  • Boston-based Sound Mixer Jim Keaney reviews and demonstrates how the HollyLand MARS T1000 Communication System can be used to integrate communications between on-set crew and remote Directors/Producers/Clients participating and/or monitoring via videochat from their homes. First, I'll review this comms system and then talk in detail about how we can use this system to achieve smoother communications across both sides of a video chat.

    Jim that’s such a sweet set up, great video. I think one thing to add to the wish list is Dante capability, even in some sort of pro model. You could install Via, putting zoom on the network, and feed the comms system and your IFB feed through it.

    Very nice info on a system solution I never heard of. Also great video quality, good lighting and of course great sound.

    Just what I needed! I'm wiring this into a production intercom base station. I immediately see what I got wrong. Thanks!

    Nice work-a-round for those smaller productions with remote "guests". But you just made me add a new item to my list of inspect-if-it-will-make-my--actual-whislist :-P

    Yahhh great video Jim! Much better than the Cyberdyne Systems model 101. The T-1000, advanced prototype, a mimetic poly alloy...liquid metal. Get down!

    Nice product review.
    Instead of building crazy cables it is better to use a small bud box in between. I built similar device connection with ethercon and XLR m/f panel mount connectors. And get a small class compliant USB buss powered audio interface that accepts line and or mic level signals.

    I have problems - the sound is very quiet and I can't hear myself when I say it is uncomfortable. is this a problem for everyone?

  • @teramusicofficial-musicfor6465

    Awesome!

    Jim, great video this is what I have been looking for. Do you think that the output cable of the T1000 that you created could be connected to a Dante network using the AVIO AES3 cable?

  • @SheaHarris

    I guess you can't do this set up AND connect a second T1000 to it at the same time?

      James Parish the pinout is in the T1000 manual on Hollylands website... pg.5 www.hollyland-tech.com/u_file/download/20_02_24/978f08ff99.pdf

    Shame the audio is so crappy. If it was reasonable quality (and better battery life) this would be pretty solid for sound crew comms

    • @HubLocationSound
      @HubLocationSound  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah... Comm audio is inherently lo-fi. I wish I owned a walkie to compare it with. I think when we hear it against my "hi-fi" mic in this video, it's startlingly inferior. The crew that tested these Hollyland Comms found them to be a noticeable improvement over the walkie they were used to.

      @MayerAd Před 3 lety +1

      Maybe we’re using inferior walkies. I’m an EMT and on an ambulance and mobile radios, quality is absolutely excellent. Granted these walkies cost about $1,000 each, but...well...
