Installing an Intake Manifold on a Ford 302

  • Today I'm installing an Edelbrock Performer on my Ford 302 V8 in my Early Bronco. This process will be the same if you have a Mustang or F100 or any other late model Ford with the 302 motor.
    I'm wanting to upgrade to FiTech EFI, but my original intake manifold doesn't fit the FiTech system, so I bought this one:
    amzn.to/2E9XSkM
    For my build I'm not looking for crazy high end power, just a little extra power to have more fun which makes the edlebrock performer a nice upgrade.
    I used the Felpro gaskets to get the best seal from the heads to the manifold.
    amzn.to/2GsZN6a
    And I totally look like a lumberjack working on a classic car in this video.

    Great video. You do a good job going step by step without being too wordy. Some guys draw out their instructions without actually giving any real information. Always cool to see some of the more basic mods. Helps to refresh your memory. One thing I might add: I like to replace a couple of the bolts with studs. It really helps line up the manifold so you don't shift it around on the RTV as you drop it down on the heads. Also, I like to put a very light coat of sealant on the bolts/studs that go through the water passage. It seems to help stop the very small amount of coolant that can weep past over the years and helps stop the threads for seizing.

      @NashvilleEarlyBronco  Před 7 lety +1

      +Dan Mallery Thanks man! YES - both of those are really good call outs. I wish I would have put at least two studs in to help line everything up. And I did put a little RTV on the bolts, just forgot to call it out on the video. Thanks for the feedback!

    i think most people are scared to just try something. like using a new tool. putting on new parts. ive always been handy, but in 2000 i bought 3 broncos to make one. i didnt know alot about cars and trucks then. as i tore apart and put together it was all trial and error. but now i can rip apart anything and almost put anything together. took me almost 3 years to "finish" my bronco. well we all know a bronco is never finished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! your doing a great job!

    I have four 4-inch long studs I put in the corners to align the manifold so it goes down straight. Once the manifold is seated, I put in the other 8 bolts, and then replace the studs with bolts. No muss. No fuss. Also, the two center sets of bolts go into the water jacket ion my heads, so I put RTV around those as well.

    Great video. My intake is leaking coolant from the front and back so I'm guessing the silicone seal is bad. I plan on replacing my manifold with an Edelbrock. I think you used the Edelbrock Performer 289. Is there a reason you didn't use the Performer 302? I didn't know if there was a fitment issue with your carb/FiTech setup.
