  • How-to replace internal battery on a Zaxcom Nova 1. If your NOVA 1 is no longer holding accurate Time and Date, it’s probably due for a new coin battery.
NOTE: The Nova 2 requires a different battery (see link below). Also to get the Nova2 chassis open, you'll need to remove the 2 bolts from the rear DB15 connector, and to reach the coin battery you will need to remove the center plate from it's stand-offs (with Nova2 the coin battery is set closer to the front of the unit (behind Encoder #3).

A note for NOVA2 users: I own both a Nova 1 and Nova 2, I took a look inside both units and can confirm that they use different batteries and these coin batteries are located in different places... Nova 1, which requires a CR2330, is located near the rear and can be accessed without removing the middle plate. However the Nova 2 (which requires a CR2032) is located closer to the front panel (behind encoder #3) and does require the middle plate to come off the stand-offs. Also to get the Nova 2 chassis open, you'll need to remove the 2 bolts on the rear DB15 connector.

A note for opening the Nova (1 or 2)... Of the 10 small screws holding the chassis to the front panel, the 2 screws that land above the F7 button and below the F10 button are cut a little shorter than the others. It is necessary to use these shorter screws in those 2 locations (if the longer screws are used, they may put pressure on those buttons - causing them to function improperly (or not at all). If your 'F#' buttons don't always respond, Zaxcom recommends loosening the chassis screws near those buttons. Personally, I just leave those 2 screws out altogether.
