    Thanks for the review! I had the opportunity to buy this lens yesterday on the dutch E-bay (Marktplaats) for € 100,00. So a quick comparison with my A6000 +16-50 kit-zoomlens and the Sigma 30 mm f2.8 was obvious, and indeed the prime lens has a better image quality. Already I'm pleased with this bargain.

    It strikes me as a nice, budget walkaround lens and would be great for that purpose. Kind of for street photography situations.

    This lens needs a version 2 with full PDAF coverage and a weather sealing gasket. It's a great compact lens. It works better on the A6400 compared to the A6000 because of the 425 contrast detect points. This lens uses contrast detect outside the centre area.
    Using the AF-S gives better performance than when on AF-C.

    • @makagio
      @makagio Před měsícem

      I just got this lens for my a6000 as it was really cheap and brand new old stock.
      Yeah the PDAF seems to be only in the centre and good lighting and and works better in AF-S

    Nice review video. I'm surprised how tiny the front element of the lens is. I always hear good things about Sigma lenses, especially the ones for the E-mount system.

    I bought this 2.8 mostly because of its size for travel purposes. It is incredibly sharp for the money though. I used the savings to purchase a 50mm 1.4 FD canon lens and adapter

    I just got this lens and its great, love how compact it is and its cheap. My only gripe is the autofocus isn't perfect, I'm not much of an autofocus guy so may be doing something wrong but I find a lot of the time it just isn't sharp, in manual it's very nice and sharp though.

      @TrueGaxArtz Před 7 lety

      Kevin Fitzsimmons the 50 f1.8 is almost like an 85mm pretty zoomed in, its hard to frame a shot without stepping back as far as the moon, i'd go for the 35 f1.8

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  Před 7 lety +1

      I would say it depends on what you shoot most. If you do video, SEL35 is great, but if you do pictures, the Sigma you have is very good. I agree with TrueGaxArtz that the 50mm is a tough focal length to use, especially indoors.

    • @JamesWillmus
      @JamesWillmus Před 5 lety

      What mode is the camera in? If all your images in low light are grainy, blurred, and have a weird color, then I'll bet your shooting in full Auto mode. If that's the case, you'll have to learn to shoot in full manual mode (where you dial in all the settings rather than letting the camera decide). Thankfully there's plenty of channels on CZcams that have tutorial on getting out of Auto.

I i love 11-20 2.8 tokina too. All this lences with compact pholosophy of a6XXX models. In other way if you using only one lence, and all you photos is prortraits i probably chose new sigma 30mm f1.4 over but its not mathc better for normal photographers. What lens did you use to record this video? Do you think that 18 105mm f4 is the best lens I could buy for video as a beginner? Thanks!

      18-105 is a very versatile and well-received lens. Definitely a kit lens substitute for the ambitious beginner.

    Hey dude love your videos! I just subscribed! I was wondering if you could clear something up for me though. I have an a6500 and am looking for a few good all round lenses. I am completely new to the camera scene - however am confused with lense size. My question is; Do I need to multiply all lenses sizes for my sony a6500 by x1.5 for the true focal length for my camera? (even though they say it is an APSC lense) or is this already taken into consideration? Thanks! Ps (sorry if this seems like a stupid question!)

    • @DDHDTV
      @DDHDTV Před 7 lety +1

      Ben Warner Yes you'll need to multiply all given focal lengths with 1.5 even though they say it's for APSC.

      Legend thank you!

    • @DDHDTV
      @DDHDTV Před 7 lety +1

      Ben Warner You're welcome :)
      Keep in mind that some will me smartasses and correct in the way that the focal length does not change (uh duh?). It's just the field of view that changes :)
      The focal length always uses full frame (35mm format) as reference, that is why you multiply thr crop factor even though it's an APSC lense.
      And while we're at it: Since you're using a 6500, I'd recommend you take a look at the Sigma 30 1.4 :D

      Brilliant - Yeah im currently spreadsheeting all the reviews on all the lenses I can at the moment lol. The sigma seems to beat the sony 35 so ill pick that up! I need the best range of lenses that cover all types of Photography (including astrophotography) as I will be travelling soon for a year! so will need a good all round few I reckon. Can I mooch you for more info on your thoughts?

      I was thinking the 18-105 for convenience (plus it seems to take great shots and a good price) just need something decent for a prime, macro and the stars!

    pls help me? My camera is the a6300, which should I pick for the portrait lens, cheap aps-c lens like sony 50mm 1.8 ? Or FE lens like Zeiss 55mm 1.8?
    I need the best quality, what happen if FE lens put into aps-c camera? Is it still good?

    • @JoshuaKoerner
      @JoshuaKoerner Před 7 lety

      Yes it's still good, and the 50 f/1.8 for APS-C sensors isn't very good. That being said, you still don't need to spend $1000 on the 55 f/1.8 from zeiss to get great IQ. There's loads of options out there

  • @qdogg290
    @qdogg290 Před 7 lety

    I've heard from many people that the 19mm is the bastard child of the f/2.8 family -- in other words, not as sharp as the 30mm and 60mm. Have you found this? The 19 is the only one I own and I haven't gotten a chance to test out the others. Do you suspect the 19mm would outperform the kit lens at 19mm as you just showed the 30mm to outperform the kits lens at its equal focal length? Many thanks for these great videos!

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  Před 7 lety

      The 19mm is the one that has disappointed me most. I think as far as sharpness is concerned, it will be sharper than the kit lens for sure, but the focus "breathing" is the issue that makes it a dealbreaker for me personally.

    • @qdogg290
      @qdogg290 Před 7 lety

      Thanks for the response. Was the focus "breathing" the only reason it disappointed or was the image quality not on par with the others as well?

      It's a high end, fast aperture, ASP-C lens for $400. If Canon or Nikon made something like this it would be somewhere around $1000.

  • @swonghobby

    Spend the extra $100 on the 30mm 1.4, the low lights are so much better, the bokeh is so much nicer.

    • @swonghobby
      @swonghobby Před 7 lety

      TechnologyMafia I'm sure it's very similar in many ways, but the 2.8 and 1.4 is 2 stops in light. When shooting indoors, it's really a must. For an extra $100 investment, it's well worth it. Not going to break the bank and less then dinner for 3 these days. My perception is if you have the 1.4, you also have the 2.8, but not the other way around. I can't tell you how Manu times that extra 2 stops of lights save my images from camera shake. It's only slightly bigger and as you know, the 1.4 lens was voted lens of the year by so may photographers and reviewers. In a long run, it save people the money from needing to upgrade

    • @ArthurR
      @ArthurR  Před 7 lety

      Have you checked your ISO settings? Shutter speed? Are you filming in poor lighting? All of those could be factors.

      TechnologyMafia i take a lowest ISO on the setting, even i shoot on the bright sun there's still have much noise but if shoot with my 50mm sony f1.8 lens also have noise but not much like the sigma.

    • @JoshuaKoerner
      @JoshuaKoerner Před 7 lety

      That's because you have to color grade that footage in order for it to be useable. It's not noisy, it just looks to the untrained eye like it's noisy. Look up tutorials, I've got one as well, on how to grade S-Log footage
