 350 grams. thanks for the review this is a problem solver.
Brandon wasnt able to buy yet because im tempted with the lumix lx100 having a 1.7 aperture which is very important for me when it comes to low light and also has 24-70 focal length. How about you are you satisfied with it? 3.5 and 2.8 aperture has not much difference in low light when I compared with my sigma lens but when i compared my 35mm prime 1.8 that's when i was tempted with the lx100.
If the lens rattles that means there are two surfaces rubbing against each other and that can be alarming, even more so for a camera lens as one never knows what the long term effects could be. I suggest that one stays away from ANY cameras or lenses that are loose or rattles and invest in proper photographic equipment such as Canon or Nikon
+Philip Andreicuk It's a nice little lens, but it certainly doesn't seem like a piece of equipment built to last 40 years (which is the case with my old Nikkors).
To be honest I have never tested this lens and it may be perfect, so I am not being judgemental. But I have 6 prime manual focus Nikon lenses built in the seventies ( before Nikon went geeky ) that will last multiple lifetimes which I doubt sincerely that this will
+Philip Andreicuk I have a number of vintage Nikkors also, and many of them perform wonderfully on a 24MP sensor. However, many of the build quality criticisms of this lens could also be levied against *modern* Nikkors - the use of plastic in construction, the lack of an aperture ring, and increased build complexity (with vulnerable VR and AF motors) means that these modern lenses will likely be poor long term investments (or at the very least will require servicing in the future). Cheers
Yes I quite agree with your analogy of modern lenses. Plastic construction. complexity in build design and vulnerable AF and VR motors On top of all that most of the lenses now are not built in Japan but outsourced to China or some other third world country. Nikon no longer support older lenses with the first generation of AF motors so if your 600mm lens stops working you are basically "stuffed" or pay £8ooo for a new one (Nice one Nikon). Where as the older lenses made in the 70's and 80's that where built like tanks have manual focusing and have nothing to go wrong with will outlast the modern ones any day. I have 6 "vintage" lenses ranging from 24mm to 200mm and I would not part with them for anything. Just hope Nikon still keeps spares for there D700 in the future for that is a wonderful camera, the last one they built before going "geeky" Thanks for your post.
+MT Li Unfortunately I dropped my 16-50 kit lens at the city market in Madrid, Spain - it hasn't worked since! (Note to self: secure camera before having wine with lunch). I'll try to get my hands on a new one for a test.
+Loloho.Photo That lens suck and I have that as well. Sigmas are great for IQ and that pancake lens made me think that buying the A6000 was a waste. Good thing I tried the Touit line then pulled the trigger on the Ziess 24mm 1.8 which to me is the best lens. Difference being it focus fast and can shoot video without the focusing noise from the Sigma. Also that nifty 50mm 1.8 you should do a vid putting up against the Sigma 60mm 2.8
It's an APS-C lens, but the lens provides more coverage than just the APS-C image frame. Great video and channel. Keep the videos coming.
Just bought mine. Thanks for your review, it helped a lot.
Thanks for your post, hope you like the lens!
Thank you so much for the great review!
Great tuto. Clear with no music to distract. I like the "...cathedral in europe...". You guys, over there, don't have any ?
Really good review! Thank you, helped a lot :)
I have it (in the Art DN version) and the Sigma 30mm Art DN as well for my a6000. great stuff. Best bang for your buck

Have all three on m43 ,19, 30 and 60. Love the 19 and 60 combo. And my 60 is very sharp.
Right on, the 60 is the sharpest of the bunch. Great lens.

Thanks for this video!)
So, will it work on all focus settings? I know when I use my adapter, I'm limited on what I can use compared to native lenses.
I loved my Rokinon 12 mm f2.0 but couldn't handle the manual focus. This has become a good substitute and I am very pleased with it on my A6000 body. Highly recommended to all. Thanks for your review.
+bt10ant thanks much, I agree with you about manual focus. I much prefer working with AF on a daily basis.
Do this lens have manual focus?
My 19mm f/2.8 lens seems to focus best on my A6500 when I have Center Focus selected...
I have the Sigma 60mm and love it. Thanks for the review
+Matt Jackson I have the 60mm also and the review is in the pipeline. These lenses are great value.
I got the sony 50 millimeter prime just because I wanted the 1.8 aperture I do night time stuff

If I shoot only street & life style photography in this lens so what is the performance of this lens?
Is the AF audible during Video?

I just bought this lense and it says for micro four third. Does that mean i have to buy adapter to be able to use it for my sony a6500 camera ?
You bought the wrong version. Return and buy E-mount version.
would i be able to use it if i just buy an adapter ?

useful lens, but not top shelf material.
Sorry to hear you suffer from GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). No cure for the tech stuff oriented. Take care.
+CITAP1 It's a very expensive condition. Fortunately I have an understanding and supportive wife.
We are both lucky men.
