You're actually one of the few CZcams reviewers that reviewed this rare gem for m43. I remember reading the mtf chart of this lens and it is actually sharper than the Olympus 75mm at f2.8. It made sense as it was originally designed for Sony APS-C and later modified for m43. The sharpness is achieved by avoiding the outer corner of the lens, thanks to the the 2X crop.

Nice review and samples! Perfect focal length for the graffiti video shots. Great color/contrast. And I agree, tremendous bang/$, might have to buy one again :)

Just a quick tip for dealing with the smooth focus ring - just wrap a couple of thick rubber bands around the ring and that will provide a good purchase on the ring when using in manual focus mode .

The rubber band tip is always a good one, thanks!

It's a remarkable lens, which I bought with its two companions - the 19mm and 30m optics.
I found it preferable to the Olympus 45m 1.8 and have since sold the zuiko. The slightly longer focal length has had its disadvantages with being a bit too tight in some situations, but overall the lens is perfect for most portrait shoots and for capturing that elusive "existensial moment."

And I still haven't tried the 19 and 30! But yes, I use this lens regularly, it's almost glued to my GX80!

If you like the 60mm, you need the other two to complete your set. I have all three, which I use with G81 and GX80, and can confirm that the results are stunning. I've used the Olympus 12-40 f/2.8 pro, and the Sigmas wipe the floor with it 🤗

  • @keithspillett
    @keithspillett Před 4 lety +1

I also have the 19 and 30mm versions as well, and the quality of all three, right from wide open, is absolutely fantastic. The Olympus 12-40 pro zoom isn't as sharp as the 19 and 30 at the same focal length and aperture!

One day I need to get my hands on those lenses!

@@DamianBrown I agree with Keith - I own all three on the DN ART lenses for M43 - I find the 30mm and the 60mm to be really excellent - I don't think the 19mm is quite as good - but it is certainly "good enough" - I really don't use the 19mm much as I also now have purchased the 17mm f/1.8 Zuiko lens - but if I needed to, I would certainly not hesitate to use the 19mm.

Great video, cool shots and and it looks like you got a bargain! Burning question from an Olympus user - can you tell me if the Fuji output offers something substantially over and above m43 or should I invest in quality m43 glass, but lose the size advantage?

It looks a good lens but I’m not really a fan of the focal length. It looks like a good value lens.
I went with the Olympus 45mm f1.8 and couldn’t be happier. It’s all subjective but I find the focal range more comfortable and flexible. It may be the best value for money lens I have bought.

This is a "God Tear" quality lens, maybe the best buy out there ever for the money and is super sharp and more super sharp...just buy it,and it will put a smile on your face every time you use it :)

Hi Damian, very good review thanks. I've been using this lens ever since it came out and I fully agree it's a super lens, very sharp indeed and great VFM. I'd like to ask you which hood you bought for it as I've seen quite a e a few 46 mm metal screw in hoods and want to make sure that I don't get one that vignettes. Kind regards, Leigh

Thanks so much for this information. I am switching to MFT this year from APS-C Sony and I worry that it may be too narrow at 120mm but it might work out as a portrait lens as you've shown in the vid.
I can buy it used for around $120 from amazon.
Do you think that if I will use a macro extension tube with this lens the lens will perform and as sharp as the M.Zuiko 60mm macro?
I do not have the money to purchase the oly 60mm macro at the moment. Thanks.
