Fantastic interview and great information! I started using the Heavy Duty system - actually, with a split very similar to Dorian's and I've busted through a terrible plateau I was dealing with. I had known about HIT for a very long time, and I just had always been told it was "bullshit" so I never tried.
Just wondering what your thoughts are on doing HIT along with feeder workouts for a hard to grow body part? So feeder workout like REALLY light weight and maybe hammer curls and skull crushers. 100 reps of each, superset both and one set after another for 3 sets. I've been doing them about a week now along with the usual 5 or 6 days a week. I get a great pump with feeders, but it seems like overkill long term.
@@eddiebear34 Ah the 'ol Rich Piana technique of GH + Insulin overload to then push as much glycogen into the muscle as possible... I am not sure what Jay will say, but I can tell you even from a bodybuilding perspective it is not helpful. Depending on how much gear you're running, you should be able to recover more quickly so you can hit your arms and delts more often if necessary, but just my $0.02 🙂
This is how the interview should be , let the guest speak. Good on you Jay
5 years ago I was going through a really bad time, I wasn't able to see my son and
was going through the family courts. During that time I discovered bodybuilding and in particular those old black and white videos of Dorian training with Leroy. It really helped my mindset and I just got in the zone and watched and read everything about Dorian, including his autobiography. I'll forever associate those difficult months with Dorian and it's come full circle now as I'm seeing my son regularly and we have a good relationship. I plan on getting him in the gym soon and watching this video has really brought a lot of emotions back.
Awesome mate. I'm going through challenging times also, not as har as yours I'm still a kid of 23 but, what else did you find helpful to carry on?
Happy to read your story mate 💪🏼
@@khrsone9653 me personally I found it very helpful to strip back all the complications in my life: I threw unnecessary clothes and possessions out, I cut back on social interactions that weren't benefiting me ie the work group chat, or Facebook etc it took away pressure when I wasn't feeling great and I did really want people seeing me and me having to explain things... I took comfort in walking in nature, taking a sandwich and eating it in the park .. I got into mindfulness and some meditation... May sound weird to some but just 7-10 minutes a day of sitting quietly and breathing really helped. Working out and stretching also helped relax. The main thing was knowing that bad times never last. My dad, who passed away a exactly a year ago, at that time told me "God squeezes you sometimes, but he never chokes you" (rough translation from Spanish), and that stuck with me. I'm 43 and throughout my life the biggest hurts have been through being love sick, nothing hurts like when you really want a girl, but I learned through time to dust myself off and go again... And when you're fed up "don't give up, just rest"... All the best buddy, hope things pick up 👍
Good for you man!!
@@ronmadden4722thank you for sharing your story. Made me feel better about myself
Great interview, Dorian has a quiet charisma, I really enjoy hearing him speak.
What a great dude right. Very intelligent
Yates sounds like a regular bloke, while Mentzer sounds like a elitist but both are sages
Most people fear leaving gains on the table by not training enough, yet they fail to understand they might be leaving gains on the table by doing too much.
Jay this was an outstanding interview. Thank you. Also really impressed you let the guest talk and not interrupt him. I have listened to many of Dorian's interviews and this is one of the best. Great channel too.
I’ve been a HIT freak since the early 90’s. Now at 58 I constantly have people asking me how I train, what I eat, supplements I take etc. they never seem to believe in the one set to failure approach. The “popularity contest” is what we’re up against. Hopefully more & more advocates will be made from this. Let me know if you want a test subject. I’ll hop on a plane in a heartbeat!
It is like a social media popularity contest of sorts. Your right. It's like Android phones vs iPhone. Androids have better hardware and cameras, but people choose iPhones because they are trending more.
It's one set out of 4 sets per exercise.
Holding on to that mic for dear life
Dorian was my Dad’s hero, his signed picture was on the wall in the hallway as soon as you walked through the front door. I have watched every interview he’s done over the years, attended his film premiere in London, met him etc. This was by far the best conversation I have heard someone have with Dorian as it pertains to training. You asked all the questions that I’ve always wanted to ask him myself. Addressed all of the myths and really got into the minutia of his methods and system.
Thank you both for this, loved it. You’ve got a sub and an insta follow 💪
At 61 years old myself, I can honestly say that I would have abandoned training long ago if I thought it required 5 or 6 days in the gym a week for 2 hours a session. My best results have always come from high intensity training. Even now at my age, intensity is key in any progress that I make. I thank Dorian and other proponents of this type of training for getting the information out there. I hope he gets his HIT studios up and running in the US, because I'll be the first one in line!
The best questions for Dorian come from Dorian. He speaks we all listen. No bullshitting here. HIT 2 days on 1 day off, 2-3 exercises (1 working set to failure) / muscle group, max 1 hour/work out. Thanks a lot.
thanks jay for not interrupting him . great interview keep it up 👏
mate, this is one of the most valuable vidoes out there. packed with important information but only 66k views.
HIT is by far the most beneficial method of training both mentally and physically. 35-45 mins of a few extremely intense sets that are just as much of a mental battle than physical.
Great interview Jay, thanks for all the free information
What a time we live in when you can have a legend like Dorian given you gold nugents for free many thanks Dorian I've been 10 years doing the same thing and looking for different results definitely going to try his method
Really enjoyed that interview, thanks Jay.
great interview, well done Jay.
Awesome awesome interview. Thank you for this.
This was brilliant. Thank you!
THE INTENSITY IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN HIT IS INCREDIBLE
Great interview Jay!!!
Great interview!🙌🏻 I really enjoyed it!😀
Very important information, thnx to both!
GREAT INTERVIEW. THANK YOU
I've been using this method for the last 2 or 3 months and I feel like I have less joint pain than before and I definitely look more filled out and stronger. I am loving the mind muscle connection as well. Contracting my muscles as hard as possible with weights made it click for me and I am loving this system.
What’s your program look like?
@@steelphantom9105I have been doing 2 warm up sets of 8 to 12 reps and then a working set (all with the slow cadence) to failure and then forced negatives where my partner will just hoist the weight up for me when I have no positive strength left until I have no negative strength left either. I also start with pro-fatiguing muscles so I start with flies for example, 2 warm up sets and then 1 working set and then I move on to flat bench for 2 warm up sets and then 1 working set to failure and then a set to failure with forced negatives for upper chest and same for lower. Then dips to failure, and tricep extensions to failure.
Then back I do the same, 2 warm up sets and 1 working with forced negatives to failure and I do lat pulldowns, seated rows, and pullovers and I finish by hitting rear delts with bent over lateral raises. I then do preacher curls to failure and then same day I hit shoulders with seated military military presses to failure and side lateral raises. 2 warm ups and 1 set to failure with forced negatives to failure.
For legs I do squats, hack squats, leg extensions, leg curls and calf raises. All with just 1 warm up set and then one set to failure.
The cadence has been fantastic and has helped me gain a mind muscle connection I didn't have before. I hit all body parts 2 times per week.
I use a combination of the Jay Vincent workout and the Dorian Yates blood and guts training and so far so good. I am trying to get a minimum of 200 grams of protein a day and I use creatine.
Great interview thanks to both of you i am also one of a person from india who doing HIT its work good and great and i spend my times to my family to enjoy my life. I did watch your all videos about HIT its very helpful to do my workout with science
Great interview, loved the questions and of course Maestro Dorian is just as he is, no BS fancy training, straight up, honest answers. Love it!
You’re a great interviewer man, found this interview on my recommended and now I’m subscribed. Good work 🫡
Outstanding and inspiring interview... Excellent work...
Great interview Jay, much love.
Just a legend. Simple straight logical minded training. It all comes down to hard work. Thanks Jay for bringing on a legend to solidify your training principles.
So looking forward this !
Dorian yates ABSOLUTE LEGEND 💯
Love Dorian and Mike. My 2 iron heroes.
Great interview with the great man.
Excellent interview. Dorian is such a humble man.
This was great, love Dorian & I've subbed to your channel, thank you. Been slowly implementing HIT into my routines lately & seeing great results :)
Awesome interview!!!
Dorian is a good man. Thanks for bringing him on. Great job! Great interview!
Love Dorian .. my absolute favorite bodybuilder of all time
Watched every podcast of Dorian’s love when new stuff comes out, would have love to see some footage of mike and him.
This interview is excellent. Untangling all the complications!
Thanks Jay for this interview with Dorian.
You asked him some things that needed clarification ...like what was the greatest thing he learned from Metzer and if he was doing high volume in past.
Dorian is the best contributor of body building. Period.
Living legend
Loved the podcast good honest no nonsense content from you both it's just pressed my reset button cheers
Thank you for the podcast guys....this was very Educational.....!!! Respect too the greats... Darian and Mike...🫡👍👍
Opened my eyes on so many different levels. Thank you Dorian. U r legend
Большое спасибо за великолепное интервью с Дорианом! Были заданы очень правильные вопросы. И на каждый из них Дорианом даны подробные ответы. Благодаря этому интервью высокоинтенсивная система тренинга стала ещё более понятной.
Such great questions Jay 👌
Great content Jay!
Great interview Jay, i always thought Dorian 's advice is the most straight to the point no BS advice out there. I always remember he said rest was the most under appreciated aspect of bodybuilding, and if you feel off or under recovered leave it another day or so until you are recovered. Quality over quantity always.
This must be a real pleasure for you to sit down with Dorian.
Great talk.
Brilliant so helpful
love dorian, great insight from him here. would def recommend you invest in a boom arm for your mic or at least stop fidgeting with the mic, would have improved audio quality a lot
This is probably the best Yates interview I've heard. Jay you asked great questions!
I'm 59 and Natty, and after giving my body time to adjust and get stronger, I'm now at the point where I'm in the Gym for 45 minutes and going heavy and hard and I'm responding and progressively building.
I look young for my age, I think my genetics are decent, which helps, but honestly, listening to Dorian and understanding what he says is also helping.
Great interview and the interaction between you both was excellent but also easy to watch.
Really illuminating, encouraging commentary from Yates!
Fantastic information, I was trained by Jay when he had his Studio in Upstate NY. I train now with a 3 day split per week (A,B,A) then next week (B,A,B) Just 5 simple exercises' per session. Literally done in under 15 minutes. Works great for me.
which exercises
@@chip2th A- CHEST PRESS, PULLDOWNS,
OVHD PRESS, SEATED ROWS, TRICEP EXTENSIONS.
B- LEG PRESS, LEG EXTENSIONS, LEG CURLS, SEATED CALF RAISES, BICEP CURLS
Hey bro can you help me. Pls?
@@ahmedmido-pb8fijust listen Jay Vincent advice.
I plateaued for years doing the usual training methods. Last year I changed to HIT and every week I improve - IT WORKS - I am natural and do a push, pull, legs split each week for 1 hour per session. Dudes in the gym don't get it, and every 6 weeks I have a week off. Thanks Dorian!
Very important to note that he wrote all data down. Great interview.
Great video! Big thanks.
“…the magic is the effort…” ~ pure gold
I have nothing but appreciation and huge respect for Dorian for so many years now
Jay great job n this and letting Dorian speak..Fantastic
this should be played in every gym in the world.
amazing interview.
First of all i love Dorian !!! His mind and the way he training. I bean use hit now a year and I regret that I didn’t start in my 20 . Now I’m 46 in November and with the carnivore diet and this program I look fantastic like I never did before . I’m on 250 ml of test every 10 days . Before I took more and I never look and never has strong has I’m now . My training partner his is 22 years old and he make same good progress in a year with this regime that ever before . He is natural . So I think HIT IS BETTER FOR NATURALS AND MAKE MORE SENSE FOR THEM JUST BECAUSE OF THE LOGIC IF IT . Thanks for let as see Dorian so healthy and relax in is life .
26yrs later, still the #1 sensible bodybuilding advocate.
Thank you Dorian !!!
Great interview, it's about damn time the truth is out about training!!! Jay Vincent, Drew Baye and now Dorian Yates back on backing this system!!! Long live Arthur Jones and Mentzer!!! 💪
I've experimented on my self for 25 years I am gifted with genetics . . I've done both types of workouts once you can get you mind wrapped around that less is more it's the perfect way to train more growth will happen with less time in the gym key is negative reps to failure every set and train every third day . . Dorian is the Doctor of muscle training period . . . RIP Mike Mentzer wish I could have met him
very well explained 👍
Fantastic Interview 💯💯👌👌
38 years training and always trained in a hit fashion from reading mike mentzer and Arthur Jones work. Life time drug free. But never see any other ways more effective than mine. No one in any gym I've been to my size drug free has ever looked any better or stronger than me. Yet spend twice as long in the gym. That one fact tells me my approach is right. I do each body part once a week. Back n bicep Mondays. Legs Wednesday, chest, shoulders, tri's Friday. Week end off. I also do cardio 3 days a week which for me is 25 mins jump rope each session. Met Dorian at the very first body power expo, nice fella.
Incredible value on this content 💪
Hey bro can you give a programm like that
Absolutely brilliant Jay 👏
Dorian is the man. I grew up in the 80s admiring Arnold, but by the 90s Dorian had become my favorite bodybuilder. I still remember those infamous black-and-white photos in Flex magazine when he was at his peak. He was the first guy I can remember that pushed the limits of the human physique, before the bloated modern look.
At 38:10, Dorian is talking about those computerised machines, a company called Ronfic makes them, too. I've used them and they're incredible. They do everything from time your rep cadence, to time your set, measure your force with each limb on every rep, measure progress. You can change the velocity of the positive or negative. For example I set my overhead press for 85 kgs in the positive and set it at 100kgs on the negative. The machine imparts the pressure a bit like a spotter pushing down on the bar.
Every serious gym needs this technology
lee priest has the opposite message when it comes to volume, but he also said he never failed a set to the point of having to drop the weight, there is many roads to rome
Alright, props man. Props to you. Respect the hustle.
What I find interesting is people that question or have doubts about Hit training think that they are smarter than thier body just won't try it. Our muscles do a certain amount of processing or thinking for them selves so we don't have to. Like every thing else we do we have to figure out some of it our selves to help our muscles to achieve the easiest way to accomplish our goal. Some people talk to thier muscles but they never ask them what they need to get the job done. You can't dictate them into something they are not. Muscles have memory ; they might be smarter than you.
Wow amazing guest!
great interview, ty
little note tho, every time you move your mic around your making noise that interrupts the speaker
I love this interview I been doing Mike mentzers system for 4 months and went from 198-228 and I really love the gym more now and got more results then I ever thought possible going less my wife even loves it and lost over 10 pounds in 4 weeks
Update? Still training this way?
Great wisdom from Yates
Awesome interview! Interesting that Dorian explained his injuries, and makes total sense in the context of the competition in relation to the high intensity before it. One thing is not talked about is the rep speed, and imo and what i will do, is a normal controlled rep, maintaing the zone where tension is applied.
That’s for watching
He did mention rep cadence as 3sec neg and 2sec positive
This was Gold
I am returning to weight training on a 4 day split since the flu began , and I don't think I will be able to begin the 6th day due to soreness. I'm definitely taking time off until that's gone. The pump and progress from my first week is unbelievable. Old pic from during the flu about year off there. Atrophy settled for sure. I need a hands-free camera setup for an updated profile picture.
Excellent
I enjoyed this interview more than the one with Joe Rogan ! Great Job !!
In this age of podcast and online training, I just wonder what could happen if Mike were with us. I really miss him during such intelligent conversations 😔
I would love that Jay Will give his ideas to The studies that Dorian is doing.
I’m training every 7-10 days. My delts all 3 heads require more rest vs biceps. Quads even longer. Chest 2 weeks. Back 10 days.
If HIT is.....why people don't use it well most people don't face it because it's F**CKING HARD
A brilliant interview from the best 2 people in the fitness industry. Thanks Jay & Dorian for doing this🙂👍
Im in!
Dorian talks so much sense 💪
Terrific interview Jay!
Are you aware of Dorian’s view on isometrics?
Very great interview Jay! As a fan of HIT it is nice to see the truth is growing. If you want to train 6 days a week and not go to failure and be a gym rat and do 50 sets go for it. But Mentzer said it best you can train long or you can train hard but not both. Intensity and HIT is the proof. And naysayers can NOT train with the intensity that is needed for growth stimulation. Keep on HITbearers
Awesome!
Just found your channel and Im so glad. What would a good beginner template of H.I.T for a 46 year old former athlete.
AST’s Max-OT program preaches this type of training as well.
22:05 funny how you drink water when Dorian Yates talks about dehydration xD
Maybe subconsciously reminded me I was thirsty lol
