"Honestly, either treatment stops working, or pain management is the worst, because you just feel like you're in a cycle, and it's never going to get better, and you can't control it." Ok, now I'm a blubbering mess. I've never heard a more accurate explanation of what it's like to live as a disabled and chronically ill person. Lucy, you just have a way with words. Thank you so much for sharing your insight, it makes me feel less alone. ❤️

This episode made me cry, its so hard when you feel like you have lost independence due to disability and you discussed it beautifully ❤

She's so hard on herself and has fallen into a dark headspace. There's no need to hate accepting care from your loved ones. It's a wonderful thing to have support. It takes some time, but we all must slowly replace every "I'm sorry that I needed help" to a "Thank you I appreciate you lending a hand". Needing support during this difficult transition is not anything to be sorry for or to isolate yourself over. At only 25 years old, it is so early in life and there is a lot of time to find your way in the world together.

I think you said it perfectly, it’s the lack of respect related to an access issue that is I think the most difficult and frustrating part. Of course it’s also really frustrated when people don’t seem to know the law or the correct way to interpret/apply it, but even that I could be more lenient about if it’s an area someone doesn’t come across often, but it’s when someone is being rude or hostile for no reason to me/the person with a disability who actually knows the particulars of whatever lol we’re talking about

In the uk, guide dogs are allowed everywhere apart form ICU and surgery ward. I think. There might be laws in place but alot of places do not follow them. Which can be horrible and make u not want to go out in society. Its 2024 not 1824 where disabled people were not seen in public. People need to have more respect and understanding in the disabled world. As this world isn't made for disabled people. This annoys and hurts me as I'm partly sighted and most people when I go out are really rude to me or not respecting my personal space whilst doing everyday tasks.

Its so funny watching Ollie’s confidence in front of the camera grow and grow each week. And what are those voices? :)
Disabled bathrooms are actually so gross. And trying to figure out if they’re clean or not and having to wave the hands about to try and figure out where everything is while knowing full well that any moment, something might not be clean is so disgusting. The conversation on accepting help, and understanding that this is our own form of being independent is so so real. Its something I’ve struggled with forever, especially as college began in earnest and the simple things like navigation became extra challenging. But this is why its important to have you two sharing stuff like this. We wouldn’t have had conversations like this on the internet to help people feel so seen even five years ago. You’re slaying!

Fan of the podcast here. Genuinely curious, what happens if you were to be on a flight with Molly and someone has a dog allergy? Has this ever happened to any guide dog users? Or, is Molly bred to be hypo-allergenic?

As an American.... Thank you for the sympathy. It's rough out here especially for us disabled and low income folks. Unless I was able to move to a country with universal healthcare, there's no way I could even consider not being on disability one day. I only have the quality of life I do because on disabiliy, medicare and medicaid keep my medication costs under control and thus, keep things from being unbearable. That being said, I dread the cost of living adjust slowly pushing me out of qualifying for public assistance that keeps me from going into medical debt and covering my needs and affording things that make life enjoyable. America hasn't adjusted the poverty line in over 20 years to my knowledge and NPR just last week said that most Americans cannot afford rent. I'm well below the annual income of $30k they focused on in the piece and a lot of my friends working and disabled (and unable to work) are in that boat with me.
