Installing a Edelbrock Performer Intake on my 1976 460

  • In this episode of my 1976 Ford F-150 build I install an Edelbrock Performer Intake of the 460. I got this intake for free back in episode 8. I already had the Edelbrock 1405 carburetor, and the throttle lever needed to work on my truck. I decided to go with gaskets without the valley pan, and I cut holes in them to keep the exhaust crossover functional. Edelbrock's instructions (free to download on their website) said to use about 1/4" of RTV. I used closer to 1/2" to make it seal properly. Please hit the like button and subscribe if this video helped you.
    Thanks for watching!
    Joey

If your in Minnesota, you need your intake manifold exhaust cross over system to aid in warming up the engine. If you live in a desert, block it off so you don't get vapor lock from boiling fuel.

Good job. Ford lists the torque spec for 3/8" intake manifold bolts as 25-30 lb ft. The fastener industry standard torque for a 3/8" grade 5 bolt is 31 lb ft. I had a port leak at 25 lb ft until I torqued to 30-31. YMMV

More than one way to get a job done. So good for you. Performance experts usually tell you to block off the exhaust gas port. Alleged to keep AL intake cooler and denser air flow into the block. Edelbrock intake instructions have you coating both sides of the intake gasket and any block off plate you create with gasketcinch gasket sealer and let dry before installing the gaskets.

Nice job ! Note ! The throttle return spring in front goes to the factory bracket you painted black. If you ever want to paint the cylinder head area to manifold , you can use an old intake gasket as a mask . Easy squeezy.

Hey Joey! been two years since my comment. Ordered my Fel-Pro gaskets today so I guess I will start pulling my RPM Performer from the 460. I need some TIG welding done to the water neck area. Striped housing bolt that I repaired with a Stainless insert but I drilled and tapped it crooked and it was leaking. Gonna have the bolt hole filled and I will drill and tap a new hole this time, lol (why did I just use the Thermostat housing as a templet for drilling)??????? Duhhhhhhhhh So, I was not familiar with those gas crossovers. So thanks for the heads up on that young sir. Thanks again for sharing. Cheers from Motown/Dearborn. oh, the built 460 73 block is in my 67 Mustang Gt. It is very fast.
