Thank you, because it's great to see Sony reviews from you!

Great points you brought up and thank you for sharing sample images. I don't like it when reviewers sit there and just talk about a product but don't actually show any content so thank you for that.

I think the AF hunting in AF-C is largely due to AF-C utilizing hybrid AF and the three ART lenses featured here primarily utilize contrast AF, aside from phase-detect AF in just the centre. The lenses will hunt much less in AF-S mode. I also find that it helps to turn off Face Detect and Lock-On AF.

Great review Dustin. I use both the 19mm f/2.8 and 30mm f/1.4 on my a6300 and I totally agree with the great performance per dollar.

Thanks for reviewing the DN series, not well known but as you say, lovely optics and quite a value. I used them on my a6000 for quite a while and my memory is that they only have one single PDAF point in the center, which is why you found them to have uneven autofocus in continuous mode -- it was probably mostly using contrast detection. Also, if my memory is correct, you don't even get that single PDAF point unless you do a firmware update. I always hoped that Sigma might create another update to allow them to cooperate with PDAF systems beyond just that single center point, perhaps they did?

I purchased both the 19mm and 30mm f2.8 lenses back when they were first released and they both give surprisingly good results. The sharpness in particular was very impressive. Many buying these lenses might be concerned by the " rattle " of the lens elements when the lens is either unmounted or the camera is powered down. It's nothing to worry about, once the camera is powered up the rattle goes away lol 😃

Couldn't agree more with your findings. I've used all but the 19mm lens on the A6500 and am consistently pleased (or perhaps 'blown away', in modern parlance!) with their performance - almost on par with the Sony/Zeiss full frame offerings, like the 55mm f1.8 and 28mm F2. The DN lenses represent huge bang-for-buck IQ and are highly recommended.

Hey Dustin! To avoid AF hunting with Face Tracking in video like this one, try to put AF-C in wide area mode and shift the af point to the side you want to keep in focus. You can also try single point small and position it on your face/body in the frame.

Hi dustin. Great video. With the 30mm 1.4 were you noticing any of that distortion in video mode? obviously this cant be corrected as easily in post. bit worrying

Thank you Dustin. I recently bought Sony A7ii and was struggling to decide between Sony 50mm F1.8 and Sigma 30mm F1.4. Obviously, they are very different but I was thinking if I could just get the Sigma 30mm F1.4 as a general utility lens and skip the 50mm prime lens. I think I have made my mind and would go for Sigma 30mm.

I just got the Sigma 30mm 2.8 for my a6500 and noticed the AF only works in the center (in AF-C)? Why is that? Does it do this with the 60mm version? Is it just me that finds it annoying? It’s a nice lens other than that.

Hi! I'm looking for lens to my a6000. It will be used for product photography. It will be a quite big objects 40 - 80 cm x 30-60 cm. Could you tell me which sigma will do this job the best?
