To me that is insane since these people are working face to face with the general public and in my mind should be the people who get guaranteed health-care. And, of course, I made too much to get Medicaid but not enough to afford regular health insurance (ACA helped a bit with that and forced me to get on insurance and raised Medicaid income minimums, except in those red states that refused to raise them even though the federal government was paying).

    My first day in microeconomics, the professor said making a million dollars is simple. You buy one million bags of flour for $1 and sell them for $2. Someone raised their hand and said it’s not easy to buy 1 million bags of flour. And the professor said, “of course it’s not easy, and I never said it was. I said it was *simple* and it is. Simple and easy are not the same thing. For someone who already has a million dollars, making another million dollars is simple and easy. For someone without a million dollars, the process hasn’t changed but the difficulty has.”
    And that has stayed with me.

    • @Sigmund_Froid

    • @LGBTQLegend
      @LGBTQLegend Před 19 dny +39

      Here's the thing though. You'd have to find someone who will buy a million bags of flour. Otherwise you're out of money and stuck with things you don't need. The reason it's easy in America for the rich to get richer isn't because they're rich. It's because the system is designed to work in their favor, from the banks to the politicans, everyone is in on taking money from the poor and middle class to feed to the rich. Pretending millionaires and billionaires got money just from smart business decisions is completely wrong.

    • @tabathaalshalhoub1653
      @tabathaalshalhoub1653 Před 19 dny +55

      @@LGBTQLegend you’re right, except you wouldn’t have to sell a million bags of flour to ONE person. You’d be selling them in the marketplace. You could sell them to 10 people, 1,486 people, or even a million people.
      Otherwise, yes, it’s easier for someone who already has a network and insider knowledge to make money even starting from “nothing” (when he’s not).

    • @LGBTQLegend
      @LGBTQLegend Před 19 dny

      @@tabathaalshalhoub1653Most money rich people get is from stock market and investments and in the US they pay politicans to basically rig the stocks so they always make the right choices. There was a whole uproar about this when a journalist uncovered that US politicians were using the stock market to make themselves richer. The other reason they do this is because the capital tax rate is extremely low so they can better avoid taxes too.
      And then there's the fact big businesses constantly get bailed out by the US government every single time they lose too much money... The whole thing is a sham.

      This divorce went through, but she won custody, which shouldn't surprise anyone (also because women win custody far more easily than even the best fathers, but here it's a win!). This man should never have been allowed to create life or saddle another human being with his sperm responsibilities or just failures as a human being. Now this seemingly long-term abused woman has to raise two little boys without a loving father for them or a supportive partner for her.
      A bit victim-blamey here, but she honestly should have withheld from taking his gherkin one more time after he flipped over calling her incestuous when Huntyr was born! Instead, she was his manipulated enabler for far too long. Those poor little guys!

      @@pistachioraclethat's not a 'bit' victim blamey, it's very victim blamey. If she had been going through it for years we have no idea, after the first child, how much he may have already messed with her mind & caused her to doubt herself & her own, albeit logical, version of reality. The fact she seemed to clearly think they would be able to talk it through strongly suggests that she still had not fully grasped how unhinged this guy was. Emotionally abusive relationships can be far harder to navigate or leave than people allow for, your mind is literally being messed with, hot & cold, anger & love bombing, with your own personal vulnerabilities & anxieties are played on. The positive is, the trash took itself out, everyone can now clearly see how deranged this guy is, this lady can heal, be a far better momma now, & as she seems like quite a reasonable person in her communication & logic in all other aspects, can absolutely find a supportive partner later when she's ready. But hay happy families come in all sizes. We don't know what other support this woman has & there's nothing to say her boys can't actually be happy now dad is out the picture.👌

When pointing out that there aren't enough "better jobs" (according to his standards) his stance is "Well whoever put in the most work to deserve it will get it". He refuses to answer if he thinks that jobs with 300 applicants for one job only have one stand out candidate.
      Of course he also spent the first several months of Covid bitching how hard his life was because he couldn't borrow fancy cars from work anymore. Pretending to be poor can never work, because integral to poverty is the knowledge you have no access to anything and can't escape, which affects decision making. Both from the fight or flight hormone issues that affect your brain function as well as what a rational agent chooses differently between reward and savings based on whether or not there is actually a way to get ahead.
    Even ppl who grew up wealthy and then became truly poor, often think and make decisions like ppl who have money; while those who grew up poor but now are well off often still function like poor ppl. No matter how truly poor my husband got it never effected him much emotionally because he always *believed* it was temporary, because he grew up secure. Whereas no matter how much resources I have, I will never feel safe. Ever.

    Regarding the Hitler poll, schools do not often accurately portray most historical atrocities, and some of that can be really hard to get across without specifics, so when people see historical fictions about some things, they are surprised and somewhat unbelieving. I took my son to see the movie Hidden Figures when he was in middle school, like age 14, and this movie only mildly portrays racism, to be honest. It doesn't show any of the violence, just the attitudes and how pervasive and universal they are. When the movie was over he asked "was racism really that bad back then?" I had to explain that yes, and so much worse.

So, the meaning of the poll is pretty clear if someone has paid even a minor amount of attention to recent history. The fact that so many people think he's not as bad as portrayed is appalling. Most of the things he approved and thought up, and his actions and attitude towards anyone not Aryan is revolting enough to make any person with a modicum of compassion and empathy toward other humans quite nauseated.

    FYI regarding the planted alcohol evidence: In the US it is illegal to have an open container within reach of the driver. So an emptied, therefore open, container on the passenger seat is its own offense, even if the driver has 0.0% BAC. Then the officer will generally pressure the suspect into performing roadside tests, which can be highly subjectively scored and are hard to pass while completely sober. I've seen dash cam footage of officers failing completely sober drivers on a roadside test simply because they wanted to. The best course of action (depending on your state) is to refuse a roadside test, insist on blood or urine test, you will then be arrested on suspicion of DUI and brought down to the precinct, then if you are dead sober charges will be dropped. It's an enormous inconvenience, but US police are incentivised to think of suspects as already guilty and then this BS happens.

      In Texas you can actually have your license to drive revoked/suspended for a time depending on the number of offenses for refusing the field sobriety tests. They have to take you back to the precinct anyway to do a BAC test on their certified machine, or a blood test for it to be court admissible anyways. So here at least your best course of action is to fail the tests cooperate with police then hope your alcohol levels have gone down by a lot by the time you've reached the station. You know shy of just not driving when you're drunk.

    • @searchingfororion
      @searchingfororion Před 19 dny +19

      Texas is a "no refusal" state meaning since it is a violation of your 5th amendment rights to be forced to submit to a breathalyzer test as it is a search upon your person, not doing so when compelled by the police at any time is an automatic loss of your license. I was TABC certified ages ago. I can't remember if it was an extremely long and immediate suspension or full expulsion - but either way you lost your 'privilege' to operate a motor vehicle in motor vehicle in exchange for your rights... for a *very* long time (and also a hefty fine paid to the state monthly for the duration, sometimes longer, than the time allotted when you *should* have been able to gain the right to your license back due to the immense financial cost and paid-in-full requirement in order to do so.)
      Anecdotally, out of everywhere I've lived in this country people actively drink *while* driving more frequently and in a higher density here more than I've seen anywhere else.
      It's almost as if more severe punitive risk/result is *not* a deterrent to committing the act. Funny that. If only there had been studies on this subject...

    I've been in hospital care for half a year for my ED and had therapy before and still have therapy now, a year after being discharged. I've been on psych meds for four years. I got to the general practitioner every month for a check up (weight, ECG, blood values, etc). I'll be in therapy a long time.

Without European health care, I would've missed out on life-saving care these 20 years and a bunch of essential medications which now enables me to live alone with my cat in my own rental apartment. Without health care I would've died at 16. Today I'm 36.

    Sigh - this thing with the California minimum wage hike just slays me. Like, how DARE they try to give fast-food workers a living wage?
    So you have to pay an extra less-than-50-cents for the occasional burger, and in exchange, the fast food worker who makes it for you gets a little closer to having the minimum needed for survival? I think that's a pretty good trade-off, personally (especially considering how much crap that same fast food worker probably has to deal with every day due to Karens just like this one!).
    Also, I wonder if the people who complain about stuff like this would be equally outraged if a law raising their specific jobs' salaries were passed. I'm guessing that they would magically be all for **that** - suddenly, raising the minimum wage would be the best idea ever.

    I've seen that "Air Force Defender" post on multiple videos from different channels now. As a veteran it still makes me cringe everytime. He's not doing a single thing right for clearing a house of an intruder. Standing in a lighter area looking into a dark area with no light in hand is a good way to get turned into swiss cheese if there's an armed person in there. Yelling clear just tells the invader where you are. Every SWAT and soldier knows you go in making as little noise as possible so you don't get ambushed by whoever is inside.

  • @drtaverner
    @drtaverner Před 19 dny +157

    IMO, the only people who need to "clear" the house like that "defender" are:
    a) Posers who think they're hot shit.
    b) Ex-military/Law Enforcement with PTSD.
    c) Pre-military/Law Enforcement who just learned it and feels the need to practice/show off.
    Basically, if you've never been professionally trained in clearing a house, you're just a dangerous asshole.

Not only is the price increase for most items on the menu basically negligible (they range from 'didn't change' to '25 cents'); but In n Out SPECIFICALLY has always paid a chunk above minimum wage even by California standards, and remain highly competitive as a place to work because of it. Calling out "clear" is supposed to be used to inform _other responders_ that _the entire area_ (or the part you have been assigned to search) _has been determined to be safe._
    If you are the only one searching, there is no reason to yell "clear" in the first place, and more importantly, if you are doing it more than once, that means that _you have no idea what the word even means and are using it wrong._ This guy was obviously never actually trained at all and is probably just doing what he saw somebody do on TV once.

    He wasn’t getting a single call back. He ended up changing his last name legally to something very basic and common. Part of the reason was that he was tired of people not being able to pronounce it, and the other reason was that his “family name dies with him” as he’s the last male in his line (absolutely no kids for us).

You're supposed to fish it out afterwards as it's stewed or boiled like tea with a slotted spoon or something like that, so that person had a small point. Sorry if I make any mistakes as I don't usually work with bay leaves but I do know that Bayleaf is the evolved form of Chikorita, joke intended.

    25:48 Yes. That's the argument. People like this think that jobs like fast food or retail are "starter jobs" for high school or college students that teach you what working is like, and give you a little bit of disposable income that isn't from your parents, but you're still expected to get support from elsewhere and not be able to actually provide for yourself, because it's just a "starter job" until you finish college and get a "real job". They don't think fast food or retail workers should be able to live off their jobs, because in their minds those jobs are just for kids, and paying them a living wage would make those kids "entitled" since they're probably still living with their parents so they can spend more of their money on fun things. (And that's not even talking about anyone who's forced to move out and get a job when they turn 18.)
