Nice presentation Jim. I won't be switching over but nice to see some of the cool technology being offered from Zaxcom.

Hey Jim, love your videos! would be great to see some of these re recording tutorials as how you explained you were recording the VO downstairs, while the TX's recorded upstairs and then played back from the TX's to record. Would that have been 2 takes with the same timecode? how did that not confuse the recorder?

Hi Myriam, thanks! The short answer: No, it doesn't confuse the recorder, nor negatively effect Post's ingestion process...
      Long answer/explanation...
In the Nova's advanced settings, you can decide if you want the Re-Record's timecode to match the original timecode (of whatever it's replacing) or if you want it to use the current TOD timecode. During a Re-Record, that new file name is identical to the name of the take it's ReRecording except with an "R-1" at the end, and (if you use the current/TOD timecode) that file includes a metadata note in the sound report that tells the Editor exactly how far they need to "TC OFFSET" (nudge/slide) that clip earlier on their timeline (ex. -00:03:09:24). I personally use the 'use-original-timecode' option (called "NO TC OFFSET") for my ReRecord pref. The Nova can have 2 files with overlapping timecode. I'm not sure how Zaxcom figured it out, but I believe they implemented some behavior that starts Nova ReRecorded files on Tracks 17-32 - so if they're imported together in a batch, they wouldn't have multiple audio tracks trying to land on top of each other.
From Zaxcom President on that: "The track numbers will be offset by a fixed number like 16 for the Nova. So that the re-record of a 16 track recording will start at track 17. If you only want to deliver a subset of re-recorded tracks you can enable any number of tracks you want for the re-record and the extra tracks should just show up in post if you do the re-record."
In the story I mentioned (simultaneously rolling on VO while they rolled a scene without me)... It's a non issue for the reasons I mentioned above, but also because the VO isn't sync sound and would likely be hand-dragged into whatever Premiere Project it was going to. Long-winded but I hope that sheds some light. -Jim
